Reviews for Egyptian Gods
4 ratings1 review
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5There are far too many discrepancies in this work. Much of the basic information regarding the gods is incorrect. With no sources to back up the data presented, it sounds like the author is, at times, embellishing long-accepted mythological interpretations with their own ideas. I do not recommend this title, especially to younger audiences who may be tempted to use it for a study aid or report material.

Between 1870 and 1930 the study of Ancient Egypt roared to the forefront of cultural archeology and has stayed there ever since. The first researchers into the people and places of Ancient Egypt had a wealth of information to study with the religion, the gods, and the practices of the region and period.
Religion played an enormous role in the development of Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptian culture worshiped a myriad of gods arrayed in a pantheon. As polytheists, the ancient Egyptians identified different gods with various aspects of human existence, like life and death, childbirth and fertility. There were gods of the forces of nature, as well as more abstract gods for less concrete concepts, like wisdom.
A pharaoh or a king functioned as the center of Egyptian religion, as both the king of Egypt and as the connection between the people and their gods. Egyptian culture focused on the pharaoh. Each Egyptian king, or pharaoh, was
