About this ebook

His letter promised information. A hint as to the source of the attacks on my bloodline. Of course, nothing is ever that simple with Lucifer. He wants something in exchange.

Me.

It's just one night. But our long and tangled history means that we both want what we can't have. He sees me as a possession. As someone who defied him and refused to be his queen.

Once, he damned me to this existence. As one of the undead. But as an ancient enemy closes in, the fallen angel might be the only one to save me...

    About the Author

W ill you feed from me tonight, my lady?

I smiled at the young man. His youth… was a problem. He told me he was only twenty when I turned him into a vampire five years ago, and remained far more immature and youthful than I would have expected.

Too bad. Henry was truly attractive in every other sense, and as good-natured and sweet as it was possible for a vampire to be.

But not the brightest of my favorites. Far from it, in fact.

    I sighed.

Perhaps I should have waited. What were a few more months or years to someone who lived—or rather, existed—as long as I had? A little more ordinary life experience might have done him good. But I needed a new diversion.

And no amount of time would turn Henry into someone he wasn’t. Someone more like…

For someone who no longer needed to breathe, I was sighing a lot tonight. I needed to stop comparing him to Andre. I never loved my former favorite. Not in the way some assumed I had. But I resolved to avoid giving my heart to anyone long before I met him.

    It was too dangerous.

I learned that lesson the hard way, even before I became the creature that I was.

Still, Andre had been clever and as interesting outside of bed as he was in it. A devoted lover. As considerate as he was skilled.

That devotion now focused on another.

Someone I pushed him to. After I sent him away from me. Told him I no longer…

It was for his safety. For the security of my bloodline. He was stronger now because of his bond with the lycan female. It allowed me to worry about him a little less, as well as having a new weapon to help us against our enemies.

But all the rational reasons behind what I’d done didn’t make his absence any. Perhaps I loved him a little, after all.

    No.

It was a lack of… anyone interesting enough. I had not been careful enough in my selection of my favorites to avoid that, or perhaps this boredom that plagued me was a sign of my age.

No one knew how old I was. Or that I had not been made in the same manner as any vampire that I heard of.

    None of that mattered.

My heart died a long time ago. Lost before I gained my current state, but the full price…

No. I would not allow myself to think of him now. He should have lost that power over me centuries ago.

It was that damned note he sent that made him dwell on things. Just seeing his handwriting after all this time…

I turned to Henry, forcing myself to give my favorite a smile. It was not practiced and obviously false, yet he did not seem to notice.

I leaned in close, my face near the base of his throat, tempting me to stop the games I usually wanted to play and take the blood I needed.

Henry was much taller than me. Larger too. The newer vampires of my line all possessed that advantage. The
