We Need To Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsay is reportedly about to embark on another film: revenge thriller Stone Mattress.

With films like We Need To Talk About Kevin and You Were Never Really Here on her impressive resume, there’s no doubt that Lynne Ramsay is a celebrated film director. Given her penchant for making short films too, Ramsay has never been what you’d call a prolific director of features: her last film was 2017’s You Were Never Really Here, and before that, 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin. According to a new report, though, Ramsay’s next project may be her second to go before cameras in a single calendar year.

Ramsay has already finished up production on Die, My Love, a film ‘about a woman driven to the brink of insanity by marriage and motherhood.’ Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Nick Nolte and Sissy Spacek all star.

Cape Fear has been reimagined a few times now, with the story based on John D. Macdonald's 1957 novel The Executioners, which was adapted into the 1962 movie from director J. Lee Thompson. On Monday, Nov. 18, Apple TV+ announced a new 10-episode series adaptation of “Cape Fear,” executive produced by and starring Javier Bardem as Max Cady, a killer who gets out of prison and haunts the lives of married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are also onboard as executive producers.

The series is based on the 1957 novel “The Executioners,” which was previously adapted into the 1962 “Cape Fear” starring Robert Mitchum as Max Cady and Gregory Peck as Sam Bowden. That film was remade in 1991 by Scorsese, whose version starred Robert De Niro in an Oscar-nominated performance as Cady. Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange played the Bowdens, while Juliette Lewis earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nom for her role as the Bowdens’ teenage daughter Danielle.

Back in 2023, Apple TV+ officially ordered a series adaptation of ‘Cape Fear.’ The show is set to adapt Universal’s 1991 remake of a 1962 film under the same name, which was in turn based on the 1957 novel ‘The Executioner’ written by John D. MacDonald.

The film is about a convicted rapist who uses his knowledge of the law and its loopholes to seek revenge on a former public defender. He blames the lawyer for his 14-year prison sentence, claiming the lawyer purposely sabotaged his defense during the trial.

The series is being developed by UCP and Amblin. It will be the first TV project that Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg worked on together. They are executive producers along with showrunner Nick Antosca, who has worked on shows like ‘Channel Zero’ and ‘The Act.’ Other executive producers include Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin, and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat.

The 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald was adapted twice for the big screen with both 1962’s Cape Fear and 1991’s Cape Fear, and the tale is next headed to the small screen for a television series from writer/showrunner Nick Antosca (“Channel Zero”).

THR reports today that Javier Bardem (“Monsters”) will star in the brand new Cape Fear television series, which hails from exec producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

It’s been seven years since Lynne Ramsay (pictured) last made a feature, and as a filmmaker who;s never been what you might call prolific, we’re glad we won’t be waiting too much longer for her latest project to materialise. Called Die, My Love, the film is already in production and is about “a woman driven to the brink of insanity by marriage and motherhood.”

It’s based on the novel of the same name by Ariana Harwicz and will be produced by Martin Scorsese, who you may have heard of. Die, My Love marks Ramsay’s her first film since 2017, that one being the excellent You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Exclusive: Oscar winner Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and three-time Oscar nominee Nick Nolte (The Thin Red Line) have been tapped for roles in Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s thriller based on the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz.

Details as to the duo’s roles are under wraps. The project reunites Spacek and Nolte following their work together on Affliction, the 1997 crime drama written and directed by Paul Schrader. As previously announced, Jennifer Lawerence, Robert Pattinson and Lakeith Stanfield will also star.

Set in a remote forgotten rural area, the story follows a mother (Lawrence) who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis. Pattinson will be playing her husband, and Stanfield, her lover.

Ramsay is directing from her script written with Enda Walsh. Producers on the project include Justine Ciarrocchi and Lawerence on behalf of Excellent Cadaver, as well as Martin Scorsese and Andrea Calderwood. Black Label Media is financing.

Kino Lorber has acquired the North American rights to Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada, which reteams Richard Gere with Schrader after their collaboration on American Gigolo.

Gere plays an American documentarian who relocated to Montreal as a Vietnam draft refugee and attempts to set the record straight in one final interview. The film, which portrays a man contemplating his legacy while facing the end of his life, co-stars Uma Thurman, Jacob Elordi, and Michael Imperioli and premiered in competition in Cannes.

“Oh, Canada is a stunning artistic achievement by the great Paul Schrader, a poignant, formally daring rumination on aging, memory, and mortality anchored by a commanding performance from Richard Gere,” said Kino Lorber head of theatrical acquisitions and distribution Lisa Schwartz in a statement.

Oh, Canada will screen at the Toronto Film Festival and the New York Film Festival ahead of Kino Lorber planning an awards season theatrical release this December.
