It’s been a long time coming, but the first film from Gareth Evans in over a half a decade is finally set for release in 2025. Getting here has been quite the road.

Gareth Evans made a huge impact on 21st century action cinema in 2011 when he wrote and directed The Raid, which introduced the world not only to the fierce Indonesian martial art of Pencak Silat, but also to Iko Uwais, who dispatched body after body with brutal efficiency. 2014’s The Raid 2 upped the ante on the violence considerably, letting characters like Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl loose and featuring quite possibly the best prison brawl this century.

Netflix is ready to release a thrilling action thriller that promises to stretch the genre’s boundaries. “Havoc,” starring Tom Hardy and directed by Gareth Evans, will give an exciting cinematic experience in 2025.

The film follows Hardy’s character, Detective Walker, on a desperate rescue mission involving the nephew of the city mayor. When a drug deal goes out of control, Walker must negotiate a difficult urban setting to save the politician’s son.

Director Gareth Evans, best known for his work on The Raid, brings his characteristic high-intensity action choreography to the film. Tony Todd, the “Candyman” star who appeared in more than 240 movies and TV shows, died November 6. He was 69.

The actor’s representatives confirmed news of his death to TheWrap; no information about the cause has been made public. The actor was “an amazing man and I will miss him every single day,” Jeffrey Goldberg, Todd’s manager of over 40 years, told TheWrap.

Todd starred as the killer in “Candyman” and the movie’s sequel, but the actor’s prolific career included arcs on “The Young and the Restless” and “24” as well as episodes of “Hawaii Five-0,” “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Young Justice.”

Todd also starred in several “Star Trek” shows, including “The Next Generation,” “Voyager” and “Deep Space Nine.” In the “Star Trek” franchise he’s best known for portraying the Klingon Kurn, brother of Worf (Michael Dorn).

Diego Luna finished filming his final scenes as Cassian Andor months ago, but Andor Season 2 still hasn't been given an official release date. Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited film “Megalopolis” faced challenges during its opening weekend showing in over 1,800 theaters nationwide. The $120 million production, which Coppola financed himself, earned a disappointing $4 million between Friday and Sunday. This fell short of projections that forecast $5-7 million for its first three days of wide release.

“Megalopolis” failed to crack the top five movies at the domestic box office. It came in sixth place, behind blockbusters still drawing large audiences as well as newer movies that managed higher turnout. The animated feature “The Wild Robot” led as the number one film with $35 million. Even the Indian production “Devara Part 1” outgrossed Coppola’s film, taking the fourth spot with $3.4 million.

MSNBC has ordered a new documentary series, featuring a slew of boldface names that will serve as narrators and participants.

The four-part series from NBC News Studios and MSNBC Films, My Generation, will feature interviews and archival footage to explore each of the four generations that make up the vast majority of Americans: Baby Boomers (born 1946 to 1964), Generation X (born 1965 to 1981), Millennials (born 1981 to 1996) and Gen Z (born after 1997).

Each episode will feature celebrity narrators who are from that generation to walk viewers through their experiences.

The Baby Boomer episode will be narrated by Forest Whitaker, and explores those who grew up in the shadow of world events like the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the assassinations of JFK, Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy.

The Generation X episode will be narrated by Ethan Hawke, and will feature interviews with Tony Hawk, Alyssa Milano, and Richard Linklater.

The King of Kings is set to rise next Easter.

Blue Harbor Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the faith-based animated movie and intends to release it in theaters over Easter holiday. It did not reveal an exact date, though the holiday falls on the April 18-20 weekend next year.

The film is loosely based on “The Life of Our Lord,” a posthumously published Charles Dickens short story that focuses on the life and times of Jesus Christ. Kenneth Branagh voice stars as Dickens, while Oscar Isaac voices Jesus. Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan and Roman Griffin Davis also voice star.

Exclusive: Emmy nominee Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil: Born Again) has boarded Darren Aronofsky’s Sony crime thriller Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler, in a supporting role.

D’Onofrio’s role is under wraps, as have been all supporting parts thus far. Based on the books by Charlie Huston, who adapted the screenplay, the film follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s NYC.

Variety is reporting that The Ritual — a new horror film starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens — has been sold to numerous outlets in the international market by XYZ Films. Both Pacino and Stevens will be portraying priests in the exorcism movie, while Ashley Greene and Abigail Cowen join them in the cast. David Midell is helming the film. Midell directs from a script written by himself and is co-written by Enrico Natale. The film is produced by Andrew Stevens, Mitchell Welch and Natale. The Ritual plans for release sometime in 2025.

“The Ritual,” the upcoming exorcism horror in which Al Pacino and Dan Stevens play troubled priests, has sold out for most international territories by XYZ Films.

From director David Midell, the film was written by Midell and Enrico Natale, and produced by Andrew Stevens, Mitchell Welch and Natale. Ashley Greene and Abigail Cowen round out the cast.

XYZ, which has been quietly growing its own releasing arm on top of its sales operations, is planning a U.S. theatrical release in 2025.

Lionsgate quickly seeks to rectify their controversial marketing blunder from a couple of weeks ago. The upcoming epic fantasy film from Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis, is certainly building an interesting buzz. Coppola, a filmmaker with an outside-the-box vision, made a film that studios couldn’t figure out how to promote to a mainstream audience. Lionsgate got the distribution deal and attempted to stay ahead of the negative word-of-mouth by releasing a trailer that featured alleged harsh quotes from critics when Coppola’s beloved past films had come out.

The studio was quickly called out for manifesting these quotes used in the trailer an pulled it from their official outlets. Lionsgate would also issue an apology. “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis,” said a Lionsgate spokesperson. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process.
