Educational issues have been discussed during the presidential campaign, the state elections, and especially after the global pandemic has changed the way the students learn: face-to-face, hybrid, or online.
The second edition of this book includes some innovative teaching ideas, and the Covid19-concerns in socioeconomic level.
The main concern is the state of education in the United States. And why does it differ from other countries?
Why do the American students score lower than many other countries in international tests?
Why are the American students not interested in science and mathematics? Why their scores are not as high?
This book discusses about the similarities and differences between two countries: Finland and the United States. Finland has scored high in all the international assessments, whereas the United States has not.
The low scores in international assessments are puzzling because the U.S. universities are top class, and therefore, you would expect the American students score high when compared the students aged fifteen. Instead, the American students score lower, and they have been scoring about the same level for the past decade.
Are the top universities only for rich and privileged students, and therefore, they have more possibilities to succeed and thrive, whereas these international tests are made among all the students?
This short book is written from the point of view of a former student. I have gone through the 12-year school system in Finland. My middle and high school were among the top two schools in Finland’s nationwide school ranking at the time when
