When it came to playing Glinda in the big screen version of the Broadway musical, Wicked, it was a no-brainer that Ariana Grande would hit all the right notes with her four-octave vocal range.

But where the frequent Saturday Night Live and Sam & Kat thespian rallied for many was in her sheer, subtle and sublime comedic timing as Glinda the pink witch in the Jon M. Chu directed movie. Herein lies the fruit of Grande’s labor: In her first Golden Globe nomination for Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture. Her nom was one of four today for Wicked including Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Cynthia Erivo’s Best Female Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

As one Universal insider beamed to us at the premiere about Grande, she’s reminiscent of “Barbra Streisand” in both her song and her silly.

Brendan Fraser have given an update on his upcoming post The Whale films, including Searchlight’s Tokyo-Shot Rental Family, and also revealed he would like to get into producing next, in an onstage conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival.

“I finished a film earlier this year in Japan called Rental Family, the director, Hikari… is a Japanese American who has written a story about what it means to have a family as not being the one necessarily that we were born into, but whom we encounter and collect in our lives,” said Fraser.

“Rental Family is an absurd sounding, funny title in itself but you can rent just about anything in Tokyo: a hat, a go-kart and a family,” he continued.

The actor plays a long-time Tokyo expat resident, who takes a job at a rental family agency, when he falls on hard times.

HBO in November 2022 announced a third season for The White Lotus, which will bring a new installment of the Mike White-created anthology series to screens.

The first installment, which premiered July 2021 and was set in Hawaii, was nominated for 20 Emmy Awards and won a leading 10, including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Season 2, set in Sicily, debuted October 30, 2022 and won five Emmys, including a repeat for Jennifer Coolidge.

First up, we now know that series three of Mike White’s fabulous jet-set, hotel-based masterpiece The White Lotus will be coming in February. This time we’re headed to the Paris resort of the titular high-end establishment with a cast that includes Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs , Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey and Tayme Thapthimthong. The recent Coming To Max in 2025 trailer featured the new and returning HBO series set to release new seasons next year, including Season 3 of Mike White’s The White Lotus and the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Mike White’s “The White Lotus” will air its third season on HBO this February, Warner Bros. Discovery streaming chief Jb Perrette confirmed on Tuesday.

The much-anticipated Season 3 of the mysterious and satirical travel anthology series jets off to Thailand this year, and after a few teases that it would be returning early in 2025, we now finally have a release date to mark on the calendar.

Perrette spoke at the Wells Fargo Tmt Summit on Tuesday, December 3 and revealed the news, and he added that “Euphoria,” which is due to begin production in January, is not likely to return until 2026. What’s more, the HBO series adaptation of the “Harry Potter” books, which is currently looking for its young Harry, Ron, and Hermoine, might also not hit screens until 2027, Perrette said. A fourth season of “The White Lotus” could already be in the works. HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys told reporters Tuesday that he visited creator Mike White on the show’s Season 3 Thailand set earlier this year, and that White already has ideas percolating for Season 4.

“Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the four seasons — he will do the fourth season,” Bloys told reporters. He was mum on any details, of course. The next “White Lotus” is set to premiere in early 2025 with returning cast member Natasha Rothwell, as well as new stars Carrie Coon, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan and Parker Posey, among others. White created the series and serves as executive producer and director, and it won the limited series Emmy in 2022 (before moving to the drama category).

Casey Bloys, who is Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, said that when he was in Thailand for the season three shoot, creator Mike White pitched his concept for a fourth season.

Bloys added that if White wants to do a fourth season, HBO will do a fourth season.

This comes ahead of the launch of season three, which is expected to air in the first half of 2025.

Following her stay at the White Lotus, Meghann Fahy feels bad for kicking Jennifer Coolidge while she was down.

The Emmy Award nominee recently recalled filming the Season 2 finale of Mike White‘s hit HBO series and accidentally kicking her co-star in the scene where Fahy’s Daphne discovered the dead body of Coolidge’s Tanya floating in the ocean.

“She did a lot of actually floating down in water,” she noted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “And when we were shooting it, I did actually kick her in the face at one point. I felt so bad.

“They wanted to get a shot under the water of my foot making contact with her body, but I couldn’t see where her body was,” explained Fahy. “So she was just like, floating, waiting for my foot to like enter her general space. And I hit her in the face by accident.

Defying the odds at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) ended up winning the Best Drama Guest Actress race for the Prime Video spy thriller. Many awards pundits thought that Claire Foy (“The Crown”) might prevail, especially considering she had already won this same guest actress category in 2021 as well as the lead actress race in 2018. For this 2024 contest, the two nominees faced off against Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”), Sarah Paulson (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Parker Posey (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”).

Coel submitted the episode “Infidelity” in which she plays Bev, a secret spy who tries to infiltrate the marriage between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). The annual two-day event, which takes place the weekend before the Primetime Emmys, saw 99 TV awards handed out to mostly below-the-line categories, as well as recognition for guest actor and actress roles. Awards announced on Sunday included honors for comedy, drama and limited series, after Saturday was largely devoted to variety, nonfiction and reality. The Primetime Emmys air on Sunday night, September 15, on ABC, but that’s not where most of the awards will actually be handed out. The vast majority will go out at the Creative Arts Awards over two nights this weekend on September 7 and September 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. So who will win? Gold Derby users have placed their bets in 31 categories here in our predictions center. Those predictions have been combined to generate our official racetrack odds. There will be 50 awards presented on Saturday’s show focusing on animation, reality, variety, and nonfiction programming. Another 49 trophies go out during the Sunday festivities focused primarily on craft achievements in dramas, comedies, TV movies and limited series. The final 25 awards will be bestowed on September 15 during the telecast hosted by father-and-son Emmy winners Eugene Levy and Dan Levy.

“It was wonderful being in Thailand. I was there for five months,” Rothwell said on Sirius Xm’s The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham of filming the new season.

Rothwell noted that while filming the new season of The White Lotus, she was “finishing up editing the final episode of How to Die Alone from Koh Samui.

“It was a feat for sure. But I have amazing assistants that helped me coordinate remote editing,” she added. “It’s such a beautiful country. And Mike has said in the press that the season is focusing on spirituality and exploration of that, and Belinda being in the massage arts.”

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.

Due to technical difficulties, the Parks and Recreation alum says she hasn’t seen the Mike White-created series.

“I still haven’t, but I’m going to,” Plaza said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”

Plaza said that she has requested DVDs of the series to watch it, adding, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”
