BOB LEMOULLEC, 1010 WINS NEWS ANCHOR: It’s Wednesday, March 9th, 2023, I’m Bob LeMoullec and here’s what’s happening. New York Governor Simon Miller for president? That’s the rumor coming out of Albany, but the governor? Well, earlier this morning, he wasn’t saying much.
(SOUNDBITES)
GOV MILLER: My focus remains the people of New York. I have served this great state now for six years and it’s the best job I’ve ever had. I’ll leave it at that.
REPORTER: So, we can forget the White House?
GOV MILLER: Let’s just say, if things change, you’ll be the first to know.
BOB LEMOULLEC, 1010 WINS NEWS ANCHOR: Not exactly a denial, but not a confirmation either. The democratic governor, who will be 74 in May, is polling well nationally but for now, mum seems to be the word. We do have some breaking news. There’s been a small plane crash in Rahway, New Jersey. Our own 1010 WINS NEWS reporter, Mike Rowe, is on the scene. What’s the latest Mike?
MIKE ROWE, 1010 WINS NEWS REPORTER: Yeah, Hey Bob, one victim, was taken to a local hospital. His injuries are being called critical. The single engine aircraft was attempting to make an emergency landing on a baseball field, not far from Linden Airport. By the looks of it, the plane hit the ground hard. There is smoke but local rescue crews have put out the fire. Of note, there are witnesses saying a woman was seen dragging the injured man from the airplane. She then, and again this is according to a few witnesses, jumped into a taxi and left.
BOB LEMOULLEC, 1010 WINS NEWS ANCHOR: A woman left the scene? Was she on the aircraft?
MIKE ROWE, 1010 WINS NEWS REPORTER: Yes, it looks that way.
BOB LEMOULLEC, 1010 WINS NEWS ANCHOR: OK, That’s Mike Rowe, reporting live from Rahway, New Jersey. So, again, at least one person was injured following the crash of a single engine airplane not far from Linden Airport. Unconfirmed reports indicate that a woman helped the critically injured victim before leaving the scene. As we get more details, we will share them with you.

From: The Desk of Liz White
It was Henry’s wife calling. A very busy woman but she didn’t actually work, she didn’t have to. Leighton Jones was Park Ave, a true Manhattan socialite. America’s 0.001 percent. Leighton grew up privileged and married into even more privilege when she wed my boss, Henry Jones.
Hello Leighton.
Umm, Liz, I’m in Rahway.
I wasn’t sure what she meant.
Rahway?
Yeah, I need Richie. Where is Richie?
Richie was Leighton and Henry’s driver but I didn’t know where he was.
Leighton, perhaps he’s parked outside the townhouse?
I said trying to at least cover for Richie whose most important responsibility was being available for all of Leighton’s needs, usually in or around her six story Upper East Side home.
Well, I need him! Call him immediately and tell him I’m in Rahway and to...
The call dropped. I hung up confused, where was Leighton and what was this Rahway thing about? I called Richie, maybe he knew something. He picked up without saying hello.
Hey Liz, you hear the radio?
I assumed that meant there was some big sporting news thingy going on so I tried cutting him off but he kept talking.
They’re saying a small plane crash, and uhh, Mrs. J, she was on a small plane.
This made no sense to me. Why would Leighton Jones be on a small plane?
Richie, what the hell are you talking about?
Between Leighton and Richie, no one was making sense.
Liz, I’m sworn to secrecy, Mr. J can never know what I told you.
Told me what, Richie?
Mrs. J, she’s, I can’t say.
Well, Leighton just called me from Rahway, I think? Call her cell now!
She called you? When?
Just now, go call her! She’s looking for you!
Thank Jesus! Just don’t tell anyone what I told you.
He said before hanging up.
I googled small plane crash in Rahway
but nothing came up. Was Leighton in a plane crash? Nah, Richie was talking nonsense again, I was sure. I tried calling Leighton back but it went to voicemail, I tried a second and third time. On the fourth, she finally picked up.
Leighton? Has Richie gotten in touch with you?
Oh, yes, he has.
Leighton indicated as if everything were fine.
Relieved, I asked her if there was anything else she needed from me.
Don’t mention any of this to Henry.
Leighton said before abruptly hanging up.
Any of what??

BOB LEMOULLEC, 1010 WINS NEWS ANCHOR: It’s 11 AM in New York City, I’m Bob LeMoullec, and here’s what’s happening. A small plane crash in Rahway, New Jersey has turned into a bit of a mystery. The pilot has been identified as Christopher Crimi, an Italian national, and the famed chef and founder of The Italian Plate restaurant chain. He apparently departed from Teterboro Airport when he attempted to make an emergency landing. Officials say Crimi is in critical condition at an area hospital. Now here’s the mystery. According to reports, a woman was seen helping the pilot to safety before leaving the scene of the crash. Our own 1010 WINS NEWS reporter, Mike Rowe is in Rahway, New Jersey and he’s with some eyewitnesses. Mike?
MIKE ROWE, 1010 WINS NEWS REPORTER: Yeah, Hi Bob, it’s a strange one for sure. I’ve spoken with some neighbors and they all are saying the same thing. They heard the crash and saw the smoking wreckage of the single engine aircraft shortly before the mystery woman climbed out. Tell me, sir, what did you see?
WITNESS #1: The plane went down hard. I saw smoke and fire, then a door opens and this woman dragged a guy from the plane before running away from the scene. I seen a cab coming, she jumped in and off she went. I couldn’t believe it!"
MIKE ROWE, 1010 WINS NEWS REPORTER: And you ma’am, you said she was dressed fashionably?
WITNESS #2: Yeah, a woman, a white woman, a brunette, I saw her running with her big fancy bag and fancy shoes. She just took off like she had somewhere else she needed to be.
MIKE ROWE, 1010 WINS NEWS REPORTER: So again, here’s what we’re learning at the scene. A woman was seen climbing out of the aircraft, holding what appeared to be some type of large handbag. She helped the pilot to safety before making a run for it. She hailed a passing taxi, climbed in and drove off. I have reached out to the local taxi company but they’re not saying much at this hour.
BOB LEMOULLEC,
