      The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows that blended with the darkening alleys. Kira darted into one such alley, pressing herself against the cool stone wall as a pair of guards lumbered past. Their scaled armor gleamed, a stark reminder of the draconic overlords who ruled Drakoria not from ancient, lofty peaks, but from opulent banking halls and gilded palaces. She waited until the clinking of their armor faded into the distance before resuming her path.

      Kira’s mind wandered back to the day her life had irrevocably changed. Her family had been respected traders, their business flourishing until a sudden, crippling debt had been called in by the dragon bankers. It was an impossible sum, fabricated from thin air and enforced with ruthless efficiency. Her parents had lost everything—their home, their livelihood, and ultimately, their lives. Kira had been left alone, a bitter seed of vengeance taking root in her heart.

      That was ten years ago. Now, she was a thief, a ghost in the night, known only by the name she had given herself—Kira. She had honed her skills, learned to move unseen and unheard, to slip past the dragon guards and their magical wards. Tonight, she was on a mission that could change everything.

      The ledger she had stolen from a minor dragon bank earlier that week was tucked safely in the pouch at her side. It had taken weeks of careful planning and execution, but the effort had been worth it. The ledger contained more than just numbers and names—it held tantalizing clues about the Heart of the Mountain, a legendary gem said to grant control over all dragon hoards. If the rumors were true, it was the key to dismantling the entire draconic banking system.

      Kira reached her destination, a dilapidated building on the edge of the merchant district. She slipped inside, ascending a narrow staircase to a small, sparsely furnished room. A single candle flickered on the table, casting a warm glow on the stacks of papers and maps spread across its surface. Kira pulled out the ledger and began to pore over its contents once more, her keen eyes scanning for the hidden codes and cyphers she knew were there.

      Hours passed as she deciphered the cryptic entries, her frustration mounting with each passing moment. The dragons were nothing if not meticulous in their record-keeping, their secrets buried beneath layers of obfuscation. But Kira was nothing if not determined. Her persistence paid off when she found a series of entries marked with a peculiar symbol—a dragon’s claw clutching a gemstone.
