Break out the Post-It Notes because Romy and Michele may be headed towards another reunion. While a sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion may not have been officially greenlit, star Mira Sorvino (that’s Romy) has hopes that it’s the closest it’s ever been to being ready to go.
Speaking with People, Sorvio said that the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion sequel isn’t entirely ready but just needs a few more tweaks before cameras are ready to roll. “They’ve done his deal, they’ve done Lisa [Kudrow] and my deals as executive producers. [Original screenwriter Robin Schiff] has written multiple drafts of an amazing funny script, which checks all the boxes for all the fans.” As for a time frame, Sorvino noted, “And they’re just going back and forth, tweaking things here and there, and [there are] rumors of shooting it second quarter next year…...

Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute in The Office, wearing a mustard shirt and glasses, almost missed out on the iconic role (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Imagine The Office without Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute. Crazy, right? Yet, that nearly happened. Wilson almost missed his chance to play the eccentric assistant to the regional manager, and it all hinged on one failed project.
Back in the day, as The Office was gearing up for its American debut, Wilson was already locked into another TV pilot. This pilot starred Janeane Garofalo, and Wilson was set to be a part of it. But, as he chatted with Theo Von, Wilson revealed how he stumbled upon his future The Office role—by sheer accident.

Saturday Night Live hasn’t always gotten the best reviews. Heck, the very first episode of the show was branded as a “tedious failure” by Variety. But while that judgment came and went with little fanfare, a later SNL write-up was so unflinchingly scathing that several cast members briefly considered physically attacking the guy who wrote it.
On the most recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast, Dana Carvey and David Spade let slip that SNL’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration will include a photo shoot for New York Magazine featuring the show’s alumni. And even though it’s nearly been 30 years, the subject of New York Magazine still brought up some unpleasant memories for Spade. “Who is the one we know we famously had the fight with back in the old days, we wanted to beat the guy up? Was that The New York Observer, or was it New York Magazine?...

The nepo baby discourse as it pertains to the arts is typically a grievance-driven undertaking that allows low- to no-talent individuals the opportunity to blame someone other than themselves for their lack of success. Though there have been instances of celebrity-adjacent people receiving seemingly undeserved gigs, these are usually one-and-not-too-many-more-done deals undone by the recipient's profound absence of skill.

Jodie Foster's career has been famously wild. As a child, she appeared in lightweight Disney films like "Napoleon and Samantha" and "Freaky Friday," while also taking the world by surprise playing an underage sex worker in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver." Throughout the 1980s, she successfully continued acting as she grew, appearing in films like "Foxes," "The Hotel New Hampshire," and "The Accused," for which she won her first Academy Award. In 1991, Foster won her second Oscar for playing FBI cadet Clarice Starling in Jonathan Demme's bleak serial killer thriller "The Silence of the Lambs," one of the few films to win "The Big Five" Oscars. That same year, Foster made her directorial debut with the child-prodigy drama "Little Man Tate."
From then on, Foster was a Hollywood staple, leading multiple high-profile studio dramas like "Maverick," Robert Zemeckis' "Contact," and "Anna and the King." She also worked with...

“SNL sucks now” isn’t as fresh a complaint as you might think. This sentiment was even a matter of public discourse way back in the early ‘90s, as evidenced by the not-so-cleverly titled 1994 Entertainment Weekly article, “Is Saturday Night Dead?”
The magazine wasn’t alone in expressing concern for the long-running comedy series during its 19th season. The New York Daily News noted that SNL would have to try and “find a desperately needed fresh sense of identity” following the loss of Dana Carvey and Chris Rock, and the announced departures of Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney and Rob Schneider.
So EW offered up “20 suggestions” for “how to fix the show.” Looking back at this list, it’s amazing how spot-on some ideas are in retrospect — while others are laughably dated and arguably awful.
For starters, writer Bruce Fretts (who sadly passed away in 2020) suggested handing over the reins of Weekend Update to David Spade,...

Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment The superhero comedy Mystery Men made a splash in 1999 because to its unique premise and star-studded ensemble cast. The movie portrayed some comically incompetent amateur superheroes as they battled a villainous supervillain to save the day. Mystery Men seemed bound for success with huge names like Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, William H. Macy, and even the late Paul Reubens. The movie did poorly at the box office, recouping only half of its $68 million budget, despite receiving favorable reviews. But 25 years later, Mystery Men has risen above the hype and become a treasured cult classic. Ben Stiller, who was at the time enjoying the success of There’s Something About Mary, told us at the time of Mystery Men’s release that he was partly drawn to the film by Janeane Garofalo, a close friend and frequent collaborator. Racking my brain to think of what exposure I’ve had to the concept of asexuality, I can come up with two examples: the personal life section of Janeane Garofalo’s Wikipedia page, and an interview with a man on a Canadian late-night television show (I think it was SexTV?) explaining it as if an alien. Well, with that limited knowledge, I was hoping Marija Kavtaradze’s Sundance-feted Slow would shine some light on the subject, rendering it into a dramatically compelling topic that I didn’t regard as somewhat of a joke. Yet this ho-hum relationship drama––the Sundance premiere makes a lot of sense; this is essentially the European iteration of the forgettable movies that fill up that fest––which has little in the way of surprise, tension or genuine romantic sweep, disappoints in that regard.

Remembering The Comedians Of Comedy, Netflix's First True Original Production (A Quasi-Oral History)
If I asked you to name the first original production from Netflix, what would you say? An educated guess might bring you to "House of Cards" or "Lilyhammer," and that's a fair assessment. While the former was Netflix's first piece of original programming produced specifically for the company's streaming service (released in February of 2013), the latter technically has the honor of being Netflix's first original streaming production (premiering on Netflix in February of 2012), even though it was only partially funded by Netflix and actually premiered in Norway first under the TV network NRK1.
But what if I told you that neither of these was the first true Netflix original? What if I told you Netflix produced their first original production even before they created the now-defunct Red Envelope Entertainment? Yes, before streaming, Netflix had a film financing and acquisition arm that shuttered in 2008 after investing in more than 100 films and...

It takes a specific formula and something unique to nail the coming-of-age, young adult series, something that presently, even the best there is to offer falls short.
When it comes to capturing the college-aged genre, Felicity is the blueprint.
It's been 25 years since Felicity premiered on the now-defunct network The WB, and the magic of the series and the subsequent impact of it still holds up today.
Felicity's indelible legacy marked the acclaimed J.J. Abrams' first foray into television, opening the door for other massive hits such as Alias and Lost.
The series also made breakout stars out of Keri Russell, Scott Speedman, Scott Foley, and Greg Grunberg, who have been successful household names since.
In honor of the 25th anniversary, a rewatch of the pilot was warranted, and it's incredible how much it transports one back to pre-9/11 to perfectly capture the profound introspection, whimsy, and cringe of just entering adulthood.

1996 was a dark year for The Italian Stallion. Sylvester Stallone had two pricey flops in 1995, with Judge Dredd and Assassins. His Christmas of 1996 disaster movie release, Daylight, was another box office bomb. Just a few years before, Stallone had made a significant comeback with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man, but now the whole industry was changing. Carolco, the company that financed some of the era’s biggest hits, had gone bankrupt, and action movies were getting smaller and smaller. Dogma is the kind of movie that has to be seen to be believed. But, then again, it’s a movie about belief. Well, kind of. Writer/director Kevin Smith made a movie that poked considerable fun at religion, and the Catholic Church in particular, while simultaneously showing a broad knowledge of religious dogma. Of course, the film drew quite a bit of controversy at the time, even causing its release date to be pushed back by a year, from 1998 to 1999. But, when released, it also became a moderate hit, thanks to an all-star cast that included Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, Linda Fiorentino, and Janeane Garofalo. Yet, even with all of those big names, Smith managed to make the movie for just $10 million, and he told us how he was able to do that. (Click on the media bar below to hear Kevin Smith) https://www.

Paul Rudd became popular thanks to a succession of iconic films like Clueless and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. These days, he isn’t just a star of comedies. He’s a bonafide action hero as well, and a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, Rudd has never forgotten his roots, and the movies that helped to make him a star. In a recent interview, the actor discussed one of his earliest hits, the cult classic comedy Wet Hot American Summer, revealing why even making the movie was like being in summer camp.

Rudd was born in 1969. By the early ’90s begun acting in a variety of TV commercials and other smaller projects. His first major film role was in the 1995 comedy Clueless. Over the years that followed, he acted in several popular movies, including Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers...

One of the first things that come to mind about James Mangold's 1997 crime drama "Cop Land" is its stacked cast — and how some of them played against type. Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro were just the tip of the macho iceberg in a who's-who ensemble of stars and familiar character actors. There was also Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich, and Malik Yoba -- the list goes on and on. Even smaller roles utilized notable Martin Scorsese alumni like Cathy Moriarty and Frank Vincent, and future "The Sopranos" stars Edie Falco and Tony Sirico (the latter of whom only appears in a surveillance photo). This was the movie that put "Rocky" and "Raging Bull" in the ring together and had Stallone gain 40 pounds to play a half-deaf sheriff in a New Jersey town populated by corrupt cops.

David Fincher’s Fight Club is an extraordinary cinematic gem of 1999. The film spoke to a generation of disaffected youth who grew up listening to Rage Against the Machine and vandalizing road signs to anger “the Man.” Visually grimy, mysterious, and acting like a religion for seemingly disenfranchised males, one of the film’s standout characters is Helena Bonham Carter’s Marla, the love interest of Edward Norton’s narrator and protagonist. Before Carter joined the cast, Fincher considered Janeane Garofalo, Winona Ryder, and Courtney Love for the coveted role. Love was dating Norton at the time and longed to play the part. However, according to Love, she was fired from the film after Norton’s co-star, Brad Pitt, had her stricken from the cast list.

When David Fincher made the 1999 film “Fight Club,” there were a few actresses considered to play Marla, the love interest of Edward Norton’s narrator and protagonist. Among them were Janeane Garofalo, Winona Ryder, and Norton’s then-girlfriend Courtney Love, before the role ultimately went to Helena Bonham Carter. Now, Love is claiming that she was cast in the part and ready to shoot the film, before co-lead Brad Pitt got her booted from production.
The “Hole” frontwoman made the claims during an interview on Marc Maron’s podcast “Wtf” released December 27. According to Love, Pitt got Fincher to take her off the film after she rejected a pitch from him for a biopic about the life of her deceased husband Kurt Cobain. Love married the “Nirvana” rock icon in 1992, two years before he died by suicide. According to Love’s story, Pitt pitched her on the film during a...

The story is set in a confined location, a secluded house in the woods, with few characters, and there is a story to be told. The intended tension that should be running high throughout soon dims in the first act.

The flood of sinister Christmas-themed films continues with The Apology, a thriller about Darlene Hagen. She’s a recovering alcoholic and, with some help from her best friend Gretchen, is hosting the family festivities for the first time in twenty years. But tonight she’s struggling to maintain that sobriety. Twenty years ago her daughter Sally disappeared. In the years since there has been explanation or evidence that might offer even a suggestion as to what happened to her. Now, with a storm whipping up outside her former brother-in-law Jack whom she hasn’t spoken to in nineteen years turns up with gifts and a dark secret.

Be it sadness or happiness, Christmas tends to bring out intense emotions. What’s often seen as a joyous time for some people can be the loneliest day of the year for others. In the movie The Apology, Darlene Hagen hasn’t had a happy Christmas since she experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. This one particular holiday is already hard enough to get through, but now this heartbroken mother is paid an unexpected visit from a ghost of Christmas past.
Alison Locke’s first long feature lives on the less celebrated side of Christmas storytelling. As cheerless and severe as The Apology is, though, it also taps into that sort of unexplained magic often found in holiday movies. Some kind of unnatural force has to be at work when watching Anna Gunn’s character receive the most complicated Christmas gift imaginable. But her unique present comes with strings attached...

Who would have expected that Derek Zoolander himself would end up becoming one of today's most prominent dramatic storytellers? In recent years, Ben Stiller has set his comedic aspirations aside for an emphasis on prestige television. He directed the entirety of the riveting prison break miniseries "Escape at Dannemora" and the psychological thriller "Severance." If you've been paying attention, it's been clear that Stiller is a creative storyteller who knows how to surprise an audience. It's only a surprise to see the new direction in his career because he's always been making us laugh so much.
In the late 1990s, a group of comic actors known as the "Frat Pack" began to dominate mainstream comedy. While the careers of Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carrell, Jack Black, and Paul Rudd were fairly consistent, Stiller managed to mix in a variety of independent projects alongside mainstream studio films. "If it's not revenge, what… would you want?" Rlje Films has revealed the official trailer for a thriller titled The Apology, arriving in the middle of December to watch. It looks creepy! Not quite horror, but certainly unsettling for many different reasons. Twenty years after the disappearance of her daughter, a recovering alcoholic is preparing to host her small family's Christmas celebration when her estranged ex-bother-in-law arrives unannounced, bearing nostalgic gifts and a heavy secret. Soon, Darlene finds herself caught between reason and ruthless instinct. What will she do? Watch to find out. This is another sneaky trailer that cleverly sets up the premise just before it cuts before the title. Nice to see a trailer that doesn't show the whole film! The Apology stars Anna Gunn, Linus Roache, Holland Bailey, and Janeane Garofalo. Take a look. ›››

“A young Janeane Garofalo.” That’s how we originally pitched the character of Robin in “Stranger Things.” But that’s about all we had. James Ponsoldt is expecting this question. Why did the guy who made films like “Smashed,” “The Spectacular Now,” and “The End of the Tour” — dark, knowing dramas about messed-up adults, typically with substance abuse problems and a host of neuroses — turn his attention to “Summering,” a film about four tween girls in the waning days of their favorite season?
He’s got the answer in hand: He’s a parent of three kids, his wife Megan works in the public-school system, and this is the stuff he wants to share with his family.
