CHAPTER ONE
M y name is Julie and my sister in law is Sue and we were working in my flower beds in my front yard on a hot Thursday in May. Sue has been my sister in law for 19 years and we have the same taste in flowers. We were close to quitting when an ordinary blue Chevy panel van slowed and pulled to a stop on the side of the road in my yard. The gentleman who got out of the van looked like any middle aged farmer, coveralls and all. Once we approached him we saw he was a very ugly man. His deformed face was mean looking. He said he was looking for a place that was for sale in the area and was lost he was holding a map. Sue and I approached to see if we could help, that’s when he pulled out a pistol hidden by the map and said, get in the back of the van. We had no choice I don’t care what anyone says when a gun is pointed at you; you do what you are told. Once in the van we realized it was a large padded metal box, no way we could escape or be heard yelling. We where both dressed for working in the yard, t-tops and shorts, no place for cell phones, because they would have fallen out when we when bent over. We fell to the floor as he took off down the road; he drove for hours and would not stop for anything. We finally fell asleep lying on the vans cold padded floor and woke when he stopped to open a gate and back into his yard.
When he opened the door it was fading evening light, but brighter than the interior of the van. He told us this would be our home for the rest of our lives. He told us to take off all our cloths and put them in the back of the van. At first we hesitated, but once he shoved the gun in our faces we did as told. I had once in my younger days, I am 62 years old and Sue if 51 years old, been in a nudist colony so taking off my cloths did not bother me as much as it did Sue, she stood there crying. He slapped her and told her to stop or she would get more of the pain.
He then showed us the fact that the place was surrounded by a white board fence topped with barbwire as far as you could see and from there chain link fence topped with barbwire and this was why we were not allowed to have cloths that could help in escaping. He stated he had 100 hundred acres and all of it was surrounded in this way. The fence is on a concrete foundation one foot in the ground so digging out was not an option since most of his land was on a mountain top full of rock.
He proceeded to take us to what he called the bunkhouse where the other women where. He said there were three other women there and they would fill us in on what was going to been happening to us. He told an older black woman named Bertha to take care of us which she did. Bertha showed us around.
The bunkhouse was one large room, where the commode and shower was exposed to the rest of the room. There were 10 cots even though he never had more than five women there at a time. There was an old fashion black wood burning cook stove and a dining table and six chairs.
CHAPTER TWO
B ertha told us a story that chilled us to the bone, while she showed us the bathroom and fed us.
Bertha was a light skinned black woman 47 years old and was the first woman he caught and brought to his farm. She was a good cook, but not much help in his two gardens. The first garden was for food and the second was for his pot (marijuana). So he took more women as needed. They as well as the two of us would work in the gardens, eat and sleep naked in the bunkhouse. The only other thing he wanted from his women was for his sexual needs, when, where and whatever he wanted. His sexual needs were based on how much pain he could inflict.
Bertha pretty much stayed to herself, she had been there 20 years and was now 47 years old but acted 70.
The rest of the story came from Betty, Sally and Brenda.
Two of the women were white, Betty short 5'0 and stocky about 35 years old had been there about 10 years and Brenda tall and lanky 6'0
who was 46 and had been there 12 years. Sally was a young 23 year old dark black woman about 5'6" and muscular who had been there about 5 years.
Betty kept to herself because she could not take in all that had happened to her, she did what she was told and that was all.
Brenda and Sally would talk to us but only at night when the lights were out, because he was known to spy on them to see if they were trying to break out. If he thought they were planning anything he would beat them with a belt the next morning and make them work with their backs bleeding in the hot sun. Once was enough of that for anyone.
We were too tired to talk much that first
