Moana 2 Box Office (North America): 5th Thursday Update (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Moana 2 is still on roll as it surpasses The Passion of the Christ and Spider-Man 3 at the US box office. The Disney sequel has experienced a significant jump from last week, following the Christmas on Thursday. Although it has lost hundreds of theatres, it maintains its strong legs. Scroll below for the deets.
The Passion of the Christ was released in 2004, and it was directed by Mel Gibson. The movie featured Jim Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth, Maia Morgenstern as Mary, and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene. It achieved several accolades and new records at the box office, including being the highest-grossing R-rate film in the US. However, Deadpool & Wolverine broke that record this year. The movie collected $370.78 million in the US and $241.27 million overseas. Therefore, the film’s global total is $612.06 million.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a stunning conclusion for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy and one of Marvel Studios' biggest hits ever!
The 2021 movie picks up immediately after the shocking cliffhanger to Spider-Man: Far From Home. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is horrified when the late Mysterio manages to release a doctored video blaming Spidey for Mysterio's own crimes. It also has him revealing his true identity as Peter Parker. That has Peter briefly arrested.
Thankfully, with aid from Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Peter was exonerated from crimes but still dealing with everyone knowing who he was. That put pressure on him, Mj (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Peter was convinced that MIT wouldn't accept him or his friends because of this and needed help.
Caution: This article contains obvious Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Which Hangover Role Did Paul Rudd & Jack Black Turn Down? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Picture this: Paul Rudd as Phil in The Hangover. Wild, right? But nope, it almost happened, and then… it didn’t. Director Todd Phillips, the man behind The Hangover madness, initially wanted Rudd for the role that eventually went to Bradley Cooper. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Rudd and Jack Black passed on the chance to join the chaos of The Hangover crew. Why? Well, reasons. Scheduling conflicts, creative choices, whatever it was, didn’t click.
Todd Phillips had a challenging casting journey. While Ed Helms snagged the perfect role as the relatable, everyman Stu, Phillips struggled to find the other characters. He first envisioned a brother-in-law character played by someone like Jonah Hill. As per The Things, Todd eventually looked at Jake Gyllenhaal and Thomas Haden Church before landing on Zach Galifianakis. The result? Alan became the standout character,...

Alexander Payne had modest expectations for Sideways when his unassuming indie about an antic-filled buddy road trip through idyllic California wine country hit theaters in the fall of 2004. With an estimated budget of $16 million, the film wound up raking in more than $100 million worldwide and an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay — in addition to nominations for best picture, best director and best supporting actor (Thomas Haden Church) and actress (Virginia Madsen).
“As we were making Sideways, I thought it was just a nice little comedy and had no idea that it would ever stand the test of time,” says Payne. “And the merlot line that supposedly changed the wine industry? Well, it was just a joke, one single line in a movie. Who could have ever predicted that?”

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Daniel Craig is urging Netflix to release the third “Knives Out” film in theaters.
Craig, who stars as detective Benoit Blanc in the Rian Johnson franchise, told Variety that he hopes the upcoming third installment “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” will get a theatrical release — and ideally for longer than just one week like what its predecessor had.
After the first “Knives Out” film was released by Lionsgate in 2019 and became a box office hit, Netflix made a deal with writer/director Johnson to produce two sequels for the platform. The first follow-up, 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” made history as the widest release ever for Netflix. The film also was the first Netflix movie to screen in AMC and Regal locations after the streamer partnered with AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas, and Cinemark for “Glass Onion” to open in 600 theaters.

“An enjoyable blast of cartoonishly violent mayhem, Twisted Metal sometimes struggles to flesh out its source material, but ultimately offers an adaptation with surprising depth.” This is the summary that Rotten Tomatoes used to describe the first season of Twisted Metal, Peacock’s adaptation of the popular video game series that premiered back in 2023.

The mainstream film industry seems like it’s finally ready to accept that animation can also be used to tell adult-oriented stories, but there are still very few animators that specialize in creating hand-crafted frights. In fact, most of the popular spooky animated films out there were actually directed by the same legendary filmmaker – the insanely talented Henry Selick.
However, after making it big in the ’90s with The Nightmare Before Christmas (as well as the less successful but still entertaining James and the Giant Peach), Selick decided that it was time to try his luck with live-action storytelling, a decision that led to the infamous 2001 flop Monkeybone. However, despite the film’s reputation as a nearly incomprehensible mess, today I’d like to discuss how this oddball production might still appeal to modern-day horror fans.

Earlier this year, writer/director Rian Johnson got his latest film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – which, as you can glean from the title, is indeed the latest installment in the series of murder mysteries that Johnson began with Knives Out in 2019 and continued with Glass Onion in 2022 – through production. This time around, Craig’s co-stars include Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Glenn Close (Dangerous Liaisons), Mila Kunis (Black Swan), Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus), Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3). Spider-Man: No Way Home was a critical and commercial hit, grossing a massive $1.9 billion at the worldwide box office. However, as much as we all love the movie, it's hard to deny that there are some flaws.
Those primarily stem from the impact Covid-19 had on the threequel; neither Rhys Ifans nor Thomas Haden Church were able to visit the movie's set, for example, leading to footage from The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 being recycled. There was also a lot of green screen.
Tom Holland quite rightly remains proud of what they achieved with the 2021 blockbuster but reveals in a new interview that Covid negatively impacted his experience and presented many unwanted challenges.
"One of the unfortunate things about Spider-Man[: No Way Home] was we shot it in peak Covid times," he recalls. "We shot everything in a studio which meant, I think in the process of making that film,...

Andrew Garfield first played Peter Parker in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. Two years later, the actor reprised the role for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, only for Sony Pictures to pull the rug out from under him by scrapping two sequels and a Sinister Six spin-off.
Even when the movies themselves let him down, it was clear Garfield loved Spider-Man but the odds of him ever returning to the role seemed slim. Then, Spider-Man: No Way Home changed everything.
In the Marvel Studios blockbuster, Garfield shared the screen with the McU's Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and their predecessor, Tobey Maguire.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was full of unforgettable moments, but the official MCU debut of Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock surely ranks alongside Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective returns.
While we only saw Cox as Matt (leaving us to continue waiting for the day Daredevil finally crosses paths with Spider-Man), the scene was made even more special by the actor sharing the screen with Jon Favreau.
While he's now best known for playing Happy Hogan and directing Iron Man, Favreau was the Foggy Nelson to Ben Affleck's Man Without Fear in 2003's ill-fated Daredevil.
Talking at the Tampa Bay Comic Con recently, Cox said, "In Spider-Man I got to do a scene with Jon Favreau, who I love. He also plays Foggy in that film [Daredevil 2003]. I'm not sure if it made it into the movie in the end, but we tried to get a pun in,...

Most of the nation’s critics were positive on “Collateral.” Todd McCarthy in Variety wrote, “This intensely focused piece soars not only on the director’s precision-tooled style but also on the outstanding interplay between leads Cruise and Foxx.” Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times called the film “a rare thriller that’s as much character study as sound and fury.” And Peter Travers in Rolling Stone said, “Mann hits a new peak, orchestrating action, atmosphere and...

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. Here we go:
Title
Johnson got the title Knives Out from a Radiohead song. When it came time to make the sequel Glass Onion, he got the title from a song by The Beatles. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England,...

It’s already been two decades since “Sideways” pals Miles and Jack toured the Santa Inez Valley north of Santa Barbara and Miles, played by Paul Giamatti, declared, “I am not drinking any fucking merlot!”
But what did Miles and Jack, played by Thomas Haden Church, drink instead of merlot, which was deemed too mundane for their elevated tastes? Pinot noir, and lots of it! Marvel Studios' Ryan Meinerding Shares New Look At Spider-man's Comic-Accurate Suit From No Way Home
In Spider-Man: No Way Home's closing moments, Peter Parker moved into a Manhattan apartment following the death of his Aunt May. The hero then swung through New York City's skyscrapers in a classic costume which appeared to ditch the many gadgets typically created for him by Tony Stark.
It took three movies but, with that, the MCU finally had a Spider-Man more in line with his comic book counterpart.
The suit had only seconds of screentime but has since been added to the Spider-Man 2 video game and turned into action figures courtesy of companies like Hasbro and Hot Toys.
Ryan Meinerding, Character Designer, Creative Director, and Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development, was at Comic-Con in San Diego this past weekend and hyped up his appearance with a gorgeous piece of artwork.

"Tombstone" may now be considered one of the most beloved Westerns of the late twentieth century, but the film had an incredibly rocky path from the page to the big screen. "Tombstone" was intended to be the directorial debut of "Glory" screenwriter Kevin Jarre, but when he fell behind schedule a month into the shoot, producer Andrew Vajna fired him and brought in veteran helmer George P. Cosmatos ("Rambo: First Blood Part II" and "Leviathan") to ostensibly drag the movie to the finish line.
We've since learned that, after Jarre's departure, the driving creative force on "Tombstone" was star Kurt Russell. Cast as legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, Russell brought a semblance of order to the wayward production by streamlining the lengthy screenplay with producer Jim Jacks. His instincts proved plenty sharp. By foregrounding the unlikely friendship forged between Earp and the tuberculosis-stricken gambler/gunman Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer in one...

Chapter 2 of Kevin Costner’s Western epic Horizon: An American Saga won’t be released in August after all.
Nobody can accuse Kevin Costner of being lazy. He has financed, produced, co-written, directed and co–starred in Horizon: An American Saga, which was conceived as a four film series, each one pushing the three hour mark.
Chapter 1 was released in the UK last month, and the plan was to release Chapter 2 in August.
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the second film has been pulled from the release schedule. The reason given is the lacklustre box office reciepts for the first film, which took $20 million against a budget of $100 million.
It seems the plan is to encourage people to discover Horizon at home, so anticipation can build for the second film.

As Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir (now seemingly titled Spider-Noir) live-action series sets about casting its supporting players, we may know one of the villains Nicolas's Cage's take on the Depression-era wall-crawler will be up against.
According to Daniel Richtman, a version of Flint Marko, aka The Sandman, will appear in the show. We don't know if this is the character Brendan Gleeson will play or if Marko will be the main bad guy, but we'd say he will more likely be a secondary antagonist.
If the show follows the comics, this version of The Sandman will be a little more grounded than the one played by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3 and No Way Home. Though he still has superpowers, they only allow him to turn his body into solid stone, making him impervious to injury.

It sounds like the Spider-Man Noir live-action series on Amazon is really shaping up to be something unique! Set in 1930s New York City, this time, the focus is interestingly not Peter Parker. The mention of it being set in its own universe also adds intrigue.

In 2015, Netflix acquired the indie horror film “Circle,” which saw 50 strangers trapped in a room and forced to decide who would be the one survivor through a series of votes and debates about the worth of each human life.

Ever since we first learned the title of Rian Johnson's next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, we've had a sneaking suspicion that Benoit Blanc's latest outing might be an altogether much darker affair than his last, 2022's sun soaked murder-mystery Glass Onion. And if our first look at Daniel Craig's southern sleuther in the upcoming threequel is anything to go by, then we may just be right. Taking to Twitter earlier today to commemorate his first day of shooting on the film, writer-director Johnson shared a brooding black-and-white shot of Craig's Blanc suited up, hair down, and holding onto a new hat. Check it out below;
It's certainly not giving Benoit Blanc in his stripy swimming costume living it up on a billionaire's private island now, is it? Sporting long hair, a dapper three-piece suit, and a decidedly forlorn expression, it looks like Blanc means business this third time around.
