    PRAYER TEXTS

Any text dealing with religion, God, Jesus etc. may be considered a prayer. So, a prayer is any word or phrase or text you say, with God in mind. This does not have to contain an address like Oh Lord. A prayer is said in a personal or in a public situation.

One may pray alone or with others.

One who prays has a talk with God.

One may pray on many occasions and with many intentions.

A prayer can be a form of meditation.

    A prayer can move people.

    Prayers help.

With the following reservoir of prayers,

one is able to say a different prayer each day of the year.

Though members of other religions also pray, the focus in this book is on Christian prayers.

In the common Bible of the Abrahamic religions, various forms of prayer appear; the most common forms being petition, thanksgiving, and worship.

The longest book in the Bible is the Book of Psalms. It contains a collection of 150 religious songs which are often regarded as prayers.

Other well-known prayers from the Bible include the Song of Moses (Exodus 15:1–18), the Song of Hannah (1 Samuel 2:1–10), and the Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55).

The most recognized, popular and prominent prayers in the Christian Bible are the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13; Luke 11:2–4) and Hail Mary (Luke 1:28; Luke 1:42).

You may conclude each and every prayer with the word Amen, which is a very strong old Hebrew formula of making a statement valid.

    TRADITIONAL

The Apostles Creed – The Credo

    I believe in God,

    the Father Almighty,

    Creator of Heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

    born of the Virgin Mary,

    suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

    He descended to the dead.

On the third day, He rose again.

He ascended to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the Holy Catholic Church,

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins,

    the resurrection of the body,

    and life everlasting. Amen.

    Our Father

Our Father who art in heaven,

    hallowed by Thy name.

    Thy kingdom come.

    Thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

    And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

    but deliver us from evil.

    For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.

    Amen.

    To Mother Mary

    Hail Mary

    Hail Mary, full of grace,

    the Lord is with thee;

    blessed art thou amongst women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

    Holy Mary, Mother of God,

    pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

    Amen.

    Ave Maria

    Avé María, grátia pléna,

    Dóminus técum.

    Benedícta tu in muliéribus,

et benedíctus frúctus véntris túi, Iésus.

    Sáncta María, Máter Déi,

    óra pro nóbis peccatóribus,

nunc et in hóra mórtis nóstrae

    Amen.
