Interactive 80's Game - PRITTHIJIT DATTA
1980s
The 1980s was unarguably a golden decade. It was an influential decade that reshaped the world politically, socially, and culturally. Looking back, I loved growing up in the decade. The quality of life was superb. I spent great times with my family visiting many places. I travelled abroad, strolled on beaches, enjoyed thrilling rides in the theme parks, visited family friends on long-distance drives on the motorways, and played with their children nicely. I have so many fond memories of the decade. I remember swapping Transformer stickers in school, watching Grange Hill, dancing on a disco floor, watching videos, racing downstairs to watch morning shows, listening to a personal stereo, receiving a BMX as a birthday present, pestering my parents to purchase toys associated with cartoons, shopping at Fine Fare and much more.
Our world has changed. Social media is dominating the world. We spend countless hours sharing pictures and updates. Times have changed, and we live with them. But memories never fade away as they are so precious.
What are your fond memories of the decade? The decade is well-remembered for its cool cartoons, great music scene, blockbuster movies, great TV shows, colourful and vibrant fashion, controversial moments in news and sports.
I would make sandcastles on the beach, showing my creativity. Families were sitting on the deck chairs, relaxing and admiring the splendid views of the sea. Some families laid out a picnic showing an assortment of food items to indulge in. Dogs were running energetically on the beach, fetching a ball. Stunning coastal scenery could be seen on sight like a cliff. What a wonderful way to spend a day? The ice cream van would be on the corner, packed with children and parents asking for ice lollies and 99 ice-creams. I would eat the ice cream so quickly, and I would smother my face with ice cream. Other kids laughed at me. I did not realise it. My mum cleaned my face using a box of tissues. It was an embarrassing episode for me.
I remember as a child that my parents had great neighbours who always said hello and built a conversation with us. We had great times inviting them for tea. I played with their kids and even did outings together. We went for rides on the BMX and played conkers. Times were so awesome. My parents invited neighbours for tea. Some of our lovely neighbours’ baby-sitted me and my brother whilst my parents were out. The neighbours treated us with cakes. I stroked their friendly dogs while visiting their house—no distractions from mobile phones and the Internet at all as they did not exist.
I was so addicted to arcade games like Super Mario, Outrun, Double Dragon, and Pac man. I played for long periods. At home, I played on computer games on an Atari game console.
My strict homework routine meant that I could only play for a short period. Parents were strict about how long I can play on video games. The polaroid camera took instant pictures—a cool technology gadget in the 80s. On trips and social gatherings at my home, I would surprise visitors taking a snap. The flash of the light would penetrate their faces. Some of the grown-ups covered their eyes once I took the picture. It was so hilarious. VHS video played cassettes. It was typical and basic 80s technology. On the weekends, we watched videos. The quality was not the best. Sometimes the picture would fizz—tapes needed to be taken out and cleaned to fix the problem. We had a brown TV set.
Littlewoods, Woolworths, and Fine Fare once dominated the high streets during the 80s. The décor and interior typically reflected the decade. The walls of the shops were creamy in colour. Bright carpets were displayed on the floor. Now they have been converted into new shops. In my local town centre, I shopped at the local Fine Fare supermarket with my parents buying regular groceries. On the top floor of a mall, a restaurant once existed serving office workers and customers. It is no longer there. The place has been sealed off fully. Looking at the top floor of the mall, I remembered the memorable days of eating a meal at the restaurant.
Since then, the retails landscape has transformed completely. Our purchasing is done mostly through the Internet. We order groceries online, and we miss out on the real retail experience. Many retailers are facing increasing pressure to survive. In my local town centre, big-name retailers have closed-down like Debenhams and Marks & Spencer. They have existed in the town centre for over 30 years. It feels strange seeing the derelict buildings. In the 80s, it was never like that. We had shops flooded with people. I do not want to see high retail suffer due to technology.
Due to COVID-19, big retailers are announcing store closures, and some are disappearing from our retail landscape completely. This pandemic is affecting the whole world. Economically, the world is struggling now, and 2020 is turning into a terrible year. Writing this book would help to divert our minds and help to relieve the nostalgia we associate with the decade. We must stay safe and see out this crisis by helping and supporting each other.
The 1980s was an eventful decade. The Conservative party ruled as the mainstream party during the decade. A war erupted between Argentina and Britain regarding a dispute over Falkland Islands. Ronald Regan was elected the president of the USA. The collapse of the Berlin wall marked an important chapter. Germany was no longer a divided country. It became one country. The relations between America and USSR were an all-time low. Sports produced plenty of superstars.
I want to make the book fun and engaging.

The first player needs to roll the dice. Move places according to the dice. If you land on the charade square, then you must guess the charade correctly. If the charade is guessed correctly, then you roll the dice again, but you do not compete in the round until your next turn. If you get it wrong, then you cannot roll the dice. 1980s Music Trivia
The 1980s was one of the most glorious eras for music. It was an important part of the huge pop culture in the 21st century. The music was so cool and radio-friendly. Some of the best songs of all time were from this decade. The songs always stay in your mind. They are timeless classics. I would listen to the tunes during a walk, at the gym, and whilst driving.
During the school days, discos were arranged, during the festive period and before the summer holidays. Many pupils would dance to the tunes on the disco floor. The floor would light
