Chapter 1
N ext!
says Tiana as she waves the next customer to me. It's been exactly fifteen minutes of us working together. The only grocery store in this small town, and the only business that hires all the time, is Big Ben’s Grocery. It's getting busy with the longer lines from all the 12 p.m. traffic. As a cashier, I stand here moving the customers' groceries over to be bagged by someone from the meat department. It feels like I’ve been working all day. I can’t lose this job. Michele was eating the entire time. I couldn’t eat while working considering I touch all the butchered meat juice once I scan it in for purchase. Tiana seems more my style. I make sure to clock in and work as much as I can, so I
