      Jawaharlal Nehru; 1889 – 1964 was an Indian anti-colonial nationalist, profane humanist, social democrat and author who was a central figure in Bharat throughout the twentieth century. Upon India's independence in 1947, Nehru served as the country's prime minister for seventeen years. He promoted commonwealth, secularism, and science and technology throughout the Fifties, powerfully influencing India's arc as a contemporary nation.
