Commentaire à la une
My hopes of getting a good, or at least watchable movie, are so frequently shattered when sitting through porn and indie product, I sometimes feel like Sisyphus rolling that rock up the hill over and over. Such was the case in catching Shaun Costello's almost famous JOE ROCK SUPERSTAR, another half-baked (or not- baked) clunker from his stable of not-so-goodies.
There was a germ of an idea here, which goes absolutely nowhere. Marc Stevens with heavy eye makeup is suitable visually as an imitation of the glam-rock stars of whom David Bowie and much later Billy Idol reigned. But he does nothing with the assignment, which is yet another porn essay on the limp dick syndrome. In a very poor stage performance leading a band including Costello on guitar and Jamie Gillis on drums, he swings his dick around on stage but the fans hate it - he can't get hard.
This dumb gag is run into the ground, with some femmes to the rescue during a short but unsweet attempt at porn. Tina Russell as the fluffer is attractive as always, mainly servicing Costello himself backstage. Key subplot, milked for all it isn't worth, has Ultramax in a crummy wig as Marc's mom, who "cures" him with incestuous sex, much to the delight of the rest of the entourage, after Marc pleads with her: "Make me big, mom".
The title character is actually named Joe Cock, and I would have enjoyed an amateur night imitation of the great Joe Cocker (RIP), but Stevens and Costello provide nothing tangible, just another insulting case of horsing around and amusing themselves. If they had been stand-up comics (successful ones I mean) rather than porn denizens, a lengthy period of wood-shedding would have been prescribed before foisting this level of material on the public.
