100+ Cross Stitch Patterns to Mix and Match - Jane Greenoff
Introduction
Cross stitch is an easy-to-master and satisfying craft. Instructions for getting started are covered in this section, while a wide variety of patterns can be found throughout the rest of the pages of this book.
chpt_fig_001.jpgWHAT IS COUNTED CROSS STITCH?
The day I discovered counted cross stitch will always be clear in my memory—I looked at the fabric in the packet to find that there was no printed design! Gazing at blank fabric and not knowing what to do next was a bit scary. However, you can see from the patterns included in the book that I mastered the craft and have never looked back! All of the patterns in this book are intended for creating counted cross stitch designs. This simply means that you transfer the pattern on the chart to your fabric by counting the squares on the chart and changing your thread colors accordingly. You can add detail by using fractional stitches, backstitch, and French knots (see pages 16–18), but the focus of the stitching is cross stitch.
chpt_fig_002.jpgchpt_fig_003.jpg100+ Cross Stitch Patterns to Mix and Match presents a glorious combination of borders, alphabets, and motifs for you to use to create your own masterpieces. There are a number of software programs available that will enable you to copy your favorite borders and motifs and then edit and manipulate them to create the design you want. If you are not going to use a computer, you can arrange the patterns on a master sheet of graph paper and experiment using colored crayons or pens.
