    •46 (2½") precut strips assorted blues*

    •Basic sewing tools and supplies

    Project Notes

    Read all instructions before beginning this project.

    Stitch right sides together using a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise specified.

    Materials and cutting lists assume 40" of usable fabric width for yardage.

    Arrows indicate directions to press seams.

    WOF – width of fabric

    LOF – length of fabric

    HST – half-square triangle

    QST – quarter-square triangle

    Cutting

    From background cut:

    •80 (4½ × 6½) A rectangles

    •31 (2½ × 14½) B rectangles

    •100 (2½") C squares

    •80 (1½ × 4½) D rectangles

    •80 (1½ × 3½) E rectangles

    •8 (2½" × WOF) G/H inner border strips

    From assorted blue precut strips cut a total of:

    •320 (2½ × 4½) F rectangles

    •92 (2½") C squares

    From border/binding cut:

    •4 (6½" × LOF) I/J outer border strips

    •4 (2½" × LOF) binding strips

    Completing the Blocks

    1. Lay out five background C and four assorted blue C squares. Sew together to make a center unit (Figure 1). Make 20.

    2. Layout two assorted F rectangles. Sew together to make a pieced square (Figure 2). Make 160.

    3. Referring to Sew & Flip Flying Geese on page 6, use two pieced squares and an A rectangle to make 80 flying geese (Figure 3). Pay close attention to the direction of the pieced squares seam. Save cutoff triangles for the next step.

    4. Sew the trimmed off triangles from step 3 together to make 80 HST units (Figure 4a). Square up to 3½ × 3½.

    5. Lay out a step 4 unit, a D rectangle and an E rectangle. Sew units together to make a corner unit (Figure 4b). Unit should measure 4½ × 4½. Make 80.

    6. Sew a step 3 unit to either side of a center unit (Figure 5). Make 20.

    7. Sew step 5 units to either side of a step 3 unit, noting orientation of the units (Figure 6). Make 40.
