Odd though it may seem, part of the reason "Jurassic Park" endures as a blockbuster classic is surely due to its horror elements. Like director Steven Spielberg's "Jaws," the 1993 movie gets downright hair-raising at times — an experience made all the more visceral by the fact there are two young children enduring the ordeal.
Alongside Drs. Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Ellie Sattler, John Hammond's (Richard Attenborough) grandchildren find themselves stranded on Isla Nubar after the power goes down and several ravenous dinos are set free. Tim and Lex Murphy (Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards) provided a proxy for kids everywhere, putting young imaginations straight into the heart of the film and making the terrifying set-pieces all the more effective as a result.

The 2001-released Band of Brothers, an HBO miniseries, delves into the history of the Easy Company, which was part of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, and played a major role on the Western Front of World War II.
Directed by Steven Spielberg with Tom Hanks playing a cameo and acting as an executive producer, the series is widely regarded as one of the best depictions of World War II, and the intricacies of war.
Band of Brothers [Credit: HBO]Regardless, Spielberg and Hanks then came together in 2010 to create The Pacific, a companion piece of the Band of Brothers which was also well-loved for similar reasons. While the earlier series focussed on the Easy Company, The Pacific, another 10-episode HBO production, focussed on three regiments of 1st Marine Division.
In it, actor Joe Mazzello played the role of Eugene Sledge, a marine of the 5th regiment.

One of the latest thrillers to hit the ever-changing digital carousel over on Netflix is a new take on an old classic called "River Wild." Currently one of the most viewed releases on the streamer, the adventure film sends viewers hurtling down treacherous whitewater rapids in a fairly straightforward story of survivalist horror. Inspired by director Curtis Hanson's "The River Wild" starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, this most recent version mostly jettisons the character dynamics of the original 1994 film in favor of the slightly more campy teens-in-peril trope.
Unless you consider "Deliverance" to be horror adjacent (and there are plenty of reasons why that's justifiable), there is a serious drought in the number of genre films offering up high stake thrills taking place on a whitewater rafting trip gone horribly awry. "River Wild" may not necessarily live up to the original, but it does offer up another chance...

Almost exactly one year ago today, we heard that real-life couple Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, along with Taran Killam (Meester’s co-star in the TV series Single Parents) would be starring in a reimagining of the 1991 thriller The River Wild, which starred Meryl Streep, David Straithairn, and Joseph Mazzello as a family that had the bad luck of crossing paths with criminals played by Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly while on a river rafting trip. Now Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they’ll be giving the reimagining, which drops the definite article and is simply called River Wild, a digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 1st – and along with this announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer, which you can watch in the embed above!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's modern classic blockbuster "Jurassic Park." In honor of the milestone anniversary, Universal will be celebrating the original dinosaur adventure all year long, including a bunch of new merchandise for fans to collect.
Perhaps the most exciting reveal so far is a batch of new "Jurassic Park" Lego sets that finally deliver perfectly sized building brick versions of the Jurassic Park Jeep and Ford Explorer from the doomed theme park. But of course, it wouldn't be a proper "Jurassic Park" Lego collection without a batch of dinosaurs and minifigures for all the important characters from the beloved movie. There are also crucial details for fans to enjoy, such as the Barbasol shaving cream can be used to smuggle dinosaur DNA and the "one big pile of s***" that Ian Malcolm wryly comments upon while checking on a sick Triceratops.

The rate at which Steven Spielberg has pumped out classic movies over his nearly 50-year career is astounding. From his directorial debut with "The Sugarland Express" in 1974 to this year's Toronto International Film Festival People's Choice Award winner "The Fabelmans," Spielberg has put out more bonafide classics than perhaps any modern director.
"Jurassic Park" may be Spielberg's greatest film of all. The 1993 adventure film's innovative special effects, amazing score, and strong cast help it stand the test of time. On paper, it's not surprising that a Spielberg film about dinosaurs rocked. Spielberg rocks, dinosaurs rock. It adds up.
But despite having a story with an absolutely killer premise, the success of "Jurassic Park" was not pre-ordained. It still required lots of hard work on the part of the cast, crew, and Spielberg himself. Spielberg especially had to work very hard to keep his actors motivated when they had to act...

A troublesome production doesn't always mean a bad film. Case in point, "Jaws." The 159-day-long shoot went over budget and behind schedule, with many of the problems stemming from the star special effect: "Bruce" the mechanical shark. The making of "Jaws" was so eventful that there have been multiple books and a stage play recounting it. And yet, the film was still, to put it mildly, a success.
The lessons that director Steven Spielberg learned on "Jaws" influenced how he would make "Jurassic Park" almost 20 years later. According to Joseph McBride's "Steven Spielberg: A Biography," the director's goal with "Jurassic Park" was, "to make a good sequel to 'Jaws.' On land." Some unpleasant memories from the "Jaws" shoot even caused Spielberg to scrap a planned set-piece featuring a swimming T. Rex.
The Deleted T. Rex Scene
Compared to Michael Crichton's original novel, Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" is stripped down to the essentials.

Photo ‘Freddie Mercury: The Final Act’ Landing on The CW, this documentary was honestly a bumpy ride for me. It was a great documentary, very insightful, and full of clips and recordings of some of my favorite artists of the ‘70s and ‘80s. However, it was also a bit of a downer. I guess I should have expected this from a doc titled, “The Final Act,” but I guess I figured since it was Queen and my dear Freddie Mercury, how could it not be an adrenaline-pumping power ballad? And, I must admit, at parts, it still indeed was. Not only did we get to hear excerpts and performances of the entire band of Queen, but I was also ecstatic to see and hear the likes of Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, and Def Leppard. It was also incredibly refreshing to get to see these artists as they were,...

It's difficult to pick out the most iconic scene from "Jurassic Park." Steven Spielberg delivered plenty of awe-inspiring moments of beauty and wonder, but it's the moments of terror demonstrating how scary dinosaurs could be that stand out the most. The famous sequence with the velociraptors in the kitchen, in particular, may have been the root of a fair share of childhood nightmares for just how tense and suffocating it feels. According to actor Joseph Mazzello, shooting the scene presented its own set of real-life dangers, too.

The end of Jurassic Park is suspenseful and nerve-racking as velociraptors pursue Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and John Hammond’s grandchildren Lex and Tim Murphy (Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello) through the visitor center of this experiment gone terribly wrong. But the towering tyrannosaurus rex becomes a hero as it […]

Team Experience has been celebrating pets at the movies (and in our homes) all week. We'll wrap up Sunday. Here's Ginny O'Keefe...
The best kind of pet in any movie is a loyal one. And it doesn’t hurt if the pet is cute. Also, a sprinkle of badassery is always welcome. All that is nicely packaged in a yellow Labrador retriever named Maggie in 1994’s rafting/crime adventure film The River Wild. For those who haven’t seen this Streep vs. Bacon gem, Meryl plays rafting expert Gail who is forced to take two criminals (John C. Reilly and Kevin Bacon) down a dangerous river all the while trying to protect her son, Rourke (Joseph Mazzello), and husband Tom (David Straithairn). Along for the trip is Maggie. From the get-go, Maggie is sweet, bubbly and you can tell she loves her humans deeply. She’s also good at digging...

Today officially marked the first day of filming on Jurassic World 3, the hotly anticipated closer to the Jurassic World trilogy that’ll also bring the franchise full circle by getting back the original stars of Jurassic Park. Other than that casting coup, not much else had been known about the sequel before now. However, in announcing the start of the shoot, director Colin Trevorrow has unveiled the official title of the movie – Jurassic World: Dominion.
This afternoon, Trevorrow took to Twitter to share a shot of a clapperboard from the set. As you can see below, it sports the film’s logo, revealing the one-word subtitle of the piece. “Day one #Jurassic World,” is how Trevorrow captioned the image.

Colin Trevorrow has been playing a long game with the Jurassic World franchise. By reintroducing B.D Wong’s Henry Wu in the first World and then having Jeff Goldblum cameo as Ian Malcolm in Fallen Kingdom, he’s teased audiences for a full-on crossover between the casts of Jurassic Park and the modern movies, and that’s exactly what we’re going to get in Jurassic World 3. Yes, Goldblum’s back again, but so is Sam Neill’s Alan Grant and Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler.
Having the original trio back is obviously the big hook of the threequel, but they might not be the only familiar faces featuring in the film. Owen Grady himself, Chris Pratt, was asked what’s in store for JW3 while attending the premiere for his new Pixar movie, Onward. The star was careful with his words, but he did tease that “everybody...

Ever since the Jurassic Park franchise returned in 2015 with Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, one of the main criticisms of the most recent installments was an over-reliance on nostalgia. Obviously, that’s something of a recurring theme in today’s studio blockbusters given the mixed reactions to the latest Star Wars and Terminator movies, but there’s always been a fine line between breathing new life into an established brand and simply rehashing what came before.
Jurassic World may have introduced a fresh batch of characters and featured a fully-functioning park on Isla Nublar, but it still relied heavily on recognizable locations and iconography from the past. Follow-up Fallen Kingdom tried to remedy this by blowing up the whole island during the first act, but it still came off as a little too similar to original sequel The Lost World, this time with a mansion substituted in for the entire city of San Diego.

Jurassic World 3 is looking better and better every day, and it’s not even slated to hit theaters until June of 2021. Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern will be bringing back the original team of mathematician Ian Malcolm, Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, that much is a fact. You better cross your fingers though, because the kids from the original movies say they’re also open to returning.
Almost immediately upon hearing about the return of the Og three, fans went nuts and started campaigning for them to make their way back to the franchise, too. We use the term “kids” loosely here, though, as Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards are now 36 and 40 years old, respectively. They played Tim and Lex, grandchildren to Richard Attenborough’s John Hammond, in the original film. We lost Attenborough in 2014, and seeing how pretty much every other main character from...

Rami Malek has had quite the awards season run with his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” But now, with the film landing five Oscar nominations including one for Best Actor, Malek says that he’s “on cloud nine.”
“I didn’t know [the nominations were] today, but I had a feeling it might be,” Malek told TheWrap following his nomination announcement. “I’m in Paris so I’m ahead of schedule, so I didn’t have to wake up that early. It’s everything you expect it to be — I’m walking on cloud nine. It felt otherworldly. It was snowing outside, so it already felt magical, and the nomination just added to it.”
Malek doesn’t know who he will be taking to the Academy Awards, although he imagines that the entire cast will be there given how close they grew during the making of the film.

Bryan Singer’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” takes on the ride of legendary British rock band Queen, as well as the life of frontman Freddie Mercury. In the film, Queen’s record label at one time resisted releasing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” perhaps one of the band’s most famous songs, as a single — but did that really happen?
In the movie, band members Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek), Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy), Brian May (Gwilym Lee) and John Deacon (Joseph Mazzello) walk into Emi Records to play their single “Bohemian Rhapsody” of their new album, “A Night at the Opera.”
However, Emi executive Ray Foster, refuses to release the song as the band’s next single following “Killer Queen,” mainly because he didn’t understand the song and also thought a six-minute tune would never play on the radio.

The greatest visual strength of box-office hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” is conveying the evolution of Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) and Queen amid the cultural shift of the ’70s and ’80s, climaxing with the legendary Live Aid concert in 1985. However, Live Aid was actually shot first, which turned out to be a blessing for Malek and co-stars Gwilym Lee (guitarist Brian May), Ben Hardy (drummer Roger Taylor), and Joseph Mazzello (bassist John Deacon).
“It’s kind of a crazy thing to start the shoot with one of the hardest and most pivotal moments,” said Newton Thomas Sigel, director Bryan Singer’s go-to cinematographer. “But it allowed the cast to come together early and create their chemistry. I remember watching them rehearse three days before the shoot. They didn’t know each other and those four guys really jelled, just like a rock’n’roll band would.”

Fair warning: I’m not completely unbiased with this movie. Like many people, I absolutely love Queen and I think Freddie Mercury is the best showman to ever walk the Earth. When I first heard about the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, I was really excited about it and that increased after seeing a brilliant trailer. However, it’s safe to say that the reception to the movie has been mixed. A lot of critics have problems with it but personally speaking, I don’t agree with them on this one.

The rock music golden age in which Queen took off, showcased in Bohemian Rhapsody, was one we’ll probably never see again.
Even though it’s not a great film, there are a number of things about the new Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, that are quite enjoyable. Chief among them are the performance of Rami Malek as lead singer Freddie Mercury, along with the work by Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello as fellow band members Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon respectively. There’s also that climactic performance at Live Aid, which provides an electric, emotional and truly rousing finale to a movie that, while entertaining, often feels like a condensed Cliff’s Notes version of the history of one of rock’s most unique and inimitable bands.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is heading for a rhapsodic debut from 4,000 North American locations with an estimated $46 million.

Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t let Freddie Mercury actually perform until the very end. Before then, there are glimpses of performances that place lead actor Rami Malek center stage, but music’s greatest frontman deserves more than mere glimpses and simple montages that pull the plug on “Killer Queen,” “Fat Bottom Girls,” and “Another One Bites the Dust” far too quickly. I’ll admit that there was a certain pep in my step walking out of Bohemian Rhapsody, but that’s what happens when “Don’t Stop Me Now” plays as the credits rock and roll.
Starting and ending with the triumphant Live Aid concert, Rhapsody is much more the story of Queen than it is of its headliner. Beginning in 1970 with a flamboyant and teeth-riddled Freddie meeting up with the band that his charisma would soon turn into Queen, the film hits the basic checkpoints along a 15-year-long musical highway.

Put Rami Malek high on the last for best film performances of 2018. As Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the British band Queen, the Mr. Robot star performs miracles, catching the look, strut and soul of Mercury, who died of complications from AIDS in 1991. Sadly, the film itself shows signs of a difficult birth. Sacha Baron Cohen was set to play Mercury before he left over creative differences. And director Bryan Singer (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) was fired for not showing up on set (an uncredited Dexter Fletcher replaced him).
