It’s been 15 years since Stanley Tucci picked up his first Oscar nomination for “The Lovely Bones”; now, the character actor is back in the awards conversation, with his remarkable turn as a liberal cardinal being eyed to become the new pope in the Edward Berger’s “Conclave.”

Distributed by Focus Features, the film tells a fictionalized story about the pope selection process as secrets and alliances are exposed within the Catholic Church, reuniting Tucci with veteran actors Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini.

But it marks his first time working with Berger, who helmed by the German-language war film “All Quiet on the Western Front,” which netted four Oscars. Tucci describes Berger as a “very straightforward” director, who “has very specific ideas about what to do” without being dogmatic.

The third season of HBO’s hit controversial show Euphoria has been delayed due to a bevy of reasons, but HBO boss Casey Bloys said last month that the series should commence very soon. “We are shooting Euphoria,” Bloys said. “I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Last year wasn’t great for comedies, with movies like The Fall Guy and If failing at the box office. Could 2025 be a rebound? It’s possible, which inspired me to put together a list of the 10 comedies I’m most intrigued to see this year. Some are much-awaited sequels to beloved movies. Others are daring swings by acclaimed indie directors. And one of them features Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd at odds. Clearly, there’s something for everyone in 2025.

I organized my picks by release date, putting movies that don’t yet have a fixed spot on the calendar at the end in alphabetical order. But, as always, it’s a roll of the dice when you’re putting together a guide like this. I haven’t seen any of these movies, so I’m really just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

The story of Pan Am Flight 103 is one that continues to haunt much of Britain. In 1988, a transatlantic flight to America exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members. Parts of the aircraft fell onto the town and killed another 11 people.

A bomb aboard the plane was responsible for the carnage. The search for answers continues to this day, as American authorities are set to hold a federal trial for the latest suspect in the bombing that created the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the UK. The hunt for justice has left deep divisions between the victims’ families, and one advocate in particular, at the center of this Peacock miniseries, came to represent the knotty and obsessive hunt for the truth.

Appropriately somber and sincere-of-purpose, Peacock’s new limited series Lockerbie: A Search for Truth is, to the surprise of nobody who has been watching a lot of TV or reading my reviews recently, an important and powerful story dressed up in an ill-fitting suit.

The five-hour drama consists of two gripping episodes, then two meandering episodes and finally a conclusion of hastily resolved catharsis. Carried by a raw, heartbreaking lead performance by Colin Firth, it’s consistently watchable, but lacking the necessary focus to be truly exceptional.

The writer-director of the beloved 2003 holiday rom-com recently told IndieWire that it was a “catastrophe” editing the film starring Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Martine McCutcheon, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Rowan Atkinson.

The news has emerged a week after the Day of the Jackal studio promoted EVP Kelsey Balance to lead the global scripted team. Uis confirmed Crawford’s exit and told us that the outfit has started seeking her replacement.

Deadline reports that Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*) is in talks to join Steven Spielberg’s upcoming event movie. The project already boasts a cast which includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Colman Domingo (Euphoria), Eve Hewson (Hedda), and Josh O’Connor (Challengers).

We don’t know much about the project itself, only that it’s said to be a UFO movie based on Spielberg’s own original idea, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the screenplay. A UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds is pretty much all I need to know. Bring it on. Universal Pictures has already slated the project for a May 15, 2026 release.

On December 21, 1988, 259 passengers and crew were killed when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie 38 minutes after take-off. Eleven residents on the ground died as the plane crashed down. Dr. Swire became the nominated spokesperson for the UK victims’ families — he also became obsessed with the hunt for the truth, in only the way a grieving parent could.

The official trailer for Peacock/Sky drama Lockerbie: A Search for Truth has been released. The limited five-part series is a dramatic retelling of the aftermath of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, the deadliest terrorist attack to have ever hit the U.K. The horrific incident saw 259 passengers and crew killed, with a further 11 residents of Lockerbie also losing their lives as the plane came down on the small Scottish town.

Taking place over three decades, Lockerbie tells the story of Dr. Jim Swire, who lost his daughter Flora when Flight 103 exploded from a terrorist bomb just 38 minutes after take-off. Swire risks everything as he mounts a decades-long campaign to find out the truth behind the disaster and seeks justice for those that lost their lives.

Oscar-winner Colin Firth stars as Swire with Catherine McCormack, Rosanna Adams, Jemma Carlton, Harry Redding, Sam Troughton, Mark Bonner, Ardalan Esmaili and Selwa Jghalef also in the cast.

British actor Emily Blunt, who is being honored Thursday at the opening ceremony of the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, told an audience earlier in the day about Benny Safdie’s Mma fighting drama “The Smashing Machine,” in which she stars alongside Dwayne Johnson.

During a public interview, which runs as part of the festival’s “In Conversation With” strand, she said: “It’s an incredibly intense film.”

She said Johnson, with whom she starred with in “Jungle Cruise,” is “unrecognizable” in “The Smashing Machine.”
