Ocean Wave Data Analysis: Introduction to Time Series Analysis, Signal Processing, and Wave Prediction

This textbook helps readers to better understand the process involved in the ocean wave measurement, analysis, and prediction. Ocean wave studies mostly require some sort of time series analysis. To achieve that, a time series of the wave data are commonly analyzed and processed in one of the time or frequency domain. The outcome of this analysis helps to calculate wave properties representing a wave dataset and can provide a comprehensive perspective of the wave field. In this book, readers are walked through steps that are required for the ocean wave data analysis. This book covers concepts and theories of the time series analysis, signal processing, and ocean wave prediction in a simple language. This text explains how to implement these theories for a purpose of the ocean wave data analysis. This book is prepared with a practical application in mind. The first section of this book provides an introduction to data analysis in the time and frequency domains. The second section of this text focuses on how to analyze measured wave data. The third section the book describes how to predict, estimate, and model ocean waves. Codes written in MATLAB, GNU Octave, and Python are provided throughout the book to calculate different wave properties.
