When we shut down Central Park South and made it snow for
Love Affair (1994), we
had this huge scene in front of the Essex House - all these cars. We
had to stop traffic. And this gentleman would stand there and with
great affection say, "Action!" And everybody would move. And we'd say,
"No, no, no, that's not the director! That's the director." This
happened take after take. Apparently this guy is homeless and somewhat
eccentric, but he really enjoys being on movie sets. I'm told he showed
up on
The Paper (1994), Ronnie Howard's movie. Pretty much if you film anywhere
in New York, this guy shows up and yells, "Action! Cut!" and critiques
the work. I'm hoping he can pull the $7 together to see the movie and
assess his contribution.
