    History of The Crowdfunding Industry

    In time past, having a great business idea was not always sufficient to guarantee funding. Entrepreneurs needed wealthy family members and friends or connections with angel investors and venture capitalist. Many great products and ideas never made it pass the back of the napkin because of the inability of getting through the front door of those holding the large purses. However, some entrepreneurs found innovative ways to overcome this issue such as using the long tail concept (e.g. it is better to find 10,000 people who are willing to give $100 than one hard to reach investor who will give $500,000).

    The concept of crowdfunding has been around for a long time. One of the first known usage of online crowdfunding "occurred in 1997, when a British rock band funded their reunion tour through online donations from fans. Inspired by this innovative
