Crystal Grid Handbook by Judy Hall had strengths and weaknesses.

First, I found the use of actual crystals instead of illustrations beautiful and helpful. You get to experience that each crystal is unique, and as we learn in this book, sometimes the flaws in crystals actually make them more helpful in your crystal practice. I also found the use of repeated images helpful, as it allows you to see the use of the same grid for multiple purposes.

The book breaks down the meaning and importance of the crystals and the grids. While there are so many stones that it would be impossible to fit them all into this book, I found the selection of stones lacked a great selection. There was just a fraction listed and only in short detail. With that said, this book is meant to focus on grids. So, I feel if you have moved on to grids, you probably own a crystal book or two you already love and use. I also found the selection, even though limited, was a great mix of very common crystals as well as some very unique ones that I have not seen mentioned in other books.

The book also covers something I have not seen others touch on, which I really appreciated, the shapes and structures internally and externally of crystals and how those play a factor. Again, I think this is better for someone who is a little more experience, but none the less good information to have.

The book finishes up with simple and more advanced grids. While the designs themselves are not very complicated, the set up time would be longer on the advanced grids. I love all the geometric shapes. There is a lot of information and time give to each grid, which is nice.

I would not recommend this as someone’s very first crystal book. I feel you should really get to learn about crystals and the many, many ways you can cleanse them, and all the other steps that go into that. However, I think when you have a good basic knowledge down and are ready to move on to crystal grids, this is a book to consider. I appreciated that this book really stuck to the subject matter listed in the title, but as I have mentioned countless times, I am glad I found this book further along in my research.

For a new person I would rate this book around a 2 or 2.5 as I think they would find it very confusing. For someone like me, who has more background knowledge, I would give it at least a 4.

I received an eARC from Quarto Publishing Group and Fair Winds Press through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

This review originally appeared on The Magical Buffet's website on 01/04/2021.

It is no secret that I’m a lady that loves crystals. If you are like me, you’re probably familiar with Judy Hall. She’s easily one of the most recognizable authorities of all things crystal. When offered the opportunity to review her book “Crystal Grids Handbook: Use the Power of the Stones for Healing and Manifestation” I could not refuse.

To be honest, although always finding them attractive, I never understood the purpose of crystal grids. Obviously, Hall does an excellent job of breaking it down for me. The first line of the book is, “Crystal grids synthesize powerful crystal vibrations and sacred geometric energy.” She starts by providing an excellent description of sacred geometry and a basic guide to shapes and their potential meanings. Then she explores the power of color, different types of crystal formations, and the different shapes crystals come in. There is also a prerequisite section about the care and keeping of crystals.

After that is a wonderful step by step roadmap to creating your own crystal grid from the ground up (pun not intended). Hall’s guidance allows for you to create as simple or complex grid as desired. Better still, there are LOADS of FULL COLOR photos of different crystals and crystal grids.

After reading “Crystal Grids Handbook” not only do I understand crystal grids, but I also feel like I could competently construct one. Judy Hall’s “Crystal Grids Handbook” is the only book on the subject you will ever need.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley.

I enjoyed reading this book more than I thought I would. The author explains very well several types of grids (some simpler and others more complex), different types of crystals and how to use, recharge and cleanse them. It honestly is a very interesting book (especially to all the astrology lovers). I just wished it was longer. Rating: 4/5 stars.

Very in depth & grounded for a metaphysics book. Almost 4 stars because it’s short, but that isn’t fair because the content in it is all on the money - except for one line I took issue with.

Pros:
* Thorough & articulate explanation of the theory/ideology behind crystal magick and grids, presented in a surprisingly rational, thoughtful & methodical way.
* Lush, full color photos demonstrate each concept clearly.
* DIY recipes
* Splendid crash course in sacred geometry

Cons:
* Not a comprehensive reference guide to crystals in terms of describing a vast array of ‘species’. There’s a li’l baby glossary at the back with a handful of her favs. However - she does, *quite* remarkably teach you to fish, so to speak, by discussing crystal types in a broadstroke, geologically astute way & explaining their different energetic matrixes. Yeah, I said it. Energetic matrixes. Fight me! 😜
* One brief instance of Christian ideology attributed (perhaps unknowingly) to an ancient symbol predating Abrahamic religion - the hexagram, now known as the Star of David in equilateral form - which was thus named as late as the 13th century and coopted for the Zionist movement by the Rothchilds themselves (thus later associated with contemporary Judaism), so not even super old as a Jewish symbol. Anyway, Kabbalistic/otherwise Judaism as all well & good as far as I’m concerned, Rothchilds probably pretty sleazy, but whatever. My only issue with this is the modern attribution of that symbol to more recent Abrahamic interpretations of god, which are a sort of bastardization of older Babylonian & Egyptian traditions. Easy oversight in these kinds of books, but Judy Hall is good, so it stuck out like a sore thumb. The idea - that the six points represent the six aspects of god - was probably just tossed in as a neat bit of religious lore for funzies/ food for thought, but personally, the idea that the 6 faces of god would be “power, wisdom, mercy, love, justice, and majesty” feels very Pentecostal bible camp to me - which is to say, very new, very anthropocentric & whitewashed. Mercy? God? Hahaha
I don’t know, maybe it’s not that bad, and it’s not like the language of symbols can’t evolve & resonate with new developments in meaning, but I think really it’s just the specificity of humans assigning traits to whatever some omnipotent invisible energy of creation & destruction might be that sticks in my craw & smacks of religious arrogance. Whereas the rest of this book feels very modest but determined in its efforts to taxonomize vibes in an intuitive but useful, actionable way.

The whole field of metaphysics can be super squirrelly & whimsical - or cynically commercial-, but this book neither presumes to overexplain nor rationalize the ineffable based on wild conjecture, rather it tries to apply practical principles to the extent available and offer sound experimental measures to take in the pursuit of greater clarity & balance of a shamanic sort. I mean, you’re either vibing with that or not; Judy Hall’s not going to win over Dawkins any time soon…but for the witchy world, she’s the patron saint of minerals, a true OG. If that’s your thang, check this out.

I know there are some serious, academic, likely die-hard rational materialist comrades following these reviews whose profundity & genius I immensely appreciate & whose disappointed head-shaking probably unfairly bums me out. It makes me reluctant to publicly concede to the less than fashionable realm of spirituality outside of ‘hip’ white collar liberal things like “Eastern Philosophy”, but not lacking self awareness, this morning went full YOLO. Hall wrote a killer book that fell into my clutches & it deserves a good review.

From one stern, studious neodruid to another: keep up the good work, chica. ❤️It’s the best in its class.

Before reading this book, I didn't have any knowledge of crystal grids. But I recently purchased some healing crystals and wanted to know more about how to use them. This handbook is a detailed introduction on how to use crystals in specific grids, patterns, and shapes in order to get the most benefit from them. The text is super descriptive and the photographs that go along with the text are colorful and fun to look at. My only complaint is that I still feel like I wouldn't know exactly where to start when setting up grids (especially because the author offers that you need to listen to your intuition in order to know which crystals and which patterns 'speak to you.') However, if readers are just interested in getting some background info on crystals, there's still a lot of helpful information to be gleaned from the book. If readers want more information they might need to speak to a psychic or energy healer for more detailed guidance.

Before receiving this book, I knew about Crystal grids but I wasn’t sure how to do them, where to start or how to get the best out of the crystals I have. Crystal Grids Handbook has definitely helped me gain a lot more knowledge.

It’s full of grids from beginner grids, to more advanced grids and even specific ones eg career, joy and mental clarity. It even touches on what different colours crystals mean and how to use them.

The pictures are clear and the instructions are easy to understand and follow. This is definitely a book I will keep coming back to and I can’t wait to try my first grid.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review

This is a perfect guide for someone interested in checking out crystal grids without investing too much research or money into it. The book manages to present just enough information to make the grids make sense, as well as some basic color and crystal details to allow you to dabble with different options. If you're looking for a basic handbook on the creation and use of crystal grids, this is it.

A fascinating book, this is not something I had ever heard of before. It’s really interesting that it relates to chakra’s too. I liked the way the book was set out and really easy to read and follow. Another book that I will want to re-read as it really is fascinating.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

This book is full of really great information. Unfortunately the awful photographs really detract from the text, especially the hideous dark brown laminate surface used in many of the photos. If the photos were styled to show off the beauty of the crystals and grids it would be a 5 star book.

I received a free digital copy via NetGalley, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐

I started this book with very little knowledge of crystal grids and how they worked. Overall, it was a good introductory guide to crystal grids. However, I wouldn't exactly recommend the crystal grid "prescriptions" she gives (for lack of better words) as many of these issues cannot be addressed with crystals. It was worth the low price I got it at.

I find that I am drawn to beautiful grids and spreads on Instagram and yet I never know how to create them myself. This book helped. It shares insightful knowledge of crystals and how they work together and in grids. As usual Judy Hall is on top of her game.

I do not love the format and photos with people in this book. I did really enjoy the photos of flat grids and information on crystals. It was great to learn a bit more on something I previously wasn't familiar with. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital review copy.

So few books spend alot of time on crystal grids. It was exciting to come across this amazing book, on different crystal grids, their uses and how some these grids can be paired with Reiki healing and other such uses. Loved this book so much, I ordered myself a personal copy.

An introduction to grids, not throw you in like you already know the placement of crystals. It is more visual which is great. Examples of grids talked about.

*I received a digital review copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review - thank you to the publisher *

This is an in depth guide to crystal grids, ideally suited to someone who is already familiar with Crystal work. It is an ideal follow up companion to Judy’s other titles, including The Crystal Bible and The Encyclopaedia of Crystals. I wouldn’t recommend to Crystal novices but will recommend to those already working with Crystal energies.
