Born in the Bronx, CAROLYN LUGER VERMES holds a B.A. degree from New York University and an M.A. degree from Yeshiva University. Before becoming a mother, she spent several years teaching mathematics and studying voice. While her boys were growing up, she used her spare time writing poems and songs, which later found their way into two books: Poetry in Motion and “Moshiach!”--Music To My Ears. In her post-child-rearing period, she became employed as the “Shade Lady” of Capitol Lighting in their East Hanover, New Jersey showroom,where she remained for twenty-five years before moving out of New Jersey.     FOREWORD

    In this book Carolyn Vermes has developed certain parallels between Chassidic teachings and the beauty of poetry. Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch, known as the Tzemach Tzedek, once approached his grandfather, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of Chabad Chassidism, with the question: What does Chassidus (Chassidic teachings) seek to ultimately accomplish? He answered: to alter one’s natural characteristics. Accordingly, one important goal in life is to effectuate change for the better in the realm of feelings, love and awe of G-d, love of the Torah, and love of fellow Jews and man.
