A PUPPET
The men in the secret society known as the Lords think they rule the world. And in a way, they do. Each has sold their soul to the devil at a young age in exchange for power and wealth. Like anything else, they have different levels of success. The more they’re willing to serve, the more power they have.

Among them are the Spade brothers, who run Carnage. It’s where the Lords who have not held up their oath go to live out the rest of their lives in shackles. Tucked away from the world as if they never existed.

I VOW. YOU VOW. WE VOW.

I once belonged to a Lord—Saint Beckham Carter. Although nothing was holy about him, I still kneeled as if he could grant me eternity in a world where only evil existed.

At the time, I willingly vowed to be his and allowed him to share me with his “brothers.” But things changed. And what I thought couldn’t get any better got exceptionally worse. So I did the only thing I could and ran from him, knowing I could never return.

Now he’s found me and dragged me back to his hell, where he will make me his pet. The world already thinks I’m dead, so no one will miss me. And I’m just another name on a long list of those who will never know freedom.

What he doesn’t know is why I ran from him in the first place. A Lord doesn’t listen to reason, so it’s not like he’d care anyway. Saint was born a Lord, and he will die as one.

If life has taught me anything, it’s that we all pay for our sins. And Saint will never let me forget that my place is at Carnage, serving him on my knees until death is granted.

2.5 stars, rounded up, full Review on my blog!

I don’t even know how to rate this. And honestly, I think I was expecting sooo much more after all the hype the Spade brothers got in the other books... I'm slightly disappointed.

The first 50% wasn’t bad, actually LOVED it more than all the other books, but the story should have ended there-when Saint found her in Las Vegas.

The last 300 pages were utterly ridiculous, so much happened and it was all over the place. It was just too much, definitely needed some surface editing, and a lot of things in the last 25%-30% were not explained properly, leaving the story a complete mess... with some unanswered questions.

She was ‘buried alive’ but wasn’t (it was Whitney...somehow the bodies were switched shrug), people swallowing bombs and whatnot, the CIA was mentioned, Adam just appeared out of thin air… a lot of filler things that happened in the previous books…her pregnancy around 35%-39% felt forced (her therapist kinda forced it upon her randomly... I mean the therapist knew of her mother's schemes which we find out in the end but.. oof..), haidyn’s confession felt forced...

It was predictable, esp when the therapist mentioned that she was pregnant, and we all know she was r*ped by some random guy (Benny? "ACE") before the vow ceremony… yes the baby was his lmao… and this guy wanted revenge? This random guy just, what? Knows about their world? HOW, when he's an outsider, and Ash was supposed to be his? It doesn't make sense. Unless her mom promised her to him? And what annoyed me the most... we don't even get to know who he actually is.

Benny? / "ACE" says:
“Because I want you to know what it feels like to hold the woman you love dead in your arms.” And with that, he turns and exits the room.

This was never explained... also later on in the book it was more about losing the child she was pregnant with. It was also never said how she lost it or if she even was pregnant tbh.

“Because I want you to understand why I have to hurt you.”
All I can do is shake my head.
...
“You have to lose this baby, too. Just like the last one. I can’t undo a wrong, but I can make a right. A fresh start so we can move on and have our family. Just like we were meant to have.” My stomach sinks at his words. “It’s…you.” I manage to whisper. How did he find me?

"Just like we were meant to have."? She was promised to this random guy? What? So many parts of this weren't explained properly.

At this point, the guy thinks she's pregnant and wants Saint to suffer.

“I brought her back to you.” He points at my wife on her knees, and I look at her confused and then back at him. “See…it took me some time to figure out how to do it, but here we are.” He raises his arms out wide. “As much fun as I had whipping and raping your wife for the past four days, I thought I’d let her go and run back to you. Now you get to suffer the way that I did.”

“Isn’t that right, Saint?” He doesn’t let me answer.
“But no worries. I’m here to repay the favor. An eye for an eye.”
“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. What eye? What fucking favor?” As much as I want to slit his throat, the more he talks, the more time he gives us to come up with a plan. And that just keeps him busy. If he’s talking to me, he’s ignoring her.
He steps toward me. “I’m going to let you watch her lose yours, like I watched her lose mine.”

So all this was actually revenge for losing Benny's unborn child??

Oh wait..almost forgot about the part where everyone finds out that Saint cheated, with the Vow ceremony. God this book is hectic.

“She was never pregnant.”
“Oh, she was.” Ace laughs, and my chest squeezes. “Ashtyn’s mother came to me. Said her daughter was a whore. Addicted to sex. She showed me a picture of her. Then she offered me a job. To fuck her daughter. It wasn’t hard. She liked to party. So I went out, had a friend of hers drug her…”
My breathing grows heavy. I wasn’t sure how I never knew it happened. I was sore for days, but I wasn’t sure why. “She bled all over my cock.”

I don't even know anymore... I've been skimming and rereading parts of this book just to make some kind of sense of it... but I'm at a loss. My brain hurts from even trying to understand the messy last 25% of this book.

Also, what was the purpose of Jasmine's character? She was so annoying. The therapist was extra annoying.

And don't even get me started on Ash. I can't even tell you about her personality because she was all over the place, and poorly written; super flat 2D character. She was just there existing the whole book. I don't know.. I guess I just didn't like her much by the end of the book. I mean she was OK up to 52% but after that; there was something about her inner monologue that just pissed me off.

I swear, craziest part - after being r*ped for 3-4 days straight, Ash and Saint just go back to fucking literally the same night so they could start a family?? Honestly... wtf. And things just seemed like they went back to "normal" as if nothing happened... It was weird...

The epilogue was nice though.

Oct 26th: I JUST GOT AN ARC OK... i'm so ready to dive into this... been dying to get to know the Spade Brothers more, since The Sacrifice

"A Lord is placed strategically out into the world. But no Lord is safe from their own if they break their oath. If you don’t believe in hell, the Spade brothers will change your mind."

I have been curious about Carnage since I started this series. Boy, did I get some answers and was taken on one hell of a wild ride. I was on the edge of my seat through most of this book with all of it's action, twists, and turns, especially the last 100 pages or so. And oh, the spice was hot in this one. Shantel didn't disappoint with the first book of the Spade Brothers.

Ashtyn is the daughter of a Spade and must be given to a lord of Carnage, and there is one that she has been obsessed with for years Saint Carter. What she doesn't know is that he has been just as obsessed with her and will stop at nothing to have her. He is one of the Spade "brothers" who will one day run Carnage. The hellish prison, where those who disobeyed their oath go to live out the rest of their lives. Ashtyn took vows to belong to Saint, but things have changed, and she ran, knowing she could never return. Saint is on a mission and will do anything to find her and drag her back to his hell.

Ashytyn Price is emotionally damaged and that mostly can be blamed on her mother for always putting her down and talking down to her and about her. Aside from all of that, she is strong. She almost has to be in the world she grows up in. To me, she is because she put herself first and ran when she felt there was not another option to save herself. Good on her for putting herself first. She is dirty but in a good way with knowing what she wants and expressing it and doesn't feel shameful for it. I enjoyed her mostly the only thing that I didn't care for in the beginning was that she dumbed herself down so that Saint was superior though I can't fault her entirely as she was raised that way to be a lady and serve her lord, it's part of their society.

"Some women want roses and diamonds, candlelit dinners, and I love yous. Not me. I want to be choked and told I look pretty with your cum covering my face."

Saint Beckham Carter
this man is unhunged, obsessive, protective in the touch her and die sense, loves giving degradation and praise and I was here for it. Don't let all of that fool you though because he has a sweet and tender side that is only for Ashtyn. He will do anything for her and calls her sweetheart. I swear that I melted anytime he called her that and gave her forehead kisses.

“There is no God here, sweetheart. Make no mistake, you will kneel for me, but the things I have planned for you are anything but holy.”

Ashtyn and Saint
have been obsessed with each other for years without the other knowing it. The sexual tension and chemisrty between them was chefs kiss even before she had vowed to be his. Though she is his he does share her with his two brothers Haidyn and Kashton but I honestly didn't mind as it is consensual. They complimented each other so well. He liked to enflict punishment and she loved to take it. She thrived on the pain. Their sexual tension only intensifies after he had captured her and brought her back to Carnage and I was eating that shit up. Though he made it seem that he hated her he was still very much in love with her and wanted his revenge because she ran away from him. Boy did he get it but our girl Ashtyn was loving every moment of it that she could get.

“I loved you then. I love you now. You’ve always been it for me, Ashtyn.”

There are a few things that left me with some questions. Maybe we will get some more answers in the next books to come. I did enjoy the ending but it did feel a bit rushed to me hence leaving some gaps and questions unanswered. However, I did enjoy this and can't wait for Haidyn and Kashton's books.

Favorite quotes and moments

"Evil will always outshine the good because it will do whatever it takes in order to survive. The good doesn’t have what it takes."

“Remember that, sweetheart. I love you so much that I have to hurt you.”

“I never want to exist in a world without you in it, sweetheart.”

"She may not have a choice at how her life turned out, but she chose me. And I’m going to spend the rest of my life reminding her that no other man could ever come close to what she needs. Even if that means I have to keep her tied to my bed twenty-four seven."

“This is your hell now, Ashtyn, and your life sentence starts today.”

“You need to understand one thing, Ashtyn. You’re here because I want you here. You have no say in what I do to you. You’re mine to use, to play with. When I’m done with you, I’ll be sure to return the favor.”

"If she needs me, I’m going to be there for her. However I can be. I won’t ever let her think that I can’t be the man she needs."

This is a complete 180 from The Ritual…give me Ryat back any day!!

I DNF’d at 38% because I just didn’t care anymore. What was the point?! The FMC was annoying, had absolutely no ambition in life other than to have sex with a bunch of men. She literally does nothing but sit in her room, watch porn and drink wine. Wow! What a catch.

Saint was just blah for me. I mean…is he a hard and fierce man or some whipped sissy? He acts tough one minute and then says “poor girl” the next. Also, his declaration of love was entirely random and unwarranted. He was in absolute disarray about the initiation of whatever her name is because I can’t even remember…Ash. And it was just a brand?! I expected a lot worse.

She couldn’t listen worth a crap, even to save her own life. Pretty sure she was just a human inflatable doll. It was too long, too boring, too much sex with no real plot. Yes Shantel’s books are dark and FULL of smut but damn…smut has to have a good storyline to back it up! I don’t need to know EVERYTIME they get it on. Get to the point!

And don’t worry if you get a UTI…doesn’t matter to Saint because we can’t stop having sex for a UTI! Maybe once it becomes a kidney infection?

Being bound gagged and placed in a straight jacket in a room with all kinds of old men watching while freaking the F out isn’t appealing…unless your Ash because boy was she turned on!

This book was not for me! I was really excited to read the Spade brothers because the glimpses in the rest of the series were intriguing but this was a waste of my time and energy and a major disappointment. I even asked someone else how it ended and so glad I gave up. Ahhh!

"A Lord is placed strategically out into the world. But no lord is safe from their own if they break their oath."

The Lords think they rule the world.
They have their path from the day they're born.
Among the Lords are the Spade Brothers.
And Saint Beckham Carter is one of them.
They inherit the place where the Lords who have not held up their oath go.
Carnage.
Every Lord's worst nightmare.
Saint Beckham Carter has always wanted one thing. One girl.
He had her. He captured her.
But then she slipped his clutches.
And Saint is going to make sure she remembers who she belongs to.

"If you don't believe in hell, the Spade brothers will change your mind."

Ashtyn Lane Price is the daughter of a Spade.
That means she must get married to one of the other sons of a Spade.
She only has one in mind.
Saint Beckham Carter.
She got him and she thought that's it.
But then everything started falling apart.
She did the only thing she could. She ran.
And now they found her.
And they aren't planning on letting her go.
And Saint is determined to drag her back to hell.

"This is your hell now, Ashtyn, and your life sentence starts today."

I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

"Sins in our world aren't forgiven, no matter how much time you spend on your knees."

Ashtyn was supposed to be Saints but then she ran away. That was her only option. Now Saint is on a war path and wants to get Ashtyn back. And nothing will stop him. Not even Ashtyn. He's going to drag her back to hell if it's the last thing he does.

"Oh, Ashtyn, the things I'm going to do to you will make you beg the devil himself to come and take you away from me."

OK. This is one of my most anticipated (if not my most anticipated) book of the year. I have been accumulating bread crumbs from Sabotage, The Ritual, The Sinner, and The Sacrifice and even all of the information I got from those books could not have prepared my for the absolute BOMBSHELL that was this book. I swear the minute I think I know what's going on, Shantel Tessier says "nope not happening" and hits me with a side hook (which I love and am obsessed with).

"We've all been raised not to fear death. It's what you do with your life that should terrify you. Once you're dead, you'll no longer give a fuck about anything. But being alive? That's a rush."

First we have Saint Beckham Carter. Who is a Shantel Tessier written man. Explanation? He is that guy. The minute he first showed up I was intrigued but in this book I am straight up OBSESSED. The protectiveness, the dedication to his craft, the words that come out of his mouth…. I'm just saying he belongs in the club with Sin, Ryat, and Tyson and omggg… He is the moment ok? He is. Ashtyn really shouldn't have run…

"She may not have a choice at how her life turned out, but she chose me. And I'm going to spend the rest of my life reminding her that no other man could ever come close to what she needs. Even if that means I have to keep her tied to my bed twenty-four seven."

And we have Ashtyn Lake Price. She is dirty ok? And we love that!!!

"Some women want roses and diamonds, candlelit dinners and I love yous. Not me. I want to be choked and told I look pretty with your cum covering my face." (ICONIC)

Saint can give her exactly what she wants and needs and she knows that too!! I mean the chemistry between her and Saint was EVERYTHING!! It was so good!! And I loved her connection with the brothers also, it warmed my heart… And those scenes were everything!!!

"I want to tie her up out here for all to see and offer her to him. My terms. My way. I want to see her beg me to let him get her off."

"I want someone who I know will fight for me. Even if they have to cheat to win. And that's exactly what a Lord is raised to do - fight. It's in their blood. All they know."

Now, Shantel Tessier has her playlist for the Spade Brothers which I loved so much and I encourage you to go check it out, but this is my playlist for the book. These are the vibes it gave (and it includes the playlist in the book itself so yay!!):

"Evil will always outshine the good because it will do whatever it takes in order to survive."

I’m so glad I’m not alone here in saying this book was good and the smut was great but man it had me confused af and had so much more potential.

I keep going over things in my head and I’m so confused about so much so prepare for some yappin.

The beginning was so perfect that it made me sad to read the end and see how messy it was. I had so much banking on a good second half to finally answer the questions that started to build from the previous books. I LOVE these books so much and I was so looking forward to this one and the end left me feeling unsatisfied sadly.

I feel like we needed a good long monologue from Ash to Saint. I get she felt trapped when she shot him and left but like she really did them dirty and of course in part 2 once she is kidnapped and in harms way all the past issues just seem to disappear with no real communication involved (this feels like a common theme in some of these types of books). I mean I get Saint is harsh but we were expecting that from the Carnage men, but she also just up and shot HER HUSBAND. Didn’t even care if it killed him or not, I would have at least thought she would aim for a leg to just give her time to get away (she knew she had help and a new identity waiting for her).

So many messed up feelings from the characters in this book. These books are depraved and I love that but all the others work so well because the love is clear throughout almost the whole time, where with this one I couldn’t understand the motive of Ash and whether she truly loved saint or didn’t at times. We didn’t get to see much of the love interactions, more straight depraved smut (not complaining ;)) but it did leave some holes for me considering she was scared he might throw her to the side because someone else knocked her up, so she just shot him and ran. Then was happy on her own basically (except in bed). THEN you find out she was actually married to Saint that whole time and they shared this heartwarming moment before she ran after the whole branding situation in the cathedral?? Like girl what?

Who else was shocked by that by the way? That they just happened to be married?? I didn’t know what he was talking about when he would say Wife earlier in the second half and she had a ring on in Vegas. Like Wdym wife? Do the vows mean marriage in the spade brothers world or did they actually get married?? And then you find out that oh yeah they did get married actually…surprise! Yet somehow Ash still felt like Saint was going to find ANOTHER wife and kick her to the curb because she was raped? She also knew to an extent that HE knew she was raped because she found out “he cheated the lords” so girl just go talk to him don’t shoot him and run (this is where I think Shantel was stretching to create this new book and yes I understand lack of communication can make for a better storyline but still). So Ash, you definitely owe him an apology and an explanation of your feelings now that this is all over and this man never stopped looking for you while you had an apartment with another dude. (would have loved to have seen this play out in the first epilogue. A “1 week/month later” situation. Where they both explain their time apart and she gets treated for her trauma and injuries from her time away, and then it ends with them finally having sex again and trying for a family). The Lords books always have that all or nothing depraved loved for one another aspect to them and I LOVE THAT and this one fell flat due to communication issues and writing (not the actual feelings from the characters I don’t think, it just wasn’t elaborated on enough from Ash’s POV)

And what is up with Adam and Haidyn?? How did Adam just bring him back to life? Did they plan the whole thing all the way back to when they hit the SUV Haidyn and Ash were in? Like that part was so confusing and so convenient? How did they bring a man back from the dead like that? Really really hoping we get some more info in Haidyns book because I am so confused.

And like who were those masked people she found dead when she was wandering around right before she left Saint in part 1? And why would the guards ever think she killed them and blame her? Confused again!

Add on: did we ever find out why Benny is important? Was he part of the team that helped the lady “train” the spade brothers after Ash left? I remember them noting how he knew where everything in carnage was and he had a way in somehow. So I’m guessing he is connected to it in a way? Maybe he was a masked person who helped train them and ended up following Ash somehow?

So distraught over the ending. Feels like Shantel didn’t plan on this story unraveling until her other books got popular so she had to jump through hoops to make it all seem like it works and it sadly doesn’t. (In the previous books what Ash has done is made to be some life shattering crazy terrible unforgivable event and I feel like it’s hard to write that in a story where it all comes together in a happy ending. It’s possible but difficult and it wasn’t achieved here sadly)

My last note: this would have read really well as a reverse harem if it wanted to be. I would have loved to have seen the true chemistry between these characters. Sadly I think it was a true option but there was an opportunity for more books so Shantel is going that route. (Which I understand as well).

Seriously?!?!?! Wtff was this book? I have really loved and enjoyed all the other books of the L.O.R.D.S series but this book was pathetic. The author, in her quest to put in too many twists and turns , instead of making the book intriguing, it turned the book pathetically complicated. No Miss tessier, the book wasn’t mysterious , it was outright boring. I mean… ATLEAST write a plot which is understandable?!?!?!? All the characters, the conversations, the interconnected situations, NOTHING WAS GOOD… sorry but I am sorely disappointed.
DIDNT LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL. Please don’t try to make ur book too complex when u dunno how to make the story interesting and rather end up butchering the whole plot :)
And the book was so lengthy my lord….I was just waiting to finish the book cuz I didn’t wanna DNF it. I literally had to drag my ass and force myself to read this boring story and the boring events to get to the end and sure enough, what a massive disappointment.

DNF @ 39% *possible spoilers ahead*

Where do I even begin with this? I can’t believe I’m in the minority that didn’t enjoy this in the slightest despite this being one of my most anticipated books and already having a major soft spot for the Spade Brothers from their appearances in the last books. Well, I was deceived, bamboozled.

Let’s start with my biggest peeve and the nail in the coffin of why I gave up on this book - the mandatory nickname the MC gives the FMC that was shoved in our face every single sentence, every single time he spoke to her - “sweetheart”. This is sexy and endearing WHEN IT IS USED A FEW TIMES whether it be sarcastically or as a comfort, not when it is used to finish every single spoken sentence like he can’t just say her actual name. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s every page, almost every sentence, it’s too much and becomes too try-hard. Just made this man seem meh.

Second, I did not believe the connection. He saw her at a party in a bathing suit, demanded her be his Lady and within a few chapters was telling her he loves her. GIVE OVER LMAO. There was 0 build up, 0 emotional connection, he liked her body and face. Neither of them has an ounce of personality.

Thirdly, this is the absolute worst FMC of any book I’ve ever read. 0 personality outside of her dream and ambition in life which is… have a guess… it’s being used. That’s it. It’s her ultimate dream and boy don’t we know it seems as it’s the only thing that ever comes out of her mouth. At one point, her mother is slaughtered in front of her, she is held hostage and tormented, then taken to Carnage where she’s petrified, put into a painful straight jacket, tied to a stretcher naked below her waist after been choked out, then brought to a room where evil men can watch her be branded and the whole time she’s horny, wet and trying to clamp her thighs together and doesn’t want it to stop 😀 I- That’s all I can possibly say about her, there is nothing else to say.

Fourthly, the smut was repetitive and quite frankly ridiculous. The FMC is a virgin yet she’s a sex addict yet her mother doesn’t want her to like sex or porn so the MC breaks in, ties her to the bed and forces her to have endless orgasms for 5 days straight to “train her mind” LMFAOOOO PLEAAAAASSSEEEEEE.

Fifthly, the anticipated Spade Brothers. Brutal? Savage? Insane? Unhinged? No. They are carbon copies of the other Lord’s in the other books, copy and paste if not worse. They’re boring and they’re cringe. The other two spade brothers have their own chosen’s yet for reasons that are not ever once mentioned, they love this FMC is out of blue and remember when we said we hate forced/constant nicknames? Well what do you know it, the other 2 brothers have their own nicknames for her - “babygirl” and “sweet cheeks” 😭🤣😭🤣 how cute and not at all cringe or generic 🥰

This book is beyond terrible and I don’t think any book for the next 3 years will disappoint me the way this one has.

ఌ︎ Modesty is something you'll learn to get over, sweetheart.
ఌ︎ There is no god here, sweetheart. Make no mistakes, you will kneel for me, but the things I have planned for you are anything but holy.
ఌ︎ It's a game of lose-lose. I mean, love is like anything else- temporary. People fall in and out of love just as easily as people pass away. You just wake up one day and no longer feel anything for them.
ఌ︎ She'll be burried here in the cemetery, next to me, where we'll remain together forever just like we said that day in the cathedral when she became mine. We took vows, and I took them very seriously, even if she thought they were a joke.
ఌ︎ Training my sweetheart was always fun, this time it wont be any different.
ఌ︎ I remind my wife that she belongs to me, and I to her.
ఌ︎ Ashtyn Lane Price, I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you all my life. This is me, a Lord, asking you to be my Lady. Will you marry me, sweetheart. (deadass was prob only one of the few very wholesome scenes in this book).

Carnage is the hellish prison where Lords who displease the society spend their remaining days at the mercy of the Spade brothers.

Ashtyn Price has been in love with Saint Carter for as long as she can recall. Sometimes life gives you everything you’ve ever desired. Sometimes your desires have unseen strings attached.

I think I’ve days this with every L.O.R.D.S. book so far, but it was a mìndfcuk with unpredictable twists. My emotions were all over the map and I’m in awe of the way Shantel is able to continue creating such new and complex characters and storylines within the world. In case it’s not clear, I freaking loved Saint and Ash (and Kash and Haidyn)!

so bad

This storyline is so poorly written, nearly impossible to follow and I wish I DNF’d at 40% to save myself the time and disappointment. If you want to read a story that makes sense and has a FMC that isn’t annoying AF find a different book. Yikes.

Edit: I’m not even going to be able to read the other Spade brother’s books knowing what they did with Ashtyn like no thank you 🥴 the whole point of book boyfriends/ husbands is that they’re better than real life men and these guys are so much worse🤮And what in the actual fuck is with Shantel and dads watching their daughters get fucked? It’s not kinky, it’s not dark it’s just gross and weird. At this point, the book was stomach turning. I couldn’t eat while reading this book because every other page is describing Ashtyn’s butthole and the “spice” was just really disgusting, this author really needs to learn that there is a tasteful way to write spice and this whole book completely missed the mark. Not only is it so repetitive but what she describes sounds awful and like something I would never want to experience. Ashtyn wants so badly to be “used” yet she’s crying about it and it doesn’t even touch on whether they’re in love or not so what exactly is she enjoying about this? This book makes no damn sense, I felt like I read a whole smut book about all the things a man could do to make sex totally unenjoyable. I cringed and rolled my eyes almost every page and the only reason I finished is because I liked the previous books in the series. This book made me never want to read another Shantel Tessier book ever again because it was so repulsive and disgusting, that takes a lot for ME to say. I’m over the LORDS series and will not be continuing with the following spade brother books.
Also Miss Shantel, please stop trying to make “I Vow you vow we vow” a thing because it reminds me of SpongeBob or something. Shit is so stupid.

So far, I am on chapter 17. I’ve always loved this series and this author. This has been my most anticipated read. However, this book is giving me the biggest ick. I am so beyond disappointed in this one which makes me so sad to say because some of my favorite reads are by Shantel. The spice in this is honestly gross so far, I loved the spice in The Ritual and especially in The Sacrifice, but this? It honestly makes me stomach turn. The FMC’s whole personality is wanting to be a wh0re…that’s it. She has no sustenance or personality. The MMC even has no personality, Shantel hyped up the spade brothers so hard like they were going to be absolutely unhinged and all I’m getting is a dollar tree version of the other Lords, just bad quality…generic. This literally feels like someone wrote an off brand book of the Lords series. The spice is so poorly written and gross that i literally skim over it and im trying to focus on when the plot starts….the plot….I am more focused on the plot than spice in a Shantel Tessier book, that is a new low. The amount of times Ashtyn says the word “please” like a dumb little airhead is painful. The things her and Saint say and do through the whole book so far is disgustingly repetitive and im waiting for something good to happen whether it be the plot or between them I don’t care i just want something interesting to come, there was no burn between the two of them so why they even are infatuated with each other still has yet to be made sense of. I hate the entire thing so far but I’m not giving up because I love this series too much to not give this book a chance. I will update my review once I finish it but so far, it’s an absolute no from me.

"Don’t get me wrong, I hate the bitch, but I also love her in that I’m going to rip your heart out and hang it on my wall so no one else can have it kind of way." THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES FOR LIFE... We love a possessive man, ok? 👏👏👏

My brain is still processing honestly... 🤯

I was so excited to get to know the Spade Brothers and let me just say... I was NOT disappointed. The way my brain was working overtime during this entire book is no joke. All the twists!!!

Without saying too much... I am 100% ready for the next book- like now.

Highlights:
"Ashtyn Lane Price belongs to me. She just doesn’t know it yet. But she will, very soon. And once I make her mine, the world will know it too."

“I never want to exist in a world without you in it, sweetheart.”

“This is your hell now, Ashtyn, and your life sentence starts today.”

All the reasons to pass on this book:

Hero shares heroine with his buddies. But don’t worry guys, it’s “just” her ass and mouth. He keeps her vajayjay for himself. Becuse nothing says love like being passed around to be used like a dirty gym sock by a bunch of loser men. And nothing melts the heart more than a hero who is possessive and protective of his woman—oh wait! This hero doesn’t know the meaning of protective or possessive, as he lets other men rut her—but only in certain parts of her.

Hero cheats. But, are we really surprised? The guy lets other dudes take a turn on his girl. Do we actually expect him to have any self-control or love for the heroine that would keep his dick outta other skanks?

Heroine is a skank with no self-respect, no honor, no virtue and no sense. She is not faithful during separation and pretty much spreads her legs and lets any horny loser relieve his balls into her. She’s a walking std-trap and low IQ women will applaud like the mindless morons they are and call this “empowering.”

Yet another fucked up author with all the romantic sensibilities of a meth whore

Not for me

I guess I’m the odd one out, I absolutely love this series, but carnage just did not do it for me. I’m all about dark and possessive but that wasn’t who Saint was. The fact that he shared her while also “claiming” she was his… nah
In my opinion if the H is going to be possessive, he shouldn’t share it just doesn’t fit the character description. I never felt a connection between Saint and Ash. I also had a hard time with the full description of her being raped repeatedly by different men.

I would definitely recommend the series however carnage just didn’t do it for me.

i knew from the get go, i just had a feeling, and i was RIGHT. with the book announcement, blurb, and teasers, i was finna enjoy this book & i did.

only critique, the whole sharing thang which I don’t mind, but at this point bitch just write a damn reverse harem/why choose. clearly you’re more into it than us. also omg i just love Haidyn, ugh he can be husband 2.0 beside Saint, Haidyn was actually supposed to be the heroine's lord. da only thang i feel erk about is how they label the tropes and stated heroine is a virgin... bitch, pls she thought she was and so did i, so i def feel lied to. LOL! just read the damn book to know what I mean.

Look, I'm not a wimp, okay!

I love dark romance. It just so happens these series of books all have the ONE trigger i have, and i hate!

Women being physically tortured, and dying/getting killed on page. Especially when it's happening by the hand of the MMC i'm supposed to find desirable and root for.

Violence against women is already triggering when it's done by the villains, and most of the time I don't ever find it triggering, as long as the villain is punished harshly, but I cannot quite wrap my head around it when the romantic hero or the romantic heroine are the ones committing that violence lol.

I can't.

And no, it doesn’t matter what the women they're killing/torturing/slapping/ have done. She could be the worst human being on Earth, i wouldn’t want to read mmc or fmc hurting/killing her.

I may be unique in this, I don't care.

I hope this isn't a trend that keeps happening in romance books, cause that would suck for me...

Also this fmc witnessed her mother's graphic murder and is taken to get painfully held and down and branded and all she can think about is... how horny she is...?

Um... at some point, suspense of disbelief can only take us so far.

Saint Beckham Carter ladies and gentleman. Saint and Ash have always been obsessed with each other. Ash always knew she would be a Spade brother’s chosen and wanted it to be Saint. She got her wish and things were perfect for a while as Saint conditionally shared her with his brothers, but then things quickly went to shit and she ran. After they both go through four years of hell, Ash is back at Carnage and Saint is ready to get revenge.

Yes this is technically a standalone but the way the storylines and characters from all the books intertwine is incredibly well done! The spice is excellent and has all my favorite kinks.

✨ Part 1 Thoughts While Reading: but as vague as possible to avoid spoilers
🖤 Saint has a Jacob’s ladder and a magic cross piercing, count me in.
🖤 I don’t understand her mother’s motives for therapy or literally anything else. And if it was just to make sure she stays a virgin then why continue therapy after the vow ceremony?
🖤 Ash having to bleed is such a stupid requirement. You can’t medically check if her virginity is in tact you absolute freaks.
🖤 Lollipop lollipop. Oh lolli lolli lolli lollipop.
🖤 This “therapist” is the actual worst. Why is she allowed at Carnage?
🖤 Ugh, can the dads retire already, they suck. I think the best parent in this whole series is Elli’s dad and he was gone for most of her life.
🖤 Who did she tell about her test results?
🖤 And who is helping her?
🖤 I understand the reason for leaving but damn girl not cool.
🖤 How did Saint break his oath? Wait did they secretly get married? Would that break the oath? That couldn’t be it right, Ryat got married when Blake was still his chosen? I’m so confused.
🖤 Who is this bitch?

✨ Part 2 (Four years later):
🖤 Yes please to mystery masked men.
🖤 I love seeing more of Ryat, Sin, and Tyson. It’s nice that the girls can confide in each other, I can only imagine what their future group text is like.
🖤 I stand by my opinion that Tyson’s tracker in the tooth idea is the best idea.
🖤 Wait what, so that’s why twins are so
common here??
🖤 Literally everyone needs to talk to each other more. But who am I judge, I tell my secrets to almost no one. And with as justifiably angry as everyone is since no one has all the facts, you’d never get me to talk so I get it.
🖤 With that, does Ash ever learn the specifics of what the boys “training” entailed after she left?
🖤 Let the record show that Tyson is still my favorite but I LOVED Saint and I can’t want for Kashton and Haidyn’s books. But I’m still mad at one of the boys, you know what you did and for now I don’t forgive you (your nonsense was NOT justified).

✨ Quotes:
🖤 I’m a man obsessed with a woman I haven’t been able to have. Some would call it creepy or pathetic. I call it devoted. ~ Saint.
🖤 She doesn’t have to love me. I don’t need that kind of acceptance from her. I know that makes me a bastard. The villain in her story. It sounds like I’m heartless and cold. And I might be, I sure as fuck don’t care. ~ Saint.
🖤 Some women want roses and diamonds, candlelit dinners and I love yous. Not me. I want to be choked and told I look pretty with your cum covering my face. ~ Ash.
🖤 “This is your hell now, Ashtyn, and your life sentence starts today.” ~ Saint.
🖤 I did what I did and now I must pay for that decision. Being his prisoner sounds better than being without him. ~ Ash.

✨ Thank you so much Shantel for letting be be on your Street Team and ARC read Carnage!

actually sad about this one.... i anticipated something completely different when i imagined the spade brothers..

also why does this author feel the need to reference every single thing that happened in every other book before this ew... yet it says 'standalone' lmao

100% would not consider this a series of standalone books, def need to be read in order!!

unpopular opinion: i didn't like this book. I found it to be super redundant or focused more on sex then an actual plot. Yes i have read the authors books, so i know smut is a primary plot line of her books. But this book seems like all that it is..

I felt like there wasnt a reason for part one since once Ash is back at Carnage, its part one all over again. Saint sneaking in and doing things to her while sleeping, or degrading her at ever turn. By no means am i shamming it because some girls love it.. I just need a plot at some point, and at 70% i didn't feel like a plot has been established yet. There may have had a sprinkle here and there, but nothing major. There is no reason that this book had to be 600+ pages.. easily could have removed part one and have a few chapters explaining their relationship.

I did like the fact that a lot of characters from other books make an appearance in the book. Not only past LORDS but also the KINGS, tbh it made me want to go back and read BONES. Now that was a series that I devoured.

I did sadly DNF the book at 70% since i found myself skipping most of what I was reading. I just got bored of the book and most of the spicy chapters were already done previously.. The book and writing itself isnt bad, which is why i gave the book 3 stars.. but it just wasn't for me.
