His Nanny - Ashlyn Fables
CHAPTER 1
ALICIA
I unfold the address given to me by Kinder Love, the nanny agency I’m contracted with. Castle Heights is a picture of prestige and privilege. A place with as much money as Beverly Hills, but for those who like seclusion.
There’s no way you’re going to get this job. They’re going to see right through you…
I shove the thought from my head as I navigate the winding roads leading to my interview, praying that I pull off the ruse. Because if I don’t, I’ll be sleeping in my car again.
To think, once I had actually believed I could follow my dream and become an author, writing beloved children’s books for the generations to come. I was so naïve.
I come to a large gate with a panel right outside the driver’s side window. I press a button, and a voice comes through the speaker.
Hillside Estate. Are you lost and in need of directions?
Um…no. I have an appointment with…the agency wouldn’t give me his name. They said he was a single dad needing a nanny.
Your name?
Alicia Austin,
I lie.
The information provided said you would be arriving in a red Jeep Cherokee, 2018 model, plates—
It’s in the shop,
I say, immediately regretting that I cut him off. I’m borrowing a friend’s car, but I’ll have my Jeep back soon enough.
The gate creaks open.
Very well. I’ll tell the master you’ve arrived.
The master? Rich people have such egos.
I drive down the road to a circular driveway and park my old Toyota Corolla, hoping that it starts again when I have to leave.
This will never work…
I step out of my car and make my way to the enormous ten-foot doors leading inside. They open as I approach, and an old man in a suit greets me.
Miss Alicia Austin, my name is Fenris Evans. I am the household manager. Master Sage will see you in the study.
I snort out a laugh, and when Fenris looks at me funny, I say, I’m sorry. This just feels like I’m in a game of Clue. You know, with the Study, the Observatory, and all the other rooms. Master Sage could very well be one of the characters.
His brow furrows. With your experience, I’d think that wouldn’t be so novel.
Oh, shit…
I mean, it’s not, but every time I hear rooms like that spoken aloud, I get that same feeling,
I say, hoping he buys my lie.
Follow me,
he says, guiding me from the foyer into a hall. All the fixtures and furnishings are ornate. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before except in movies. One little candle holder probably costs more than everything I own. Including my junker car.
But hopefully, that will change. If I manage to snag this position, I’ll make enough over the summer to save a little. I won’t have to pay room and board. I’ll be able to pull myself out of the gutter.
Fenris opens a set of double doors, then gestures for me to enter. The room is dim, with floor-to-ceiling shelves lining the walls, each of them holding antiques. There is a large desk in a corner, a fireplace, and a sitting area with leather couches, chairs, and a giant of a man seated, newspaper in hand.
Master Sage, Miss Alicia Austin is here to see you,
Fenris says before withdrawing from the room and closing the door behind him.
Mr. Sage is not the man I had expected him to be. He’s not old or fatherly—he’s young and hot. He’s wearing a button-up shirt that can hardly contain the thick cords of muscles running down his arms.
And then it hits me. This guy owns Sage Securities, one of the top security firms in the country if not the world. He’s a recluse, but I see him give interviews from time to time. He’s said to be one of the world’s most elusive billionaires. A self-made man that grew an empire from the ground up.
Hello, Miss Austin. My name is Blake Sage. Please take a seat.
BLAKE
One of the reasons I’ve done so well in life is that I have a keen eye for detail. Looking over the file for Alicia Austin, I’ve come to realize one very important truth: the woman before me is not Alicia Austin.
Although she bears a striking resemblance to Alicia, this woman has a different hairline, nose, and facial measurements. They’re slight, subtle differences that wouldn’t be caught by most. But I’m not like most people.
She’s beautiful. Her face is blessed with the ‘golden ratio’ of perfection that science touts. She wore a baggy dress, so it’s hard to guess how large her breasts are or the fullness of her hips. I’d love to find out, but that would be more trouble than it’s worth. Still, why she’d want to work for Kinder Love as a nanny when she could by lying out on some rich man’s yacht is beyond me.
My daughter’s name is Madeline. She is the most important person in my life and her care and safety are of the utmost importance to me.
A warm smile graces her lips. Understood.
This position came open because her current nanny had a crisis and had to spend the summer back home. She should return in August. Are you available for the next three months?
Yes.
It says here you’re twenty-four.
That’s correct.
She doesn’t look twenty-four. If I had to place her, I’d say she was nineteen at most. She just looks too young and sweet to be out of her teens.
Maddy’s seven and has an independent streak that sees her getting into a lot of trouble. You’ll have to be on your toes. Understood?
Of course.
What made you want to care for children, Alicia?
I ask, curious to find out more about the mysterious woman who’s trying to con me.
Her gorgeous blue eyes downcast. She’s nervous. She doesn’t like lying.
I guess I chose this path because I want to be a part of raising up a kinder, gentler world.
That wasn’t a lie.
If I were to give you no insight, how would you structure your day?
She thinks for a moment, chewing on her lower lip and driving me to insanity. It’s clear she lacks experience, and I’d love nothing more than to take her under my wing and school her good. With my cock. I have to remind myself that she’s not who she says she is, and this could all be a ruse.
Finally, she replies with, I’d get up at seven and make myself a pot of coffee and ready breakfast. I’d get Madeline up at seven-forty-five, allowing her a half hour to eat, brush her teeth, and get dressed before going to the park.
That’s an early time to go to the park.
"The temperature is cooler, and we’d avoid the worst of the harmful
