About this ebook

As athletes continue to frequently use performance-enhancing substances, searching for ways to avoid detection of their use, the appropriate question to ask is, why? Is this willingness to use such drugs due to lack of awareness of the side effects, disbelief, or the desire to perform at a higher level and acceptance of the consequences? Christmas Rendezvous follows a doctoral candidate writing her thesis seeking to answer this question with female athletes using steroids but her research becomes too personal.

Richard Greye

Richard Greye has developed a love for literature, history, and athletics. Richard and his wife Jayne Greye know first-hand how a passion for muscle can build more excitement in the bedroom. Only when Richard found the courage to tell her about his passion did this translate into an open relationship. Richard has published a dozen books surrounding the theme of female muscle growth and co-authored several with his wife. Recently the Greyes completed a non-fiction research driven book on women who lift and their admirers entitled, Iron Beauties. The Greyes enjoy lifting together, playing sports, and hiking. Author’s Note

As the work for Sinews of History waned and my personal plans for the holidays fell through, several concepts for stories surrounding muscular women and Christmas occurred to me. With time short to complete the works before Christmas, I set aside virtually everything in order to produce these three novellas. Each of the stories stands alone but centers on the theme of women building muscle with the culmination of their dreams surrounding the holiday. They are available for purchase individually or together as a combined archive.

Despite furiously writing with few interruptions, the project would have remained impossible without the help of Jak Cratocles. Since we worked on Stealing Muscle and Virtual Reality Muscle together, he has helped me brainstorm ideas, clean up grammar, and his art has greatly complimented my stories. He gave his time freely despite working on his own upcoming novel, Awake! , which should be out later this spring.

Integral to this work as well was Fonk’s help with both wording and helping improve the description of the muscular women. Of course, I’d be remiss for not mentioning my wife who despite being swamped with work flagged a few errors and wrote the diary scenes in Christmas Rendezvous to give them a more feminine feel. Finally, I have to give a shout out to Qbikk for his support and GrandMasterLucilious for his excellent morph of the cover photo of Muscle for Christmas.

Anabolic steroids occur naturally in men and women alike but are more prevalent in men. Steroids have been at the forefront of the controversy surrounding the unfairness of  performance-enhancing drugs and their potential health effects. For nearly seventy years, athletes have taken steroids to try to improve their performance. Only recently, however, have all of the major sports governing bodies in North America agreed to ban from competition and punish athletes who take PEDs. What is the cause of this recent wave of bans? It seems that limitations by governments and sports agencies arise from scares by the medical community which has listed a number of severe health issues attributed to anabolic steroid use. They list mental conditions such as paranoid (extreme, unreasonable) jealousy, extreme irritability, roid rage, delusions, impaired judgment, and mania. Physical effects regardless of gender range from kidney problems or failure, liver damage and tumors, enlarged heart, high blood pressure, and changes in blood cholesterol - all of which increase the risk of stroke and heart attack, even in young people - and increased risk of blood clots. In men, they can lead to shrinking testicles, decreased sperm count, baldness, development of fatty tissue in the pectorals, and an increased risk for prostate cancer. In women, the effects range from the growth of body hair, decreased breast size, male-pattern baldness, temporary changes in, or outright halting of, the menstrual cycle, enlarged clitoris, and deepened voice. While both men and women take steroids, society seems to frown more sternly on women due to societal expectations of physical stature. (for more information on this aspect read Iron Beauties: Exploring the psycho-social aspects surrounding muscular women and the men who celebrate them.

Athletes continue to frequently use these substances, searching for ways to avoid detection of their use. Is this willingness to entertain such drugs due to lack of awareness of the side effects, disbelief, or the desire to perform at a higher level and acceptance of the consequences? Recent studies have suggested that while the abuse of anabolic steroids can be devastating, the medical risks associated with them may have been slightly exaggerated - potentially to dissuade use in athletes. (see: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3827559/ ) Clearly, steroids have a number of side effects, but how significant and are they worse for women? Christmas Rendezvous explores a doctoral student who tries to uncover these mysteries.
