Chapter 1
I guess you couldn’t call it running away when your whole family thinks you’re dead. I won’t tell you my name just yet. I grew up in a little town called Dark Hills, Virginia. It’s a town where everyone knows everyone. My name is Cavanna Ice, by the way. Yes, I’m dead, or undead, whatever you want to call it. I ran away from home about two years ago, and I have never looked back. I ran away with the love of my life, but he didn’t tell me that he was a vampire, and that night while I was sleeping he bit me. That morning I woke up with fangs and a taste for blood, and he was lying next to me, and what he said was Welcome to your new life, my love.
Since then I have been a vampire, always hiding in the day, killing people whenever I was thirsty, and missing my family. Oh, I almost forgot the vampire that bit me. His name is Justice Shadow. He is the prince of the vampires. He rules a shadowed kingdom called Blood Throne, a kingdom so evil that once you enter it you never come back out; you become one of them. Many light vampires went into the fortress, and they never came out; they become the soldiers of Blood Throne Kingdom. They travel all around the countryside killing everything in sight, and those who are left alive they turn, and the people who have done no harm are turned into the very thing they fear the most. Since the very day I became a vampire, I have tried everything in my power to try and stop Justice’s plans, but not one thing has worked. I haven’t seen Justice in about two hundred years, but I don’t care. Once Justice said to me, Give up this losing fight and join me as my queen. I still love you. I turned you for a reason.
But I never found out what that reason was, because I ran away before he could finish talking. I can still hear his words in my head all these hundreds of years. What would have happened if I had joined him then? Could I have saved more of the world, or could I have destroyed it all?
Cavanna Ice was lurking in the darkness of a park just outside New York preying on two human boys about seventeen or eighteen years of age, playing football. The one with green eyes and pale blond hair was the one she was watching the most; he looked the sweeter of the two. It was now midnight, just right for hunting. Slowly Cavanna stalked forward toward the boys who had no idea that a hungry vampire was lurking in the shadows ready to kill them with one swift motion with her razor-sharp fangs. Cavanna then decided that the other boy would be a problem, so she reached out to his mind and said, You are very late for dinner. You have to go home now.
She pulled back and watched the show. Hey, man,
said the boy to the other boy with green eyes, I have to go. I am very late for dinner. See you around.
With that he left, leaving the other boy to her. Xander watched as Cash left, and then he looked up at the full moon and wondered what was out there to see. Xander wanted to see the world and everything, but he knew he couldn’t yet. Then Xander left like he was being watched by someone or something, but he couldn’t place it. Then he heard something moving behind him, and then Xander turned around and saw a pair of ice blue eyes staring at him from the dark. Xander bolted from where he stood running as fast as he could, but before he could get out of the park, Xander ran into a tree, and everything went black. Cavanna ran through the midnight moonlight looking for the dumb human boy that ran and he probably knocked himself out or something like that. She hoped that she could find him and feed before the sun came up. Boy,
said Cavanna, humans are stupid.
She ran through the park with her pale blond hair shining like white silk in the moonlight. Then Cavanna heard a faint heartbeat, and it was close by, very close indeed. So Cavanna made for the sound of the heartbeat. She found him under an oak tree. By now it was five in the morning, and she needed to get back in the shadows and soon. But she was so thirsty. Then Cavanna dropped to her knees and let her fangs retract and moved his head to get a better bite, and then she sank her fangs into his neck and began to drink very deeply, but before she was done, Cavanna heard him moan in pain. She quickly pulled back, wiped her mouth, and retracted her fangs back into her mouth out of sight. His eyes flew open, and he looked around frantically, and finally he focused on Cavanna’s face. She smiled down at him, and he just looked at her like she was an angel. Then his hand went to his neck, and when he pulled his hand back it was covered in blood. That’s when Cavanna asked, Are you all right? Do you need a doctor?
No,
he said. I don’t. But thanks anyway. Are you an angel?
he asked, and he moved his face to touch her face, and she moved away. No,
said Cavanna, I am no angel. I am just the opposite of an angel.
Then why did you help me?
I was just passing through, and I saw you lying here, so I thought I would help you out. You should be grateful, not ungrateful,
snapped Cavanna.
You’re right. I am sorry. Thank you for saving my life.
Don’t mention it ever again,
said Cavanna.
My name is Xander Cross. What’s your name?
asked Xander.
You don’t need to know my name. We won’t ever meet again,
said Cavanna. Cavanna then stood up and held out her hand to him to help him up; he took it without a word, and then she left with Xander Cross staring after her.
Chapter 2
All the way home Xander couldn’t stop thinking about the girl who had helped him. She was so beautiful and powerful in her own way. Xander Cross, where in the world have you been all night?
yelled his mother.
I fell asleep in the park, and I just woke up and stuff.
Then Xander went upstairs to bed. As the next morning sunrise hovered above the city in the apartment where Xander’s family lived, there in his messy room he started to wake from his sleepy slumber. All the memories from the previous night were a blur. Xander tried to leave his cozy bed, but the sun was creeping through the curtains and burned his eyes, and Xander fell flat on his face onto the floor. That was weird,
said Xander to himself. I should be more careful these days.
Xander made his way to the
