The late, great Teri Garr, who brightened everything from sitcoms, variety shows, talk shows, some of the funniest movies ever made and even the occasional drama is being remembered by co-stars and colleagues today for the light she was.

Hallmark+ has dropped its second Aurora Teagarden Mystery entitled Death At The Diner. Originally, Candace Cameron Bure starred in this role. Now, it is a prequel spinoff of the early days of the librarian-sleuth.

This stars Skyler Samuels and Evan Roderick. In addition, Og star Marilu Henner is also back as Aida, and there is a special guest star, Kimberley Sustad, as well as a Garage Sale Mysteries reunion.

David B. Grelck wrote this script, and Jessica Harmon is the director, who were both behind the excellent Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: A Lesson In Murder.

The classic sitcom "Taxi" has its fair share of interesting characters that work in New York City's Sunshine Cab Company, but arguably the tender heart at its center is boxer Tony Banta, played by Tony Danza. He's not always the brightest crayon in the box, but he's full of courage and love and would do just about anything for his friends. Despite being a bit of a womanizer early on, he's never cruel or lecherous like his boss Louie (Danny DeVito), and he is a fantastic friend to his co-worker Elaine (Marilu Henner). He's also surprisingly sweet despite his punchy side gig, serving as the template for later sitcom characters like Joey from "Friends." It's truly hard to imagine "Taxi" without him.

What's even harder to imagine is the character of Tony being played by anybody else. He's warm and earnest and bounces off great against some of the more cynical comedians on the cast.

It took a savvy comedy fan to know what Andy Kaufman was doing with his career. More than a mere funnyman, Kaufman tended to satirize the trappings of standup comedy, often using his routines to play pranks on the audience. As detailed in Miloš Forman's 1999 biopic "Man on the Moon," Kaufman wanted to host a TV special that contained artificial signal "static" in the hope that viewers would get up out of their seats and whack their "broken" TV sets. That's not funny for the audience, but it's certainly funny for Kaufman.

Part of Kaufman's satirical act was a whole separate stage persona named Tony Clifton, a foul-mouthed, alcoholic lounge singer who cussed and behaved badly. Clifton was also occasionally played by Kaufman's close friend and associate Bob Zmuda, allowing Clifton and Kaufman to occasionally appear in the same room, calling the reality of the character into question. Nearly 40 years after outré comedian Andy Kaufman’s death from cancer, there remain fans who are certain that a faked demise was Kaufman’s most ambitious and committed hoax.

Until proven otherwise, this is a ridiculous conviction. Robert Lieberman, who directed films including Fire in the Sky and D3: The Mighty Ducks, episodes of The X-Files, Dexter and Criminal Minds and thousands of commercials, has died. He was 75.

Lieberman died July 1 in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer, his son, Nick Lieberman, who co-directed Searchlight Pictures’ Theater Camp, which hit the big screen this weekend, announced.

Lieberman helmed TV spots for such companies as McDonald’s, Hallmark and Oreo and worked with talent ranging from President Clinton, Ray Charles and Jerry Lewis to Michael Jordan, Anne Hathaway and Kenan Thompson. He received more than two dozen Clio Awards and, in 1979, the inaugural DGA Award for commercials.

Much of his work was done through Harmony Pictures, the company he founded with Stuart Gross.

Robert Lieberman, who directed the sci-fi cult classic Fire in the Sky and won the inaugural DGA Award for Commercials, has died in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer. He was 75.

His death on July 1 was confirmed by his manager, John Bauman.

Lieberman kicked off his 50-plus year career as an assistant editor in commercials but by the mid-’70s had worked his way up to directing. Director Justin Simien told Variety he was “sad” his cast couldn’t attend, but understands why and supports the actors walkout. Press were initially told that Simien would not be doing interviews.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion premiere at Disneyland this Saturday will turn into a fan event should the SAG-AFTRA strike occur.

Sources tell us that Disney is still mulling whether there will be a red carpet press line on Saturday if a SAG-AFTRA work stoppage occurs; essentially studio executives, Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, EPs Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman and composer Kris Bowers could be available for interviews in such an instance.

The current SAG-AFTRA contract was extended to 11:59Pm, tomorrow, Wednesday. Any actors and actresses nominated for Primetime Emmys can still do press, but after Thursday, they cannot do any press for any projects. That rule by the union has tied the hands of studios and networks heading down to San Diego Comic-Con next week, from July 19-23. Expect to see a lot of screenings and trailers, and hardly any talking heads down there.

Disney’s red carpet premiere for “Haunted Mansion,” held on July 15 at Disneyland, will take place even if there is a SAG-AFTRA strike.

It is the first major world premiere set to take place after the strike deadline.

The stars of the movie, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hasan Minhaj, Marilu Henner and Lindsay Lamb, would no longer be able to take part in the festivities in the case of a strike.

It is not clear if director Justin Simien, producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, executive producers Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman and composer Kris Bowers, would participate in a traditional red carpet with photographers and interview press. That is, if Disney still rolls out a carpet.

Strike or no strike, the studio is expected to host about 2,000 guests, including fans in costumes, at the premiere.

Other than earning both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for playing Huston Dwyer — the opposite end of a doomed relationship — in 1979’s The Rose, Frederic Forrest is perhaps best known for playing Jay “Chef” Hicks, who loses his head both mentally and literally, in Apocalypse Now the same year. For both performances Forrest was recognized by the National Society of Film Critics as that year’s Best Supporting Actor.

Oscar-nominated character actor Frederic Forrest, who starred in The Rose and Apocalypse Now, died Friday in Santa Monica, Calif. at 86 after a long illness.

Bette Midler, his former costar, shared the news on Twitter.

“The great and beloved Frederic Forrest has died,” Midler, 77, wrote Friday. “Thank you to all of his fans and friends for all their support these last few months. He was a remarkable actor, and a brilliant human being, and I was lucky to have him in my life. He was at peace.”

Director Francis Ford Coppola, who worked with him on Apocalypse Now and other films, issued a statement.

“Freddie Forrest was a sweet, much beloved person, a wonderful actor and a good friend. His loss is heartbreaking to me.”

Midler and Forrest starred in the The Rose (1979), with Forrest portraying her limousine-driver-turned-love-interest, Huston Dyer.

The role earned Forrest Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

De-aging the characters worked exceptionally well, and the most questionable choice -- to retain Marilu Henner as Aurora's mom, Aida -- gave the series an unexpected tether to the earlier episodes.

For those who don’t remember, “Taxi” was a very well regarded sitcom that aired from 1978-1983, first on ABC before it was canceled after Season 4, then revived on NBC for its 5th and final season. The show followed a group of disillusioned misfits working for a Manhattan cab company, anchored by Hirsch’s Alex Reiger, who happens to be the only employee that doesn’t consider the job temporary.
