About this ebook
“Deranged, beautiful, hilarious, and poignant, Jake Likes Onions is one of my absolute favorite comics.” —Matthew Inman, Eisner Award winner and #1 New York Times–bestselling author of How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You
Ranging from the relatable to the utterly nonsensical and bizarre, The Book of Onions focuses on themes of loneliness, desperation, and failure. And misplaced optimism. And perverted talking fruit. Sort of like Gary Larson’s “The Far Side,” if Gary were way less accomplished and suffered from depression.
“Witty, subtle, and surreal, these comics look like they were drawn by a time-traveling Victorian caricaturist with a strange mind and a keen eye for the oddities of modern life.” —Reza Farazmand, New York Times–bestselling author of Hope It All Works Out! A Poorly Drawn Lines Collection
“Jake's gags sting. And they have many layers. And they stay with you for quite a while. All very much like the eponymous vegetable.” —Nicholas Gurewitch, Eisner Award-winning creator of The Perry Bible Fellowship

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Weirdly funny, funnily weird.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Thompson's Book of Onions is a collection of one shot cartoons mostly focusing on the darkly humorous side of life. Other comics were simple absurd non sequiturs guaranteed to startle a laugh out of the reader. Like sexy bananas. I enjoyed the artwork. Some of it, and the humor, reminded me of The Far Side, and others called to mind the Non Sequitur comic, even though that one was only one panel and each of these is a four panel comic. I loved the disclaimer at the beginning too! Haha, priceless! "If you were expecting an educational volume about vegetables, then I am sorry for wasting your time..." Highly recommended! Great for a pick me up laugh. Perfect coffee table book.***Many thanks to the Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This collection of strip from a web comic has lots of laugh for my guy Josh, but it’s just not for me. It’s not my type of comedy. But the book moves smoothly and is well arranged. There are a few really funny, or at least shareable strips, but not a book I feel I need in my collection.
