Ask nearly anyone to describe Mr. T. and you’ve got the same description: the mohawk, the gold jewelry, the tank top, the muscles…It’s so distinct that it must be planned. And it is. But we bet you couldn’t tell us the significance of any of it: what the mohawk and chains symbolize, what the “T” really means deep down. And we bet you couldn’t tell us Mr. T.’s real name if your mama’s life depended on it. Is it for Tender? Or Tough? Maybe a little of both, depending on if he’s spitting motivational phrases or ready to whoop some butt at the club.
But rest assured, every move of Mr. T.’s – ever since being discovered by Sylvester Stallone – has been calculated, whose presence and aura – despite being tied to one specific moment in time – remains unforgettable. And yet, we know so little about the man.

I love The A-Team (which we also covered on an episode of Gone But Not Forgotten). I grew up watching the series and had the toys, the Mr. T Cereal, the whole bit. I wasn’t unlike many of my Gen X brothers and sisters in that regard. It was fun, insane, action-packed, and Murdock was my guy.
Over the last few decades, we’ve seen many of these 70s and 80s TV series be redone as feature films or new series for television. The Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, and the list goes on and on. Typically these films are done as just pure comedy. There are the two I just mentioned plus Land of the Lost…and in the case of these three they didn’t stick the landing.

Can the Rocky franchise ever be complete without ‘Mickey Loves You’? Well, actor Sylvester Stallone reportedly planned on wrapping up the sports drama franchise with Rocky III, wanting to finish up the character’s arc in a trilogy. After the worldwide success of the first film, Stallone hopped on the director’s chair for the sequels and planned a great ending.
Stallone was on the brink of giving up on his dreams when he wrote the screenplay for Rocky and sold it for a chance at starring in the sports drama. What was then a small-budget film became a worldwide phenomenon and the highest-grossing film of 1976. It spawned multiple sequels and a spinoff film centered on Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed’s son.

Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived animated series “Gravedale High” (aka “Rick Moranis in Gravedale High“), which aired on NBC in 1990.
During the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons, there was always this idea by studios to build on a big star’s name by giving them an animated vehicle. We saw it with Mr. T, Chuck Norris, Macaulay Culkin, and Gary Coleman, as well as comedians like Louie Anderson and Howie Mandel. John Candy got (the still celebrated) “Camp Candy,” while his Sctv colleague Rick Moranis headlined his own animated horror comedy series for kids: “Gravedale High.”
Rick Moranis garnered immense fame and cult status in the eighties and nineties with an iconic comedy career that carried over into big films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. As a means of marketing off his momentum, an animated series was developed by NBC...

At the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Usher soaked up the limelight as the Kansas City Chiefs became back-to-back champions with their overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.
And of course, the Super Bowl was again a venue for dozens of advertisers — who spent up to $7 million for a 30-second spot in CBS’s telecast — to try to break through on the noisiest night on TV. Many marketers used the time-tested tactic of deploying star-studded commercials, a phenomenon described by one ad exec as “a celebrity arms race.”
As tracked by YouTube, the No. 1 most-watched spot on Super Bowl Sunday was Tina Fey’s turn for Booking.com, in which the “Saturday Night Live” alum hires “body doubles” to imagine different versions of herself on vacation. Sylvester Stallone paid tribute today to Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and died Thursday at 76.
In an emotional Instagram video post (watch it below), the three-time Oscar nominee recalled his longtime friend in a sometimes-quivering voice: “”My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. … He was magic, and I was fortunate to be part of his life. … Rest in power and keep punching.”
Standing in front of an abstract painting from their Rocky days in the ring, Stallone says in the video: “Hello, everyone. Today is an incredibly sad day for me. … Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life which he says everything about it. I give him incredible credit …. because when he walked into that room, and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t realize how great.

During its first three seasons on NBC, Stephen J. Cannell's "The A-Team" was one of the most popular shows on television. Critics dismissed it as mindless trash, but its 1983 premiere perfectly captured the gung-ho Reagan-era zeitgeist. The idea of a crack commando unit on the run from a government that did them dirty in the Vietnam War played to the country's bitterness over the mistreatment of veterans. Many Americans wanted to see the American military kick butt again, and what better way to scratch that itch than to build a series around a group of wrongly disgraced heroes?
The challenge for Cannell was satisfying his audience's bloodlust while observing the network's mandate that, due to its family-friendly 8 Pm timeslot, the good guys couldn't kill anybody. Could they fire off loads of cool-looking firearms or turn a bamboo into a bazooka? Absolutely! They just had to make sure their...

Much like Daniel Larusso went from underdog to All-Valley karate champion, "Cobra Kai" has gone from a legasequel no one asked for or had too much faith in, to one of Netflix's biggest hits. The TV sequel to "Karate Kid" became a shining beacon amidst the fast-decaying YouTube Red streaming platform, offering a thrilling, compelling, and endlessly watchable story with complex characters and a fascinating story of legacy, rivalry, and generational patterns. All of this wrapped in a juicy karate-themed soap opera where everything and everyone revolved around the martial art.
When the show made the jump to Netflix, it became the closest thing to a live-action anime that we've got. Somehow, just like the "John Wick" movies revealed that the entire planet revolves around hitmen, "Cobra Kai" does the same with karate. Gangs are formed around competing dojos, no one seems to call the cops even when houses...

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire ... the A-Team."
So ran the narration at the beginning of the title sequence for the 1983 TV series "The A-Team." The "if you can find them" part always elicited titters from certain younger viewers, as the A-Team's devotion to helping people out as soldiers of fortune clearly didn't extend to being easy to reach. The A-Team was composed of five members, including the leader Hannibal (George Peppard), the charming Templeton "Faceman" Peck (Dirk Benedict), the zany "Howling Mad" Murdoch (Dwight Schultz), and their black Gmc Vandura van.

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 22
For their 750th episode, The Simpsons pulls out all the stops, and adds a dangerous curve, but never quite gets in full gear. “Homer’s Adventures Through the Windshield Glass” is ambitious, cramming 750 characters into the opening sequence, jamming with Lizzo to the beat of a slap-happy Homer in the end, and spending the creamy middle somewhere between heaven and hell. It is a very creative episode, teasing a glimpse of paradise which turns into the purgatory of a lukewarm season finale which was cooked on all burners.
While couch gags can foretell mediocre episodes, the full opening sequence, complete with a chalkboard gag, is always a welcome sight. The cramming of all the Springfield residents, characters, and celebrity guests, is expertly layered. Even Homer’s crash through the garage reveals greater wonders as Fat Tony and Mr. T can be seen through the splinters.

Indeed, all of the biggest names in sports have graced Studio 8H for a night of laughs and gags, including Bill Russell, John Madden, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Dwayne Johnson.
While the vast majority of hosts from the world of sports have been male, three female athletes have also entertained audiences: Chris Evert, Nancy Kerrigan and Ronda Rousey. When you watch a "Rocky" movie, it's easy to get swept up in the sweeping boxing matches. How could you not, when the Italian Stallion is up against larger-than-life opponents like Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), Clubber Lang (Mr. T), and Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren)? But while the fights are the main attraction, it's the moments in between that provide a greater emotional connection to the plight of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to succeed against incredible odds.

Danny Duncan‘s latest product lets people grow their very own miniature version of him.
Or, at least, they’ll be able to grow things on their very own miniature version of him: The YouTuber, ice cream purveyor, and maker of risqué merch is releasing a custom Chia Pet.
The pet—a terracotta planter copy of Duncan’s head in the traditional Chia Pet style—drops today on Duncan’s ecommerce hub dannyduncan69.com. They cost 30 each, and the production run is “extremely limited in quantity,” Duncan’s rep tells Tubefilter.
Each Chia Pet Duncan comes with three plantings’ worth of Chia seeds, a plastic drip tray, and planting and care instructions. The company says it’ll reach max growth between one and two weeks after the seeds are spread.

After Mr. T found unexpected overnight success thanks to his scene-stealing performance in Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky III, television was quick to come calling, looking to capitalize. And it did in a big way with The A-Team, a tongue-in-cheek action show about a team of mercenaries trying to clear their names. Mr. T and his co-stars, including George Peppard, Dwight Shultz and Dirk Benedict, played by their own rules, both on-camera and off, and Mr. T told us that their rebellious nature is what he’ll always remember most about making the show. There are generally two main schools of thought on "Rocky IV:" You can bemoan how ridiculous the franchise had become since the grittiness of the Oscar-winning original film, or celebrate it for finally shrugging off all semblance of reality to become such a glorious example of '80s excess. I say life is too short for the former and, while it is the most thinly plotted of the series to that point, I still love "Rocky IV" for the bombastic sports cartoon that it is.
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is no longer just the lovable slugger from Philly; now he is a boxing superhero whose powers are an indestructible head and indefatigable spirit, a man so full of good intentions that he can even win the hearts of those stony-faced Russians in the death throes of the Cold War. That is where we end up in "Rocky IV." Having...

One of the most iconic shows of the 1980s was, without a doubt, The A-Team. Starring screen veteran George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz, and the legendary Mr. T, the show premiered in January 1983 and became a pop culture phenomenon. It helped that the show came out hot on the heels of Rocky III, with Mr. T already in the zeitgeist for playing the unforgettable villain, Clubber Lang. Here, as B.A. Baracus, T would adopt a much more family-friendly persona. While he was the breakout star, audiences also loved Peppard as Hannibal, the wannabe actor mastermind, Benedict as Faceman, the ladies’ man, and Schultz as Murdock, the crazy one. The story of an underground crew of Nam vets who are framed for a crime they didn’t commit, the show ran for five seasons before slipping out of fashion towards the end of the decade when the mix of...

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who followed in the footsteps of the iconic Mr. T to play B.A. Baracus in the 2010 version of The A-Team, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission: Impossible III), and model Sonia Couling star in the World War II horror film Operation Blood Hunt, which recently wrapped production in Bangkok, Thailand. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Operation Blood Hunt is described as being like “Predator meets The Dirty Dozen meets Underworld“.

What do you do when your underdog is no longer the underdog? That was the challenge Sylvester Stallone faced when it came to writing "Rocky III"; now his loveable slugger from Philadelphia was heavyweight champion after defeating Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in the previous film. Stallone's solution, at least at first, was to go out with a massive bang.
"Rocky III" marks the point when the franchise crosses over into cartoonish excess, although Stallone's original concept for the film makes what we got look like a slice of kitchen sink realism. In a couple of interviews with Roger Ebert after "Rocky II," Stallone talked about his plan to end the Rocky Balboa saga with the third film, taking the "half-blind" champ to Europe to face his latest rival in the greatest gladiatorial arena in the world, the Roman Colosseum. Not only that, he'd get to train on the Spanish Steps...

In 1976, an unknown actor named Sylvester Stallone introduced the world to Rocky Balboa and his eternal struggle to prove himself. The story of a down-and-out underachiever going toe-to-toe with the world's greatest boxer charmed audiences and propelled Stallone into a long career of portraying heroic, larger-than-life characters. Even after playing the lead character in classics like "First Blood" and "Demolition Man," Sly's most popular character will always be Balboa.
After falling in love with Rocky in the first film, audiences followed the southpaw through five more films, where he battled a slew of increasingly large and violent opponents. Balboa doesn't win every fight, but he always dedicates himself to the pursuit of victory and provides audiences with an inspiring, feel good story. However, after four films of this formula, Stallone was ready for a change.

When people described the cast of characters on The A-Team back in the ’80s, the word “ragtag” was thrown around quite a bit, reflecting the bizarrely diverse personalities of the four lead roles. As different as the characters were, though, the actors who played them — George Pappard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Shultz, and Mr. T — were all on the same page. Speaking at a fan event, Benedict said the chemistry between the cast members was both extraordinary and immediate, as they all found different ways to bond with each other.(Click on the media bar below to hear Dirk Benedict) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Dirk_Benedic_At_Team-Cast_.mp3

It takes a certain amount of expertise to build a narrative without telling the audience everything as soon as possible. In Montana Story, filmmakers Scott McGehee and David Siegel demonstrate incredible restraint and a hefty trust in their audience. The basic premise: two siblings converge to face old sins and lingering scars as their father lies comatose in the final days of his life. McGehee and Siegel have been turning out impressive pictures for thirty years; this is their most nuanced to date.

Cal (Owen Teague) arrives on a large Montana spread, his long face and hesitant gait foretelling what his father’s large wooden, picturesque home holds. When he enters, an overbearing beeping sound arises, and a kind-spoken Kenyan nurse named Ace (Gilbert Owuor) greets him. Cal’s father had a stroke. He’s now lying in the living room in a permanent coma attached to life support. The ranch isn’t in much better shape: A lapsed mortgage, no cattle, a 25-year-old stallion on its last legs, and a few chickens account for what remains.
Cal tries to shoulder the burden alone until his estranged sister Erin (a profound Haley Lu Richardson) makes an unannounced appearance. The pair haven’t spoken for seven years. Back then, Erin outed their father in the school paper as a lawyer covering up a toxic mess at a local mine. Their father attacked her, beating her nearly to death,...

Paul Orndorff, aka “Mr. Wonderful,” one of the greats from the World Wrestling Federation’s 1980s heyday, has died. He was 71.
His son Travis made the announcement Monday on Instagram, where he has documented his father’s recent health struggles.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Paul Parlette Orndorff Jr,” wrote the younger Orndorff. “He is better known as “Mr. #1derful” Paul Orndorff.”
Orndorff was instantly recognizable in the ring for his impressive build and blond hair, but his son said friends and family loved him for something else.
“Most of you will remember him for his physique,” he wrote. “Many will remember his intensity. But if I could only get you to understand and see his heart.”
Orndorff came up in the Southern wrestling circuit, and signed with the WWE predecessor World Wrestling Federation in late 1983, where “Rowdy” Roddy Piper became his manager.

Ice-t drives an electric car. He has solar panels on his house. “I’m not a fanatic when it comes to the environment, but I definitely try to do my part,” says the actor and musician.
Now he’s working to help Tide clean up some of TV advertising’s most well-worn elements.
Most ads for laundry detergent and other wash-and-dry accoutrements have relied for decades on the same themes. Someone pours a cup of blue liquid on a stained piece of clothing, and after a simulated wash and rinse, the garment comes out looking spotless and new. But in a new campaign that Tide parent Procter & Gamble hopes will have many cycles, Ice-t and professional wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin have something more grandiose to offer.

There’s something for everyone in the Rocky franchise. For those after Oscar-winning prestige cinema and romance, there’s the original film. If you crave a goofy popcorn flick featuring Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, Rocky III has you covered. Looking for a hard-hitting contemporary story about race and class? Creed is the only option. But if you want what’s basically the 1980s distilled into a single movie, it’s difficult to beat Rocky IV.
This finds Rocky Balboa squaring off against Ivan Drago, the Ussr’s finest boxer. The pair represent their nations in a titanic battle of East vs. West, with Rocky also seeking to avenge the death of his former rival Apollo Creed. It’s an extremely cheesy tale that’s worlds away from the down-at-heel realism the story began with, perhaps best demonstrated by Rocky’s friend Paulie now having a robot girlfriend.

“Critical Thinking” is one of those up-from-the-streets high-school competition movies where just mentioning the true story it’s based on kind of gives the game away. Set in 1998, it’s about the five chess wizards from Miami Jackson High who became the first inner-city chess team to win the National Championship. Boom! But, of course, it’s how they got there that matters, and even if this movie weren’t based on a true story, you’d know more or less know where it’s going. “Critical Thinking” has some appealing young actors, and it’s been directed, by John Leguizamo (who costars as the film’s tough-saint teacher), in a way that gives them the space to clown around and then get serious.

Following my list of the Ten Best WrestleMania Matches of the 1990s, I was sent down a rabbit-hole of watching every WrestleMania again and figured it might be cool to do the same for the 80s. Now, the 80s doesn’t have as many matches to choose from like the 90s did, and the 00s and 2010s will, but there’s still five WrestleMania events to dive into, so I thought it would be cool either way. Plus… there are some damn fine matches to be found in those first five Mania events. Sure… the workrate in many areas of the WWF during that time wasn’t as great as it would become, but there’s still plenty of iconic and entertaining matches, many featuring the same group of guys. So, here it is, my top ten of the best WrestleMania Matches of the 1980s.

Although stars love to get sentimental over their mamas, there’s something special about the fearsome, badass maternal figures of rock & roll — whether it’s LL Cool J’s mama telling him to knock you out, or Rosalita’s mama chasing Bruce Springsteen off the porch with a broom. The Discovery-owned cable network said it will unveil an eight-episode series with the working title “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook.” The show will feature Schumer and her husband, professional chef Chris Fischer, in thirty-minute self-shot episodes that show the pair cooking dishes while isolated due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Fischer will do most of the cooking using farm fresh ingredients, while Schumer wil mix cocktails.

One of the lesser-discussed properties that Disney acquired when they bought 20th Century Fox was The A-Team. The classic 1980s TV show was last adapted for the big screen by The Grey director Joe Carnahan back in 2010, with Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley as the titular team.
That film received mixed reviews and just about squeaked into profitability, though on rewatch it’s a perfectly serviceable action movie. Now, Disney is reportedly considering another stab at a big screen adaptation of the franchise. However, where the 2010 film recast the TV show’s characters, the Mouse House is apparently taking a different tack.
