Taylor Sheridan took Hollywood by surprise when “Yellowstone” quietly became one of the biggest TV hits of the last decade. The monster success of that show even convinced Paramount to reverse course on a plan to turn Paramount Network, where the neo-Western airs, into a movies-only channel.
But no one is surprised now, as Sheridan has since created a sprawling TV empire for the studio centered on Paramount+. Alongside “Yellowstone” spinoffs “1883” and “1923,” the hit Sylvester Stallone drama “Tulsa King,” Jeremy Renner’s small town noir series “Mayor of Kingstown,” the biographical drama “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” starring David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid, “Special Ops: Lioness” with Zoe Saldaña and “Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton prove Sheridan is no flash in the pan.

March 17, 1951 was a great day in history, because that’s the day Kurt Vogel Russell entered the world. And while he would go on to become one of the biggest icons of the eighties and nineties, many folks don’t know that Russell started as a child star for The Walt Disney Company, even acting opposite his future life partner Goldie Hawn in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968) – although they wouldn’t get together until Russell ended up in another movie starring Goldie Hawn, Swing Shift (1984). From the sixties into the seventies, he starred in Disney flicks like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), but as the studio’s movies started to flop and Russell got older, a change of pace was needed. Arguably, Russell’s career took off when he began working with director John Carpenter, with the first movie being 1979’s TV movie Elvis, but what...

Forget NCIS – turns out, the Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan had some undercover gigs that almost no one remembers. Before crafting ranch drama gold, Sheridan dabbled in crime-solving on CSI, and not just once but twice.

Before Taylor Sheridan became the king of cowboy dramas with Yellowstone and Tulsa King, he was busy solving crimes – on screen, at least.
In CSI: NY, he played Joel Banks in the episode Supply & Demand, while over on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, he appeared as Evan Peters in Secrets and Flies (via Slash Film). Two separate characters, with the same brooding intensity.

As quickly established in "Yellowstone," there's more to the Dutton ranch than herding cattle and breaking horses. Until his untimely death, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his family built an empire on endless corrupt deals, exploiting anyone who dared think they had a shot at overpowering one of the most powerful families in Montana. As a result, any wrongdoer who dared make the grave miscalculation of taking them on often got sent to a location kept off the map. This hidden secret was a private place for the Duttons and, more specifically, their right-hand man, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), for whenever an issue needed dealing with permanently.
This spot, known as the train station, was the final stop for those who crossed our favorite family, whether they liked it or not. Just as often as brawls in the bunkhouse explode in Taylor Sheridan's epic crime saga, visits were made to this haunting dumping ground,...

Like with any other job in the world, it's not unusual for television stars to move on and see if the grass is greener somewhere else. However, there are controversial actor exits that single handedly ruined popular TV shows and had everyone -- fans and network executives included -- freaking out about how they could recover from such massive blows. Spoiler alert: They don't. While the series often lurch along like the characters in a George A. Romero film (sometimes even for multiple seasons), the spark fizzles out, leaving weak remnants of what once was magical.
For instance, can anyone say that "Two and a Half Men" was better off without Charlie Sheen'? Sure, the sitcom tried to replace him with a big-name star in the form of Ashton Kutcher, but finding the laughter on this show from the ninth season onward required the help of a private investigator.

Matt Damon’s 2016 film Jason Bourne took a long time to happen, and while it performed well at the box office, the reviews had not been favorable. For a sequel as highly anticipated as this one, surely there’s something in it that at least made a lot of fans swoon.

Indeed, Damon finally did one thing in this film that he had been avoiding for the past couple of installments, and that was to display his ripped body. At the time, he felt it would be suitable to show off his build since it fits into the narrative.

On Sunday, the Motion Picture Sound Editors announced the winners of the Mpse Golden Reel Awards, and four of the five Oscar nominees for Best Sound came away victorious: Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot. The fifth Oscar nominee, A Complete Unknown, had two Golden Reel nominations, but didn't win.
Dune claimed top honors for effects/foley. Wicked was awarded for music editing. The Wild Robot had the best sound editing for animation. And Emilia Pérez won the award for international features. Surprisingly, the dialogue/Adr prize went to Saturday Night, which ranked fifth in Gold Derby's odds, with only one user predicting that result.

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and tragedy befalling the Dutton family in the "Yellowstone" franchise. From Elsa (Isabel May) taking a poison arrow in "1883" to John (Kevin Costner) being assassinated in "Yellowstone" season 5, the clan's final moments are rarely ever peaceful. That said, will "1923" season 2 have a happy ending for all of the gang? The answer is, probably not.
Every so often, "Yellowstone" and its spin-offs drop clues about how certain stories will end. The most notable example is when "1883" gave away the "Yellowstone" season 5 ending, which was actually pretty feel-good in regard to this bloody franchise. However, Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) might not get the happy outcome she deserves, as she now finds herself alone and set to embark on the deadly adventure she teased in "1923" season 1.
Everyone wants Alexandra and Spencer Dutton to go the distance, but life doesn't always work out that way.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2’s tagline is, “generations of blood have led to this.” Indeed, Yellowstone and its two spinoff prequels, 1883 and 1923, have shown the Dutton family’s lives on the ranch dating back to when the family home was first built. 1883 shows how they came to Montana from Tennessee, 1923 shows them protecting the property through the difficulties of the Great Depression, and Yellowstone is the modern-day display of the slowly dying ranching way of life. 1923 Season 2’s premiere dropped on Sunday, February 23 on Paramount+, and it brought viewers one step closer to finding out who John Dutton II’s parents could be. We’ve compiled the many generations of Duttons in the graphic below to help you keep track of the family lineage while watching the Yellowstone TV universe. You’ll see that some characters, like John Dutton III’s (Kevin Costner) mother, don’t have photos or aren’t named.

This article contains spoilers for "1923" Season 2.
"1923" isn't an easy show to watch, especially when it comes to the persecution faced by its Native American characters at the hands of the authorities and the church. Season 1 focused on the horrific Native American abuse in boarding schools, resulting in Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) killing two sadistic nuns and going on the run. With Season 2 now underway, she finds herself being pursued by the authorities, led by the ruthless Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) and his deputies.
The second season's first episode, "The Killing Season," sees Kent venture into Comanche territory and demand to know the whereabouts of Rainwater. Desperate to get answers from the tribe, he grabs a little girl and points a gun at her head. Kent also seems more than happy to shed the blood of a child if it means completing the task at hand, which isn't surprising...

The years-long road that led to last week’s “SNL50” events was more than a complex programming campaign for NBCUniversal. It was a test of the company’s pipes.
The Feb. 14 “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,” held at Radio City Music Hall, and Feb. 16 “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” are pitch-perfect examples of the kind of distinctive live events that NBCU is counting on to deliver lucrative mass audiences amid the ever-increasing fragmentation of TV viewership.
Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes SNL50 Photos Below
As of Feb. 21, with a few days of delayed viewing and social activity factored in, the anniversary and concert specials, plus the Feb. 16 “SNL50 : The Red Carpet” telecast, have reached 220 million viewers with 3.9 billion minutes viewed across NBC, Peacock, digital and social, according to NBCU research.
The anniversary special, which ran nearly three and a half hours, has been seen by about 20 million viewers, with NBC accounting for about 16 million.

"Tombstone," from 1993, is the Wyatt Earp movie most people remember from the '90s, but it's hardly the only star-studded spectacle about the legendary marshal. A year later, "Wyatt Earp" came out, reuniting actor Kevin Costner with filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan, the director who first made him a charismatic cowboy in 1985's "Silverado." A love of the old west clearly stuck with Costner, who made his directorial debut with "Dances With Wolves," an epic about a Union Army Lieutenant (Costner) who goes native. If you haven't seen it, you've probably at least heard the plot of "Avatar" compared (unfavorably) to it. It won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and another for Costner as Best Director.
Covering more of Earp's life than just the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, "Wyatt Earp" came loaded with actors both familiar and new, as one would expect of an old Hollywood epic biopic. It...

The first step is often the hardest and similar was the case for Brandon Sklenar behind the scenes in Taylor Sheridan’s 1923. While Sheridan’s magnum opus Yellowstone abruptly ended due to his reported falling out with Kevin Costner, the Duttons are still going strong, and fans can once again tune in with the older generation in the second season of 1923.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone used to be hailed as one of the best neo-westerns to have ever been produced. At least, until people started noticing some patterns in the show that seemed way too similar to Sheridan’s other shows.
Kelly Reilly in Yellowstone | Credits: Paramount Network
Although most people were still appreciative of the series due to its premise, unfortunately without a substantial story, and dialogues to hold it up, that too fell apart. In fact, the show ultimately turned into a preach-fest with corny dialogues.
It turns out, though, that even though fans might have noticed it too late, Sheridan himself forewarned the show’s future with a particular scene in Season 3. The cheesy lines in that scene would go down in history as some of the cringiest ever.

Plot: In the second season of 1923, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.
Review: While Yellowstone finished its run just a couple of months ago, Taylor Sheridan’s second prequel series still has a few more stories about the origin of the Dutton Ranch in Montana. Following the acclaimed ten-episode run of 1883, Sheridan jumped into the twentieth century with the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led 1923. Envisioned as a two-season epic, 1923′s first season was a massive success as it blended a sprawling period epic across multiple continents and chronicled the early days of the Duttons...

Kevin Costner didn’t just ride into the Western genre; he built a whole frontier. But while Yellowstone made him the king of modern cowboy drama, his Horizon films aimed for something bigger. Unlike Taylor Sheridan’s testosterone-fueled ranch wars, Costner’s Horizon puts women at the heart of the story.

In a genre often dominated by rugged outlaws and stoic cowboys, Horizon stood out by giving women a voice, making it a Western with more heart and history than most.

Taylor Sheridan never minced words, but if you thought his Kevin Costner feud was brutal, his Yellowstone track record with vegans was something else. The man practically turned plant-based diets into villain-origin stories.

Be it cattle ranchers staring down tofu enthusiasts or cowboy wisdom dismissing quinoa like it was a personal insult, Sheridan’s scripts never missed a chance to remind audiences where his loyalties lay.
If Costner got heat, vegans got the full-blown wildfire.

For those with Hollywood dreams, whether it's acting in films or directing them, their biggest aspiration may be to win an Oscar. "Academy Award winner" would be forever attached to their name, and presumably, doors would open in their careers that had never opened before.
While the Oscars certainly recognize performers and filmmakers for their exceptional talents and place them in a class above the rest, they also bring high expectations. After winning, there will always be pressure to live up to that title, which may be impossible to achieve again. This is part of the dreaded "Oscar curse." What happens after you've achieved the biggest honor in Hollywood?
Oscar campaigns and wins can be just as much of a story as the movies themselves. Hollywood's publicity machine spins a specific narrative to help an artist win the coveted award — the higher the stakes or the more cultural impact, the better.

Don’t let the name fool you.
Fox Nation shares a Manhattan headquarters with Fox News Channel, but it doesn’t aspire to occupy the same niche as its conservative-tilted cable parent. Rather, the subscription streaming service has enlisted big Hollywood names to provide programming aimed at attracting its Gen X-focused audience.
Kevin Costner, Martin Scorsese, Rob Lowe and Kelsey Grammer have all made shows for Fox Nation in recent years. Jason Klarman, Fox News Media’s chief digital and marketing officer, said the platform has attracted top talent because there is in fact “nothing political” about their Fox Nation projects.
Of course, there is some political content on the service too, drawing upon Fox News’ resources and profile. Conservative activist Riley Gaines and commentator Tomi Lahren are both featured talent on the streamer. But Fox Nation wants to carve out its own space, one that isn’t wholly aligned...

While there was a time when Kevin Costner used to rule the world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone with his iconic performance as John Dutton III, it all changed when the actor decided to leave the game midway to focus on his own Western projects. Nonetheless, he is still as much under the limelight as ever, even with his respective series off the air. Or, at least his character is.

Though Yellowstone has ended its run and declared Costner’s character dead, one mystery surrounding his direct ancestors is still lurking around, yet to be answered: Who are John III’s grandparents? The confusion created by this one, though, is expected to be cleared by 1923, because if it doesn’t, then Sheridan would risk alienating a lot of his viewers for a very valid reason.
1923 Season 2 might end this confusion...

Saturday Night Live celebrated fifty years worth of sketches, musical performances, and unforgettable moments with a special that became the ultimate Avengers: Endgame moment for Hollywood. Whether it was Kevin Costner or Pedro Pascal, Tinseltown’s beloved joined the party, giving an ode to television’s favorite late-night show. Of course, SNL would be incomplete without its fair share of awkward moments and we got to see one of them during Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte’s performance.

Nobody was surprised (probably) when the massive, star-studded episode of "Saturday Night Live" celebrating the show's 50th anniversary mostly leaned on old standby sketches and concepts. There were some exceptions — including a perfect new Digital Short about how everybody who's ever worked at "SNL" has both anxiety and Ibs — but it's ultimately not shocking that the episode featured yet another musical ode to New York City's most disgusting aspects centered around John Mulaney.
From the man who brought you "Diner Lobster," "Airport Sushi," and "Port Authority Duane Reade," among others, we got "New York 50th Musical," and it's safe to say that Oscar nominee Adam Driver would only don a hot dog costume for something this great. After David Spade and Pete Davidson, the latter of whom note that they're "the same age" and just moved to New York in 1975 from the same small town, visit Mulaney's all-knowing hot dog vendor in Times Square,...

“Saturday Night Live” celebrated its 50th anniversary with a three-and-a-half-hour Sunday night primetime special, because there were too many stars to fit into 90 minutes.
Lorne Michaels’ sketch comedy institution has been part of the fabric of American culture for so long that it can be easy to take for granted how unique its run has been. “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” served as a star-studded reminder of how singular the show is — how long it’s been relevant, how many stars it has produced and how many catchphrases it has embedded into the collective vocabulary. The special was a cavalcade of sketches, celebrity guests and “SNL” history that celebrated the past while keeping an eye on the present.

For all his faults, Taylor Sheridan can still write a story like none other in Hollywood. After the television industry’s long stagnating period, Yellowstone managed to mark a shift among the modern audience who had been thirsting for a taste of something foreign and untested. The reprisal of Westerns was nothing new, yet Sheridan’s writing made it both experimental and dangerous.

After its spectacular success, Yellowstone gave way to two more integer-heavy prequel spin-offs – 1883 and 1923 – which built on the legacy of the Duttons. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan’s increasing ambition toppled the writer-director off his game somewhere beyond Yellowstone‘s post-Season 3 arc. As the number of projects on his roster increased, so began the decline of Sheridan’s golden era.

The title for the weirdest sketch of the “SNL50” special may have just been claimed by John Mulaney’s latest and most star-studded musical mashup to date.
The former “Saturday Night Live” writer returned, following his appearance during the “SNL50” monologue, in a sketch that begins in 1975 New York with him selling “hot dogs and heroin” to two out-of-town newbies (Pete Davidson and David Spade as two guys who are definitely the same age). When the newcomers ignore his warnings about the city, Mulaney leads them on a mind-boggling musical journey into New York’s past and future.
The sketch, yet another bold follow-up to Mulaney’s viral “Diner Lobster” from 2018, remixes songs from “The Lion King,” “Les Misérables” and “Hamilton,” and it features guest appearances from, among others, Kate McKinnon as Rudy Giuliani, Adam Driver as a singing hot dog, Kristen Wiig as a green M&m, Scarlett Johansson as...

John Mulaney took the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special on a five-decade journey through the ups and downs of the show’s New York City home base. Starting with the 1975 birth of the series, Mulaney’s star-studded medley began with convincing former cast members Pete Davidson and David Spade that the grimy 1970s was still a glorious time to live in New York.
From there, it was a decade-by-decade look at the city, with Adam Driver dressed as a hot dog, Kate McKinnon showing up as a disgraced former mayor Rudy Giuliani and Scarlett Johansson dressed as Audrey from “Little Shop of Horrors,” joking about real-life husband Colin Jost. Also, Nathan Lane sang an ode to cocaine to the tune of “The Lion King’s” “Hakuna Matata” — a song he sang for the film as Timon.
Other guest spots included one-time “SNL” musical directors Paul Shaffer and G.E. Smith,...

If you love the wild drama of Succession, these 10 TV shows are right up your alley!
Just wrapping up its amazing run on HBO, Succession was one of the biggest hits of the network. It revolved around the Roys, a family of beyond-rich business tycoons seeking more power. That led to scores of backstabbing and dark comedy of this truly dysfunctional family trying to work together.
The show was a huge hit, with multiple Emmy Awards for its cast and Best Drama, among other accolades. It’s over now, but thankfully, there are plenty of shows like it for folks who enjoy tales set in the world of high finance and often involving bickering to the point of murdering families. So, if you like Succession, add these shows to your binge list for the same wicked vibes!

Kicking off with a tribute to the Blues Brothers from the evening’s host Jimmy Fallon, last night’s “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” pulled out all the stops in celebrating the show’s rich musical history, as well as the influence music has had on its comedy. And though Fallon made sure to start the affair at Radio City Music Hall by pointing out that everyone in the room had some form of connection to “Saturday Night Live” and were not there as casual spectators, watching at home, its clear the production worked hard to place fans of the staple variety series right at the the center of the action as well.
The first singer of the evening was Miley Cyrus. After a rendition of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” accompanied by The Roots (they served as the house band for the evening) and Brittany Howard, Cyrus gave...

The SNL 50: Homecoming Concert at Radio City Music Hall Friday was one of the starriest and genre-bending concerts in recent history.
The concert, which took place ahead of the show’s big three-hour anniversary special Sunday, saw performances from Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, Cher, Lady Gaga (who took took part in a musical sketch with Lonely Island and returned with a performance of “Shallow”), Nirvana, led by Post Malone, Backstreet Boys, Snoop Dog, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef, David Byrne, Arcade Fire and St. Vincent, Eddie Vedder, Devo, The White Stripes and more.
The artists who performed had a connection to SNL, as did the invite-only crowd, which was made up of those who had worked at the late night sketch show or had a connection to someone who had.
Jimmy Fallon hosted the night, kicking it off with an energetic performance honoring the Blues Brothers. But before he took the stage,...

As "Yellowstone" approached its conclusion, yeehaws turned into hoo-hahs when Kevin Costner made a heated exit from the series prior to its final batch of episodes. Costner's departure, the result of behind-the-scenes issues, ultimately led to his character John Dutton being killed off in "Yellowstone" Season 5 Part 2. Regardless of how things wrapped up though, there's no doubt that Costner, as the leader of the Yellowstone ranch, provided exactly what was required — something that the show's creator, Taylor Sheridan, envisioned from the start.
In s 2018 interview with Collider, Sheridan said that casting Costner was a dream come true, describing it as collaboration he had long hoped for. "I'd been a fan of Kevin's work my whole life," Sheridan confessed. "Just the chance to sit down with someone you've admired was a great honor. I was really eager to find something to do with him, and I had the idea for this show.

We saw Taylor Sheridan’s peak writing in his movies and his most popular Western drama, Yellowstone. However, we unfortunately saw a slow descent in quality in Sheridan’s works. The Yellowstone finale was nowhere near as enjoyable as the first few seasons. Some fans have started to point out that even the initial seasons had some glaring problems that we conveniently ignored in his writing.

One of the major issues with Sheridan’s writing in Yellowstone in its earlier seasons was his addition of irrelevant plot points that took the story nowhere. These were either storylines with irrelevant character details in them or just plot points he had to abandon completely for the sake of budget.

If you're ever fortunate enough to interview a great filmmaker, or simply find yourself occupying the same space as one and want to make the moment meaningful before it passes, you'll always get a genuine answer when you ask them to name the movie that made them fall in love with the medium. This may not be true in years to come, when creators who grew up during the downtick in theatrical exhibition and the explosion of TikTok craft art meant to be digested in 30-second morsels on your smartphone, but right now it is a near certainty that your favorite director got bit by the cinema bug while sitting in a darkened theater — and that's a memory they can access as fast as their first kiss (do not ask them about that).
