About this ebook

India is a country of spirituality and it is full of pilgrim centres or dhams. Our coun try is considered to be and is a miraculous land of the Vedas. From Kashmir to Kanya Kumari there are many pilgrim centres. People in Satya yuga, Threta yuga and Dwapara yuga had longer life and were blessed with divine powers achieved by their penances. With their powers, they could see gods and goddesses whenever they wanted and demi-gods also vis ited them here. But people in Kaliyuga are not so much blessed and they also have shorter lives. The qualities of the people of Kaliyuga has been explained in Srimad Bhagavatam as short-lived, quarrelsome, lazy, misguided, unlucky and disturbed (SB 1.1.10). Because of this, people of Kaliyuga are not able to see gods or the Supreme Lord directly with their eyes. They are not even able to feel their presence in everyday life. Hence, exclusively for our benefit, the Lord is present in the archa vigraha form in temples and in houses.

    INTRODUCTION

Hare Krishna! In our long-to-medium lives or years spent, we all would have definitely heard of words like Kshetradanam, Teertha Yatra, Religious tours etc. Even Indian Railways conducts many tours with special trains like: Dakshin darshan yatra, Mahasivarathri nava jyothirlinga yathra, Dwarkadhish jyotirling yatra, Bharat darshan etc. Moreover, there are bus packages, Char Dham Yatra packages etc. Also many religious gurus take their disciples to different destinations. Going on such yatras is meant for our spiritual purification. People of all ages must visit all the holy places and get the blessings of the dham and the dham-vasis. After their visit to the dham, in course of time, children tend to forget the pastimes of the Lord enacted in Their respective dhams, so, this book is essentially written to educate children on the importance of the dham and also the pastimes of the Lord enacted therein.

The Laugh & Learn Kids Yatra book, takes children to six glorious, religious holy places and brings them back safely. It is as if they go forward in the Time Machine and return back, with divine thoughts and knowledge, with all-new religious approach embedded in their brains. The entire thing is done in a fun way. This book contains twelve stories, selected with the intention of diversity to avoid forced insertion of any uninteresting subjects. It essentially means that children and, parents would enjoy the contents thoroughly. The whole thing has been designed and packaged with guidance from Lord Krishna, in the sense, by a Bhagavad Gita sloka, matching the spirit of the particular religious place. To name just two, we shall talk of Jagannath Puri and Mayapur. Can we ever think of going ahead with description of these places without touching any of the transcendental characteristics, the divine activities of Lord Chaitanya? Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is spread over a span of a third or 33% of this book; duly done, anyway. What are the highlights of His great personality? They are His early sanyas at the age of 24 and His life's mission of Hari nama sankeetanam, introduction of Hare Krishna mahamantra to the world. It is essentially for that, He took avatar as a devotee.

Bhagavad Gita Sloka 15.18 highlights and endorses the aspect of Krishna being the greatest and being celebrated in the world (Jagat) apart from the Vedas.

Krishna always emphasises the importance of control of senses and desires. And Srila Prabhupada, the most favourite disciple and child of Krishna takes the concept to a different level (higher) in his books and lectures by saying that there can never be total elimination of desires and attachments. As we develop higher tastes, our attach ment for lower tastes goes away.

Harinam sankeertan and Harinam japa concept has spread in the world because of Lord Chaitanya. In the Bhagavad Gita sloka 10.25, Lord Krishna declares that of all sacrifices or yagnyas, He is Japa-yagnyam. Since Lord Chaitanya is always recom mending Japa yagnya and Sankirtan, we found sloka 10.25 apt for His place of appear ance i.e, Mayapur.

Similarly, a suitable sloka has been brought out for each of the other divine places also. What about the fun way that we mentioned? We have added a suitable dose of humour to the book as per our practice and motto, Ek slok ek joke so as to sugar-coat the whole book
