    Chapter 1

    Battlefield of the Mind

The battle against Satan is in the mind. It is there, in the faculty of consciousness and thought, that he places strongholds and evil imaginations to defeat us. He creates doubt, fear, feelings of unworthiness, confusion and brings those of us who are not cognizant of his strategies into captivity. Hence, the apostle Paul urges believers to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God as a spiritual act of worship. He also admonishes us to renew our minds, which leads to the transformation of our lives. The renewal of our minds gives us better perspectives on life and changes our attitudes toward God, those around us, our circumstances, and ourselves. In the process, we discover God’s pleasing and perfect will.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2).

Paul implores us to be made new in the attitude of our minds. He encourages us to put on the new man created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. That is to say, we must all put off falsehood and speak truthfully to everyone, for we are all members of one body.

At times, evil spirits will taunt your mind. They will subtly try to dissuade you from doing what you know you should. You will find yourself saying, I am not reading the Bible today. I am not praying today. Maybe tomorrow. I am not going to church this Sunday. I am sick. Do not let these thoughts hold you down. Recognize them as the enemy’s tactics to set up strongholds in your life. Do not entertain them; rather, you must pull them down.

Cast down every spirit that comes to your mind speaking evil, creating arguments, and promoting high things that exalt themselves above the knowledge of God. Bring every thought into captivity to obey Christ. Meditate day and night on God’s Word if you want to know what is written in it and if you want to prosper.

    Tormenting Spirit

I had an encounter some time ago with a little girl who was about 16 or 17 years old. She was possessed with demons, and her parents called me to come to their house to pray for her. The devil had taken over her mind and was telling her to run away. He tormented her so much she even attempted to hang herself with a belt. This little girl did not say a word, but Satan was talking through her telling me he was Lucifer.

Behold I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the devil and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).

We started to pray, and the devil tried to turn her head around to break her neck. She cried out loudly for about 30 minutes. I lay my hands on her and rebuked the devil. I commanded him to come out of her. Immediately, the demons came out and up to this day, she is still free from those spirits.

A certain centurion’s servant who was dear to him got sick and was ready to die. Having heard about Jesus’ power and authority, he sent elders of the
