Stuart died almost immediately of the bullets, but Ironside spreads the false news, through media, that Stuart is still alive, but kept in a secret and guarded place at the hospital. To increase the pressure on Trask, he arrests the other leaders of the syndicate, thus giving the impression that Stuart has woken up and started to talk.
