Why Must We Forgive?
()
About this ebook
Jesus taught believers to pray, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matt. 6:12). Paul urged Christ’s followers to forgive one another as Christ forgave them (Col. 3:13). Christ gives Christians a mandate to forgive and provides a model of forgiveness that is necessary for healthy relationships. But what is forgiveness, and how should we practice it?
In How Should We Forgive?, Pastor Stanley Gale considers the nature of the forgiveness we receive from God, its role in our ongoing relationship with Him, and the way we must reciprocate by forgiving others as we have been forgiven.

CULTIVATING BIBLICAL GODLINESS
Series Editors
Joel R. Beeke and Ryan M. McGraw
Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once said that what the church needs to do most of all is to begin herself to live the Christian life. If she did that, men and women would be crowding into our buildings. They would say, ‘What is the secret of this?’
As Christians, one of our greatest needs is for the Spirit of God to cultivate biblical godliness in us in order to put the beauty of Christ on display through us, all to the glory of the triune God. With this goal in mind, this series of booklets treats matters vital to Christian experience at a basic level. Each booklet addresses a specific question in order to inform the mind, warm the affections, and transform the whole person by the Spirit’s grace, so that the church may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

WHY MUST WE
FORGIVE?
This was her second meeting with the counselor. Ellen attended Sunday worship and was active in her church, but something was stifling her spiritual growth and contentment. It had gotten worse in recent months, so she had sought help from a Christian counselor.
A couple of sessions in, it came out that Ellen had been abused as a child. Clearly, she was wracked with pain over the experience. The counselor tried to get her to open up and to express the hurt, still fresh after all these years.
But Ellen would
