About this ebook
In “RAINBOWS COME FROM A THREATENING SKY” the reader is held by ideas and pictures which are used to develop several themes simultaneously, a sense of colour, sound and physical surroundings, and she succeeds splendidly in this form of point-counterpoint.
In “LES PAPILLONS” personal feelings and experiences are juxtaposed with powerful images and motifs, prompting the reader toward evocative resonances in an unself-conscious way.

This book is
dedicated to my mother Mary Roberts and godmother Sue Ford for their inspiration and encouragement.
Hope Paris Mendelssohn was born in Tauranga, New Zealand in 1963. With the arts prevalent in the family Hope soon became a rising star in the performing and literary arts. As a composer and writer her music and poetry are performed, broadcast recorded and published internationally, having a place in many educational institutions in N.Z. And America. Many of her works have been performed in prestigious competitions often gaining first prize, as they have in composition competitions.
Music and poetry are interlinked for Hope and you will find her style rather lyrical, easy to reflect upon and generally inspiring. Music is my life and poetry my soul.

Les Papillons
He spoke to me of his volcanic heart
And the butterflies which set his soul free,
An angel heralded his passing
And spoke to me of contradiction,
For our hearts bleed as a volcano bleeds
And the butterflies are those found
In our grandparents’ garden.
So why is it that my friends call me Papillon,
And I should write music of volcanoes and eruptions?
It has been said that my music exudes
Only the beauty not the pain,
Yet still, the angel speaks to me of contradiction.
For it is in life that we experience both
Although we ask in what proportion?
That he should choose to end his life
And we should have such a reaction!
For who is it that suffers most, we ask—
Or is that the contradiction!
