Avoid e-waste and recycle devices

Five tons. That's how much electronic waste igus produces every year. Many of those devices are still functional. But they are all at least four years old, so they are discarded. Isn't there somewhere for them to be used?That is the question IT trainees posed at the end of 2019. Since then, all IT and business trainees have been working on a concept to prevent devices from becoming electronic waste. The idea, paired with the motto "reduce, reuse, recycle" and combined with the affiliation with igus results in reguse.

reguse® is made up of the IT trainees, who refurbish the technology, and the commercial trainees, who take care of sales, accounting and legal issues, marketing and presentation. Reducing the electrical waste that igus® produces is part of the core idea of the project. Devices such as notebooks, computers, TVs and much more are reconditioned using a data protection-compliant process.
The used devices are refurbished and thus saved from being scrapped as electronic waste. Working parts are even removed from defective appliances and recycled, so that a new, functioning appliance is created from several old ones.

Favourable technical equipment for igus employees
reguse® offers all igus employees from Cologne the opportunity to purchase refurbished technical equipment at a favourable price. However, the proceeds from these sales do not end up at reguse, but are donated to sustainable projects.

Donations of refurbished devices

The reconditioned devices are not only sold internally by igus, but are also donated to people and organisations in need.
The coronavirus pandemic has led to a high demand for end devices, mainly from schoolchildren. So, reguse donated ten laptops to a school, equipping ten pupils with technology - even before the department had officially started working.A donation of 60 PCs and 60 monitors went to a school in Idar-Oberstein in June 2022 to support digitalisation.
In the summer of 2023, reguse was able to supply a holiday camp for socially disadvantaged children with new devices and accessories, helping to promote their technology and media skills.
