i. introduction
Everyone is unique, yet we all go through the same life experiences. We face our own heavens and hells, angels and demons; we meet with success and suffer failure; we experience happiness and sadness, joy and pain, health and sickness, make sacrifices and enjoy gifts in our time.
And we all have one great power to deal with all that life presents.
My name is Jon Moore. I’m a friend, a son, a brother, and a person. I’m from Gulfport, Florida. I was a division 1-AA student-athlete who graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree. I have coached football and wrestling from high school to college, and worked with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Community Relations. I am currently with the U.S. Navy as a Naval Officer.
I am 25 years old, and although others may see me as very young, I have experienced a great deal in my life thus far, including almost losing my father, overcoming a torn ACL from college football, and losing over 100 pounds.
I have dealt with failures that resulted from my own decisions, lack of preparation and simply not controlling myself. I’ve experienced physical pain from destroying my body, mental pain from my own thought patterns, and arrived at points in my life when I could not even recognize myself in the mirror.
Yet thanks to invaluable lessons and wisdom shared by my family, friends, mentors, and my life experiences thus far, I have learned how take control of my life, to see problems as possibilities, and to do whatever it takes to accomplish what I deem worthwhile. Most importantly, I have learned about the power of my thoughts—the greatest power we all have.
I wrote this book to help anyone who wants to change their life or improve aspects of it. And it all begins with changing your mindset and doing battle with your old ways of thinking.
This book offers suggestions, techniques, lessons and habits on how to change your thinking patterns and develop yourself. It is interactive; exercises, will guide you to think deeply about how you approach life and face challenges; how to work with what you have; how to develop new skills; how to set yourself up for fulfilling goals and desires; and how to create your own unique version of happiness and success.
Change is not easy, and the process will push you to your limits, make you uncomfortable and question your new path several times, but in the end, it will be worth it.
With a new mindset and mental acuity, combined with passion, focus and hard work, you can achieve anything. And when you change in positive ways, you positively affect everything and everyone with what you do in this world.
So with that in mind, let’s get started.
II. Preface
Self-Assessment
Before we begin I want you to get a blank note card and write this message on it: IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU, AND ENDS WITH YOU, YOU’RE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE!
From when you wake up, to right before you go to sleep I want you to read this message and I want you to go to a quiet place for 10 minutes and think, What will I do today with my time?" Repeat this every day with focus and concentration: What will I do with my life to make it better?
Before you read further, assess where you are at right now in your life. You must ask and answer some questions to figure out what you want to do, which in turn becomes a self-assessment.
Self-assessment is needed daily, weekly, monthly, to ensure that the decisions you make and actions you take are right for you and will prove beneficial, rather than negative, for you.
Take 30 minutes to one hour to think deeply about the following questions and then write down your answers.
Questions
Who are you? Describe yourself.
Who do you want to be? What do you want to achieve in your life?
Why do you want this?
How are you going to accomplish these things?
Why do you want to read this book?
