About this ebook
Remy Phosphor’s unique family runs a paranormal carnival meant to titillate and entertain. Little do the normal mortals who attend know the truth, that the supernatural is right in front of them, siphoning off the energy of their emotions in a symbiotic relationship that, in turn, protects them from encroaching demons bent on the destruction of our world. Only rare paranormals like Remy can travel in between time and space, to heal the rift pathways demons make to try to reach their prey. But when a strange intruder invades the carnival, Remy and her faithful hare, Thisbe, realize there is much more to the centuries-long battle with the demons than either of them were ever taught, and, worse yet, those truths hit a bit too close to home... enjoy this origin story for the brand-new paranormal series, The Carnelevarium!
Patti Larsen
About me, huh? Well, my official bio reads like this: Patti Larsen is a multiple award-winning author with a passion for the voices in her head. But that sounds so freaking formal, doesn’t it? I’m a storyteller who hears character's demands so loudly I have to write them down. I love the idea of sports even though sports hate me. I’ve dabbled in everything from improv theater to film making and writing TV shows, singing in an all girl band to running my own hair salon. But always, always, writing books calls me home.I’ve had my sights set on world literary domination for a while now. Which means getting my books out there, to you, my darling readers. It’s the coolest thing ever, this job of mine, being able to tell stories I love, only to see them all shiny and happy in your hands... thank you for reading. As for the rest of it, I’m short (permanent), slightly round (changeable) and blonde (for ever and ever). I love to talk one on one about the deepest topics and can’t seem to stop seeing the big picture. I happily live on Prince Edward Island, Canada, home to Anne of Green Gables and the most beautiful red beaches in the world, with my pug overlord and overlady, six lazy cats and Gypsy Vanner gelding, Fynn.

Chapter One
Black tulle caught on the edges of my fishnet stockings, my heavy boots thudding on the hard-packed ground, light ahead warning I was near my destination but not close enough.
Not in time.
We’re late, Remy.
Like I needed Thisbe to tell me that at the moment. I didn’t bother responding to the long-legged hare loping at my side, neither about the fact she was right nor that she could easily have outrun me and made it with seconds to spare, her long, lean body covering ground in low, measured bounds. Sigrid—
That I did respond to. Aunt Sigrid will understand.
Why was I lying to myself? The glowing lights outside the big (well, not so big, kind of smallish, actually, if you want to quibble details) top finally washed over my costume, one gloved hand rising to make sure my black velvet top hat hadn’t dislodged from my tightly pinned black hair, with no time to check my makeup or if I had forest remnants hanging from the bouncing ebony skirt and cropped velvet jacket I wore. I’d just have to live with it, because while I might have a good reason for being late to the opening of the evening’s performance, Aunt Sigrid didn’t care for excuses, even ones that might mean the safety of the family.
Finally.
Thisbe slowed to a steady hop as we quickly circled the outside of the jet canvas tent, out of the glaring lights in the front where the audience had entered a short time ago, to the back and the welcome dark that would hide what I was about to do.
The only time really that dark was good for anything in my world.
We both heard it, the sound of my aunt’s booming voice over the PA system, announcing the opening of the show. Whoops. My hare companion stopped and stood up on her hind paws, tall, narrow ears twitching with the dark tips tilted toward me, wide, flat nose doing the dance of her anxiety as her eyes glistened, pits of shine in the gloom. You’re not planning on going in between.
I almost laughed at her old woman chastisement and appalled realization, though she was barely two years old going on granny. You want to be late or on time?
She exhaled heavily, shaking her head, whiskers twitching when she cupped her front paws to her chest in a protective gesture
