Deeper Dimensions of Power - Idemudia Guobadia
Chapter One
Connecting to the Source of All Power
The Prayer of Faith
It is with the prayer of faith that we begin to connect to God. Faith moves mountains. Prayers move God. Mountains are on earth. God is in heaven. If you can get heaven’s attention, mountains will obey your commands. Elijah got the God of Heaven’s attention and he prayed that there be no rain for three years and it was so.
Elijah was connected to the Source of all power and his effectual and fervent prayers availed much. Elijah’ prayers moved God. The effect of Elijah’s earthly ministry was a reflection of his heavenly ministry. When God moves in heaven on your behalf, mountains will shift on earth in your favor. Until we come to God in faith, God is not pleased with us. Hebrews 11:6 says that:
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
It is with faith that God’s power is put in motion.
Connecting to the source of all power has always been a journey of faith from time immemorial. Without faith it is impossible to please God and God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). Paul expressed his frustration with the church in Galatia because rather than continue in faith, they turned to observing the law as the basis for their justification (Galatians 1:6; Galatians 3:1-5).
Faith is a key component of our connection to Christ. Without faith, we cannot operate in the realm of the spirit where true power resides. The core of faith is believing: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mark 11:24). Mark 16:17-18 connects believing to power. Mark 16:17-18 mentions signs which follow the believer. These signs are manifestations of power. It takes power to cast out devils (Luke 10:19), to drink deadly poison and not be hurt or to lay hands on the sick that they may recover.
Ultimate power belongs to God. Cosmetic Christianity or social Christianity has no real power. It is just a form of godliness that denies the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5). Being a member of a church or ministry does not connect one to the source of all power. Violent faith is required to remain plugged into the source of power. Faith is a key determinant that enables the power of God to flow into one’s life.
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father (John 14:12). It is faith in Christ that gives us the ability, the power, to do the works of Christ.
…the just shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4).
Power Is What Moves Things
It takes power to move a mountain. Faith is what gives ability to Power in the spiritual realm. For example, a lesser power will be hindered from moving a mountain if a greater power stands in resistance.
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.
The words once more
indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain (Hebrews 12:26-17).
In the realms of power, there are things that can be shaken and things that cannot be shaken. Spiritual power that has its foundation in things that can be shaken is limited from its very roots: a shaky foundation. To walk in unquestionable power, the source and foundation of the power must be one that cannot be shaken by external and internal factors and events.
The source of all power is God. God cannot be shaken. God is omnipotent. God is sovereign. No plan of His can be thwarted (Job 42:2). God is in heaven and He does whatever pleases Him (Psalm 135:6). God’s power and authority are unquestionable. He is the Source and all other powers, for and against, are derived from Him. There are different sources of power but the ultimate source is God.
When one is truly connected to the ultimate source of power (God), God will use that one in deeper dimensions and realms to establish His purpose on earth. God cannot be shaken but He can be moved by those that are rightly connected to Him.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth’ (Matthew 28:18, KJV).
All power belongs to Jesus; yet, not all powers are used to glorify Jesus. God’s power is seen through his various works and acts in display. God’s power is derived from his authority. Authority is the right to exercise power. We must be submitted to God’s authority in order to exercise any form of power He has given to us.
This is where Lucifer transformed to Satan. He rejected the authority of God and still sought to exercise the power he received from God. Rejecting God’s authority and refusing to submit to it is as good as rejecting God and being in rebellion against God.
Satan was created by God and given enormous responsibilities and powers but he chose to convert the powers he was given for evil purposes. The downfall of Satan clearly demonstrates that God given powers can be used for ungodly purposes. Satan is the father of rebellion.
All power that is contrary to the will of God is traceable to Satan. There are times when it has seemed that satanic powers have been used for godly purposes. Nonetheless, this is deception because the source is ungodly and ultimately furthers and ungodly purpose. Satan, the father of rebellion is also the author of all deception and lies. Satan himself, can appear as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), speaking the language of light and yet to the undiscerning, furthering a satanic agenda.
Determining the Source of Power
The source of power is often more evident in its fruit than in its works. Satan can duplicate the gifts of the Spirit but he is at a loss to duplicate the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit are so contrary to his nature and very being that he is unable to duplicate them. It is through the fruit of the Spirit that you will know the power source that one is connected to.
Jesus Christ is the word of God (John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:13). It is the word of God that makes God known to man. It is the word of God that defines authoritatively the source of power. The word of God in Ephesians 6:17 is called the sword of the Spirit.
The Spirit uses the word as a sword. A sword is an instrument of power. This instrument of power has an effect. The effect is the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). The fruit of the Spirit signifies the visible evidence of Christ’s work in believers. In fact, many will do the works of the Spirit but yet the source of their power will not be from God.
21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in y our name perform many miracles?’
23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7: 21-23).
In the Scripture referenced above, many did great works in the name of Christ and yet Christ called them evildoers. This is either because they used godly powers without being connected to God or used ungodly powers as a means to purportedly be doing the work of God. This is exactly what Satan is guilty of.
The Bible makes us to understand that Satan, once known as Lucifer, was created by God in perfection and beauty. Lucifer became prideful and plotted in his heart to use his God-given powers to become more powerful than God. It was this rebellion and arrogance of Lucifer that turned him into Satan, the adversary.
11 The word of the Lord came to me:
12 Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ’This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings (Ezekiel 28:11-17).
In Ezekiel 28, Satan is being given the description of a personality, the king of Tyre. This king of Tyre had the same spiritual character and attributes of his spiritual father, Satan. Satan violated God’s holiness. In spite of Satan’s rebellious ambitions, God’s throne was never in danger. God being omnipotent was never threatened by Satan. Whatever power Satan has, God gave to him on the day he was created by God.
Spiritual warfare began in heaven (Revelation 12:7-11) and not on earth. Spiritual warfare began when a created being decided in rebellion, to use the powers he was given at creation to further his own personal ambitions and desires instead of using them for the divine purpose that his Creator intended them for. Satan was cast out of heaven to the earth and still possesses his God-given powers which he now wholeheartedly employs in furtherance of his evil agenda. Again in the Old Testament we see another account of Satan’s fall:
12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."
15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit (Isaiah 14:12-15).
Satan’s rebellion and fall marked the beginning of a separation of purposes of all power that flows from God. When God created man, He also gave man powers to subdue and dominate his environment (Genesis 1:26-28). Man yielded that power to Satan (Genesis 3). From
