When it came to playing Glinda in the big screen version of the Broadway musical, Wicked, it was a no-brainer that Ariana Grande would hit all the right notes with her four-octave vocal range.
But where the frequent Saturday Night Live and Sam & Kat thespian rallied for many was in her sheer, subtle and sublime comedic timing as Glinda the pink witch in the Jon M. Chu directed movie. Herein lies the fruit of Grande’s labor: In her first Golden Globe nomination for Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture. Her nom was one of four today for Wicked including Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Cynthia Erivo’s Best Female Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
As one Universal insider beamed to us at the premiere about Grande, she’s reminiscent of “Barbra Streisand” in both her song and her silly.

Brendan Fraser have given an update on his upcoming post The Whale films, including Searchlight’s Tokyo-Shot Rental Family, and also revealed he would like to get into producing next, in an onstage conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival.
“I finished a film earlier this year in Japan called Rental Family, the director, Hikari… is a Japanese American who has written a story about what it means to have a family as not being the one necessarily that we were born into, but whom we encounter and collect in our lives,” said Fraser.
“Rental Family is an absurd sounding, funny title in itself but you can rent just about anything in Tokyo: a hat, a go-kart and a family,” he continued.
The actor plays a long-time Tokyo expat resident, who takes a job at a rental family agency, when he falls on hard times.

Amazon’s acclaimed rookie drama series Mr. & Mrs. Smith is poised to make SAG Awards history.
Only two TV shows have ever received a best ensemble — comedy or drama — SAG Award nomination after entering a cast comprised of just two people: comedy Key & Peele in 2016 and drama The Last of Us earlier this year. Mr. & Mrs. Smith could be the third, given that only its John and Jane — as in, Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, whose characters are at the heart of the series — are eligible for inclusion in its submission, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
That’s because its supporting and guest cast members — among them notables such as Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Sharon Horgan, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Ron Perlman and Michaela Coel, as well as the show’s leading man’s mother, Beverly Glover — do not appear in...

A fourth season of “The White Lotus” could already be in the works. HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys told reporters Tuesday that he visited creator Mike White on the show’s Season 3 Thailand set earlier this year, and that White already has ideas percolating for Season 4.

The next “White Lotus” is set to premiere in early 2025 with returning cast member Natasha Rothwell, as well as new stars Carrie Coon, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan and Parker Posey, among others. White created the series and serves as executive producer and director, and it won the limited series Emmy in 2022 (before moving to the drama category).

Filmmaker Tyler Taormina quickly fell in love with IFC Films’ idea for how to market his merry-and-bright feature. The indie distributor’s trailer for “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” plays as a full-on throwback to how holiday season comedies used to be advertised, complete with baby boomer doo-wop, a long list of grinning cast members and a warm narrator promising that, “It’s more than a holiday. It’s a gift for the whole family.” But the nostalgic packaging came with an unforeseen side effect.
“A lot of the people online are like, ‘Oh, I thought it was a horror movie.’ It was a very common reaction that was not at all thought of,” Taormina shares. “Earnest nostalgia is not able to be detected. The irony is expected. It bummed me out.”

Blake Lively, with her slew of movies, has gained quite a big fan following and popularity world-wide. She made her acting debut in Sandman, released in 1998, but gained international acclaim for playing Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. The show ran from 2007 to 2012 and lasted for six seasons, and as it progressed, so did the popularity of Lively.
After participating in the teen drama, the actress started getting lead roles in movies as well, and in 2010, while filming Green Lantern, she crossed paths with Ryan Reynolds. The duo initially started as friends, but romantic sparks soon flew between them, and they started dating. They got married in 2012 and currently have four kids together. Further, everything was going well for the actress, and she even had one of the biggest movies of her career lined up.

Meghann Fahy Recalls Accidentally Kicking Jennifer Coolidge “In The Face” During ‘White Lotus’ Scene
Following her stay at the White Lotus, Meghann Fahy feels bad for kicking Jennifer Coolidge while she was down.
The Emmy Award nominee recently recalled filming the Season 2 finale of Mike White‘s hit HBO series and accidentally kicking her co-star in the scene where Fahy’s Daphne discovered the dead body of Coolidge’s Tanya floating in the ocean.
“She did a lot of actually floating down in water,” she noted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “And when we were shooting it, I did actually kick her in the face at one point. I felt so bad.
“They wanted to get a shot under the water of my foot making contact with her body, but I couldn’t see where her body was,” explained Fahy. “So she was just like, floating, waiting for my foot to like enter her general space. And I hit her in the face by accident.

Defying the odds at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) ended up winning the Best Drama Guest Actress race for the Prime Video spy thriller. Many awards pundits thought that Claire Foy (“The Crown”) might prevail, especially considering she had already won this same guest actress category in 2021 as well as the lead actress race in 2018. For this 2024 contest, the two nominees faced off against Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”), Sarah Paulson (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Parker Posey (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”).
Coel submitted the episode “Infidelity” in which she plays Bev, a secret spy who tries to infiltrate the marriage between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). This marks Coel’s second career Emmy victory after previously prevailing for writing her HBO limited series “I May Destroy You” (2021).

“Shōgun” dominated the second and final night of the 76th Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, taking home the most awards with 14 and putting itself in prime position for the main ceremony on Sept. 15. The celebration began early for the FX drama when it collected the evening’s first award, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, for Nestor Carbonell’s performance in the episode “Anjin.”
It proved to be a busy night for “Shōgun.” The period drama picked up accolades for its below-the-line achievements in casting, costumes, makeup, hairstyling, stunts, production design, editing, visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing, main title design and cinematography. “Shōgun” nearly pulled off a perfect run at the Creative Arts Emmys, winning 14 out of the 16 categories it was nominated in. In 2021, “The Crown” performer Claire Foy made Emmys history as the first winner of lead and guest acting trophies for a single role. With that monumental achievement on her resume, she naturally appears unstoppable as she seeks the 2024 Best Drama Guest Actress prize for her work on the farewell season of the same series.
Foy would follow Patricia Clarkson (“Six Feet Under”) and Margo Martindale (“The Americans”) as the third woman to win two guest Emmys for one drama program and would be the only two-time guest victor overall with a regular win for the same show. Those hoping to give her a run for her money are veteran contender Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”) and category newcomers Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, and Parker Posey, all three of whom represent “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

“This season, it’s bigger, it’s more insane,” Natasha told Jess and Julia. “I personally, and again I’m biased, but I think it’s the best one yet.”
Listen to the full episode featuring Natasha and “The Deliverance” director Lee Daniels on the SiriusXM app and throughout the week in cars on Radio Andy.
During the interview, she also reflected on working with her talented co-stars in the upcoming season, discussed the differences in filming Season 1 during the pandemic vs. Season 3, and talked about how her character on Hulu’s new comedy series “How to Die Alone” – which Natasha co-created – experiences all the emotions.

Natasha Rothwell is returning to The White Lotus universe and is teasing Season 3 filming in Thailand.
The How to Die Alone star is returning to the HBO series to reprise her role of spa manager Belinda.

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.
Due to technical difficulties, the Parks and Recreation alum says she hasn’t seen the Mike White-created series.
“I still haven’t, but I’m going to,” Plaza said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”
Plaza said that she has requested DVDs of the series to watch it, adding, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”

While most of the prediction thought and energy when forecasting the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards goes to the big-ticket honors for comedy, drama and limited series, there are no fewer than 99 additional categories for which statuettes will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 7 and 8 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live. And because they had already talked themselves hoarse debating the merits of the categories included in The Big Emmy Show on September 15, Gold Derby senior editors Denton Davidson, Marcus James Dixon and Daniel Montgomery and news and features editor Ray Richmond decided it was time to lock horns in a slugfest examining some of the too-often-less-discussed nominees gunning for gold in the creative arts portion of the three-day Emmy extravaganza. Watch the quartet’s lively discussion above.

Blake Lively has always been a limelight stealer, be it through her unparalleled beauty or indomitable acting chops. However, as of late, she has been under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Following her latest interviews about her recently released romance/drama It Ends with Us, she is alleged of sporting “toxic behavior” as a celebrity.

Amidst all of this, journalist Kjersti Flaa has come up with an eight-year-old interview with Lively where the actress was notably seen not being on her best behavior as Flaa tried to interview her. Needless to say, this has further put the actress under a lot more fire than before. But what’s surprising is that Flaa isn’t the only journalist with regrettable memories about Lively.
