Chapter 1: What Is Magic?

Magic is affecting the state of mind of yourself and others with willpower, thereby causing a change in the physical environment.

Candle magic is one of the oldest, easiest, and most widely practiced forms of magic, and is available to all to do. Candle magic is commonly considered to be either sympathetic magic (what you do to the candle happens in life) or petition magic (asking a deity to do something for you). In its most basic form, you require only one candle with no fancy rituals. In fact, one of the easiest and most versatile candle spells is to write your desire on a piece of paper. Read your wish out aloud three times, fold the paper up twice, and then place it under a tea light candle. Light the candle while thinking about your wish. When the candle has burned out, dispose of the paper or burn it for added power.

Many people do candle magic without even knowing it. Ever made a wish on your birthday and blew out a candle? That is candle magic where you either imagined what you wanted or asked a deity (normally your GOD), to grant you your wish.

So How Does Candle Magic Work Then?

A candle is a way to send energy and messages into the universe. You program the candle with your intention (either what you want or a petition to a deity), then charge the candle with power. When you burn the candle, the power you added to it, with the power of the candle and any herbs or oils you use, are released into the universe. That energy is used to change the universe so that your reality changes to your desires. The bigger the candle is, the more energy it has, and the stronger the spell potentially may be, as well as the longer your intention or petition is send into the universe.

Although there are hundreds of thousands of candle spells in the world, from all kinds of beliefs, they essentially fall into one of two groups.

Your Magic

In the first group, you send the energy to accomplish the spell. The efforts you put into the spell mainly determine if the spell is successful. You may add herbs, oils, and incense to add to your energy. But the success of the spell mainly rests on you. Here, focus, belief, intent, and imagination are key. You may ask a deity or god to help. However. Since you are doing the spell and sending your energy, the spell may succeed even if the deity chooses not to help you, if your energy is strong enough.

Pros:

Over time, you get stronger and your spells have a higher success rate. You do not need to ask a deity or god for help where you then owe them a favor or need to make an offering. You may become so efficient with your thoughts and energy that you no longer need candles to do spells. This will make you flexible in spell casting and save you a lot of money.

Cons:

It takes a lot of focus and a clear mind, as well as a lot of willpower to do a spell on your own. If you face someone who opposes you that uses powerful deities, you may lose badly. It may take years of dedication and practice to reach a level where you have a high success rate with spells. Doing powerful spells or several spells in a short time can drain your energy, leaving you weak or possibly causing you to fall ill.

A Petition Spell

With a petition spell, you are not doing any part of the spell yourself. The candle spell you do is asking a favor of a particular deity, ancestor, god, or even the universe, to go and do the task you ask of them. You may do it nicely by giving an offering and petitioning to their goodwill, or you may invoke an entity and force it to do your bidding. With this spell, it does not matter how much magical power you have. What matters is if your petition is accepted or your control over the entity worked, and if the entity has the power and the will to do what you asked for.

Pros:

You need no magical power to get powerful results. Spells to invoke powerful entities to do your bidding had been passed down through centuries and are easily available. Doing a powerful spell does not drain you. This type of spell casting is a favorite amongst professional practitioners who may do several spells in a day.

Cons:

If asking a deity for a favor, you usually owe something to them, even if only an offering. There is no guarantee that the deity will accept your offer or even that they will perform the asked tasks correctly. They may put their own twist to it, especially if your wording is not clear. Your deity may try to do the task, but your opposition may be using a stronger deity than yours, forcing you to abandon your request, or petition a yet stronger deity that may demand higher sacrifices for its services. If invoking a spirit, the controlling and commanding spell may fail, possibly causing the spirit to turn on you. An opposition may take control over the spirit you tasked, and turn it on to you.

Interestingly. The majority of people, especially those that say they know nothing about magic nor practice it, practice this kind of spell. Going to church and asking GOD to help you get the new job is a petition for a favor. So is wishing on a shooting star. Invoking spirits (especially if you allow them to possess your body) is the most dangerous spells there are. Depending upon the spirit that you invoke, they are also potentially the most powerful.

Chapter 2: Why Practice Candle Magic?

Do you really need a candle to practice magic? No. Magic is essentially all about intention and willpower that are directed or focused on a goal through imagination. Candles, herbs, oils, rituals, chanting and all that, are there to help you with your goal. Almost like training wheels on a bicycle. In honesty, the oldest of magic uses nothing but thought, and although almost forgotten by many today, is still some of the strongest magic around.

However. To make something happen by thought alone takes a lot of willpower, concentration, and belief in yourself. This is one reason why many practitioners turn to some form of ritual magic as they believe in doing spells that others have ‘proved’ to work. This may be okay for a start. However. You can forget that you actually need nothing but thought, and focus. You can end up with the belief that if a spell was not done exactly to
