Alex Cross, the character from author James Patterson’s popular crime thriller series, is getting a refresh by way of Prime Video’s Cross. In the eight-episode mystery series written and created by Ben Watkins, actor Aldis Hodge takes over the role of the Black detective, solving crimes in Washington, D.C., alongside fellow officer and best friend John Samson, played by Isaiah Mustafa.
“In talking to Ben, I really liked the vision and what he wanted to do with it to make Alex more contemporary, more of a cop dealing with the real world right now,” Patterson tells The Hollywood Reporter of giving his blessing to Watkins for his take on the characters Patterson first created in the 1993 novel Along Came a Spider.
Hodge is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first played him onscreen in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and...

For a seemingly very brief period of time, Bruce Lee was one of the most electric personalities in pop culture; a vibrant, intense ball of fire who left the world just as he was becoming one of its most interesting personalities. While he is something of a mythic figure now, more of an image in our minds than a person who actually lived and breathed, Bruce was, like the rest of us, a person who went through highs and lows, who had flaws and inner demons. While a man unlike any other, he was also still just a man.
When he left us far too soon at the age of 32 from a still-disputed ailment, his legend has only grown… Of course, it was inevitable that his wild life would become fodder for a biopic, and in 1993 – twenty years after his death – we finally got one: Rob Cohen’s Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

James Patterson’s Alex Cross book series is heading to the screen once again, and here’s the trailer for Cross.
Thus far, James Patterson’s Alex Cross action thriller novels have only been seen on the big screen. Morgan Freeman first took on the role of the detective for 1997’s Kiss the Girls, directed by Gary Fleder, and 2001’s Along Came A Spider, directed by Lee Tamahori. Both were well received and feature strong casts, including Ashley Judd, Carey Elwes and Michael Wincott.
A reboot landed in 2012, directed by Rob Cohen and starring Tyler Perry. However, Alex Cross was a critical and commercial failure, and plans for a sequel were dropped.
That brings us to Cross, a television series coming to Amazon Prime Video which follows Reacher's template of using the protagonist’s surname as the title.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) is a detective and forensic psychologist,...

When the Jennifer Lopez-led erotic thriller "The Boy Next Door" was released in 2015, it was deemed a commercial success at the box office. However, the Rob Cohen-directed film failed to impress critics, as its on-the-nose camp factor did little to ground the clichéd narrative, despite Lopez delivering a memorable performance to salvage its flimsy premise. Well, it seems as though "The Boy Next Door" has been granted another chance, as the erotic thriller has found its way into the U.S. Netflix Top 10 list over the past few weeks. Given its immense popularity among moviegoers when it was first released in theaters, it is not surprising that audiences appreciate the entertainment quotient and the thrills offered by this twisted tale of obsession.
The Netflix-JLo combination usually works well in terms of audience popularity, as her sci-fi action-thriller "Atlas" also reigned the Netflix Top 10 charts for quite some time...

If you're a big fan of trashy, popular airport mystery paperbacks, you probably know who James Patterson and Alex Cross are. Patterson is a highly successful author (he's the first person to ever sell one million e-books), and while these days he seems to let other people write for him and then just slaps his name on the cover and cashes a check, his early books were authored solo. And when he wrote those early books, he created Alex Cross, a character who has appeared in several books now. Cross is a brilliant Metropolitan Police Department detective who often hunts down twisted serial killers. He's the type of ready-for-the-screen character that people love to watch, so it makes sense that there have been multiple Alex Cross movies — and there's a new Alex Cross TV series on the way, too, headed to Prime Video.
For now, we're just going to focus on the movies.

Well, I warned you. Kind of. While today’s story is released with Stephen King’s name plastered all over it, at the time of its release The Running Man was under the name of Richard Bachman, who had some dark stories attached to him. I was planning on doing this for a while but with the news that Edgar Wright is going to tackle the story in a new version that hopefully is closer to the book, it makes too much sense to talk about this dystopian horror now. While it’s a stalwart of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s catalogue of action, especially that range from 1987 to 1991, it’s not often looked at as a premiere Stephen King adaptation. It’s not expressly seen as horror but when it gets boiled down, both book and film, it’s horrific what happens in both stories and what’s going on in the worlds of both medias.

Released in 1999, The Mummy was a box office hit with $409 million worldwide. Two sequels followed, as did a spin-off - 2002's The Scorpion King - which put Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the map as an actor.
Stephen Sommers directed the first two movies, passing the baton to Rob Cohen for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Then, in 2017, The Mummy franchise was rebooted as part of Universal's short-lived "Dark Universe."
Tom Cruise took centre stage in what proved to be a rare critical and commercial flop for the A-Lister, and Sommers recently shared his thoughts on the movie while talking to The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com).
"No," he responded when asked if the studio reached out to him. "Actually, I was kind of insulted because the writers and director [Alex Kurtzman] of that Tom Cruise one, no one ever contacted me. I contact people if I...

Confirming Tyrese Gibson’s earlier comments, Fast & Furious 11 begins filming in January 2025, director Louis Leterrier says, with its release planned for June the following year.
Given how quiet Universal’s been about the whole production, the original plan to have Fast & Furious 11 in cinemas by April 2025 was sounding increasingly unlikely with each passing day. Backing up Tyrese Gibson’s comments from earlier in the month, director Louis Leterrier has confirmed that the sequel won’t begin filming in January 2025 – which will have an inevitable knock-on effect on its release date.
Talking to Collider, Leterrier said that he wouldn’t even be starting pre-production on Fast 11 until the 16th September this year – the reason being he has another film, a sci-fi horror film called 11817 in the works until the day before.
As a result, Fast 11 is “filming next year, and it’s coming out in 2026, which will be exactly to the...

The Fast & Furious movies are “tremendous” says Christopher Nolan, and recommends that newcomers start with Tokyo Drift.
Christopher Nolan may have landed a huge hit with his sombre biopic, Oppenheimer, but he’s no snob when it comes to popcorn munching escapism, either.
Speaking to host Stephen Colbert on The Late Show (via Variety), Nolan reiterated his clear affection for the Fast & Furious franchise – and he’s evidently an afficionado of the series, given that he talked briefly about its “arc and mythology”. The director even provided a recommended starting point to Colbert, who to date hasn’t seen a single Fast movie.
“I have no guilt about being a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise,” Nolan said. “A tremendous action franchise … You’ve never seen any of them? I watch those movies all the time. I love them. I’m amazed you’ve never seen one of them.

Paul Walker could have been cast as Clark Kent, the Man of Steel. The late actor’s manager, Matt Luber, and stunt double, Oakley Lehman, revealed in the 2018 documentary I Am Paul Walker that the Fast & Furious star walked away from a multi-million dollar deal.
Luber said in the doc, which recently aired on The CW, that Walker “was screen testing for Superman,” adding, “I think it was a $10 million deal, and he was the frontrunner.”
Lehman, who was also Walker’s childhood friend, said the actor “was up for it” and “knew he was thinking about doing it.”
“I knew he did not want to do three or four Superman [films] and be Superman for the rest of his life,” Lehman continued.
According to Luber, Walker was auditioning for the superhero role and donning the Superman costume when the actor decided it was not for him.

Given how outlandish and enormous the "Fast & Furious" film series would eventually become, it's a little mind-boggling to remember that Rob Cohen's 2001 original, "The Fast and the Furious," was little more than a mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff. The story goes that star Paul Walker, having enjoyed working with Cohen on the 2000 college thriller "The Skulls" was asked what his dream action project would be. Walker said that he wanted to appear in an action movie mashup of "Days of Thunder" and "Donnie Brasco." That is: something with fast cars, but also a cop who goes undercover to infiltrate the criminal underground. The subsequent screenplay, written by Gary Scott Thompson, drew inspiration from a 1998 article in Vibe Magazine all about the New York underground racing scene. David Ayer was brought in to work on a draft, and he changed the setting to Los Angeles and made the cast more diverse.

Jake Bloom, the larger-than-life Hollywood attorney who negotiated rich deals for clients including Nicolas Cage, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Depp, died Thursday in Sun Valley, Idaho, his wife Ruth confirmed. He was 81.
In 2019, Bloom retired along with his partner Alan Hergott while the firm was still in the midst of litigation with former client Depp.
Bloom Hergott was founded in 1970, with a stable of high-profile clients that also included directors Brad Bird, Martin Scorsese and Rob Cohen, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and actor Jason Statham.
Over the years, he worked with Hollywood’s top names thanks to close relationships with CAA and ICM. Bloom famously negotiated Depp’s first deal to star in Disney’s live-action “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, which held back merchandising and theme park rights, resulting in a big payoff for Depp and Bruckheimer.
In 2001, Bloom secured a massive $29.25 million contract for Schwarzenegger to star in “Terminator 3.

1995 wasn’t a good year for Sylvester Stallone at the multiplex. His summer tentpole, Judge Dredd, flopped domestically, and it was quickly followed by Richard Donner’s Assassins, which only grossed $30 million at the domestic box office. While Sly’s career had seen a few slumps, his straightforward action movies typically performed, and the failure of those two films put his clout as one of the world’s biggest stars in jeopardy. In this episode of Sylvester Stallone Revisited, we’re going to talk about a movie that was supposed to be a big-budget, commercial change of pace for the actor but wound up being the last would-be blockbuster he’d star in for years. That’s right; we’re going to talk about Rob Cohen’s Daylight.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” began its domestic box office journey with $7.2 million in Thursday previews. That is almost on par with the $7.5 million earned by “Fast X” but well below “Rise of the Beasts” ($8.8 million), “John Wick: Chapter 4” ($8.9 million), “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($17.4 million) and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($17 million). Just doing the straight Thursday-to-weekend math, Disney’s latest tentpole could land anywhere between $50 million and $65 million in its opening weekend.
With mixed-positive reviews (66% fresh and 6.3/10 on Rotten Tomatoes) but an uncertain pull among younger moviegoers, Disney is hoping that the 2.5-hour actioner will pull general audiences and casual fans over the weekend as opposed to must-see-it-now opening night anticipation. When Rob Cohen made "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001, he couldn't possibly have known that it would eventually spawn one of the largest film franchises of all time. The original film was downright modest, even wispy, when compared to some of the more recent chapters in the overblown "Furious" franchise. In it, an LAPD cop named Johnny Utah ... er, I mean Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) goes undercover in the strange and ultra-cool world of surfers ... er, I mean L.A. street racers to track down and arrest their ringleader Bodhi ... er, I mean Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) for a recent rash of high-profile thefts. Michelle Rodriguez appeared as Letty, Dom's girlfriend, and Jordana Brewster played Mia, Dom's sister and Brian's would-be paramour.
Over the course of the film's many sequels, Letty and Mia would eventually play larger and larger parts in the story and finally be allowed to do more than fall in love,...

The entire “The Fast and Furious” universe consists of 13 installments: 10 movies, one show and two short films. The world of fast cars, illegal street racing and iconic beefs was created by Gary Scott Thompson. The writer, director and producer kicked off the franchise with the first film “The Fast and the Furious,” which was directed by Rob Cohen, with a story by Thompson and Ken Li.
The first film in what would become a country-hopping international franchise, starred Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Matt Schulze and Ricky Yune and more. “The Fast and the Furious” told the story of Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who has a passion and drive for street racing, and after a run-in with Johnny Tran (Yune), he takes racing newcomer Brian (Walker) under his wing. However, Dom and his sister Mia (Brewster) have no idea that he’s an undercover cop, and they are...

As Dominic Toretto (played with muscle-y esteem by Vin Diesel) once said, "I live my life a quarter-mile at a time." When 2001's "The Fast and the Furious" came out, this sentiment referred to Dom's love of street racing. But on the eve of the premiere of "Fast X," the 10th entry in the series, perhaps Dom should've said he lives his life a quarter-century at a time.
The release of "Fast X" marks 22 glorious years of the "Fast" saga, and as the 25-year mark approaches, it seems that Diesel and company are eager to give their long-running franchise a big, splashy final act. Because the "Fast" films are not based on any pre-existing source material, the journey from each movie to the next has been thrillingly unpredictable as the Torettos and their extended family reach bigger and crazier heights.

It's been 22 years since Rob Cohen directed a shameless knockoff of Kathryn Bigelow's "Point Break," starring Paul Walker instead of Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel instead of Patrick Swayze, and street racing instead of surfing and sky diving. And while at the time, the success of the film "The Fast and the Furious" seemed only vaguely remarkable, over the course of the last two decades it has ballooned into a multi-billion dollar franchise, full of epic car stunts, ludicrous storylines, and endless ruminations about the meaning of "family."
Yes, "Fast and Furious" has become a household name, perhaps permanently associated with the blockbuster vehicular nonsense films of Vin Diesel and company. But it was not always this way. The common expression "fast and furious" has been used many times in Hollywood, for films about race car driving, funny murder mysteries, beloved Looney Tunes adventures, and low-budget crime thrillers.

The evolution of the "Fast & Furious" film series hasn't been so much an act of growth as it has been a mutation. Rob Cohen's 2001 original, "The Fast and the Furious," was little more than a low-expectation, mid-budget summer action flick that was expected to come and go in the public consciousness quite quickly. It was also very clearly cribbing its plot directly from Kathryn Bigelow's decade-old film "Point Break." Cohen merely transposed the 1991 film's setting from the world of criminal surfers to the world of criminal street racers. Vin Diesel is Patrick Swayze and Paul Walker is Keanu Reeves.
But the film ended up a major hit, grossing over $200 million worldwide, and inspiring a sequel with the amusing title of John Singleton's 2003 chapter "2 Fast 2 Furious." Because Diesel didn't return, Walker's character was teamed up with a rival played by Tyrese Gibson. Perhaps unwittingly, an ensemble began to grow.

There are few movie franchises as enduring as the high-octane thunder road antics of the Fast and Furious family. Fulfilling their protagonists’ ambitions, the Fast & Furious brand has grown from a single movie to a media empire in just over twenty years. From the series of hit movies and spin-offs, to short films, an animated series, numerous live shows and even theme park attractions – this franchise show no signs of hitting the brakes.
Indeed, audiences are keener than ever to keep up with the roarsome ragtag band of road-ripping rebels. The first sparks of the dizzying heights to come were visible in Rob Cohen’s propulsive 2001 film, which began as a Gary Scott Thompson story and starred Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. Since their inauspicious debut the family has grown, the cars have gotten faster and the stunts are exponentially more dangerous and (literally) out of this world.

In 1999, Universal Studios released The Mummy, a fresh take on the classic monster movie. The Stephen Sommers-directed film was a huge hit and turned Brendan Fraser into a bonafide movie star. The success of the first movie led to two sequels – The Mummy Returns in 2001, and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. And though a fourth film was slated for production, it was ultimately never released.
So whatever happened to this mysterious Mummy movie? Will it ever see the light of day, or will it remain forever hidden like an ancient relic? Let’s find out Wtf Happened to the Unmade Mummy: Rise of the Aztec Movie.
Before The Mummy’s release, Universal Studios had spent close to a decade trying to get a remake off the ground. In the late 1980s, producers James Jacks and Sean Daniel sought to modernize the 1932 classic and hoped to turn it into a potential franchise.

Looking back over the "Fast & Furious" movies, it's astonishing how far they have evolved. In 2021's "F9," two characters literally launched a car into space. This was followed by a scene where the central team of stunt drivers equipped their cars with powerful electromagnets that could pull entire washing machines out of storefronts in order to fling them at enemy pursuers. Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew are more or less unkillable at this point, a detail that the characters were wise enough to acknowledge; Chris "Ludacris" Bridges points out that they may all actually be immortal.
Looking back to Rob Cohen's 2001 original film, "The Fast and the Furious," one finds a very, very modest beginning. "The Fast and the Furious" is essentially a mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff about ultra-cool fast-driving thieves who do nothing more sinister than boost DVD players from delivery trucks. Paul Walker enjoyed a lengthy career in Hollywood that carried him through various roles in several unique movies before his unfortunate death in 2013 at just 40 years old. Fans likely remember him best as Brian O'Conner in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but the talented and handsome actor also appeared in critical hits such as "Pleasantville," "Joy Ride," and Clint Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers," and served as executive producer on the films "Vehicle 19," "Hours," and "Pawn Shop Chronicles." He even enjoyed a guest spot on National Geographic's "Expedition Great White" in 2009.
In his youth, Walker popped up in a variety of high-profile TV shows, among them "Highway to Heaven," "Charles in Charge," "Who's the Boss," and "Touched by an Angel," before making the leap to schlocky B-movie horror films such as "Tammy and the Rex," opposite Denise Richards, in which his character's brain somehow lands inside a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Before Fast X races into theaters, NBCUniversal has treated extended members of the Fast family with The Fast and the Furious Legacy Trailer, taking us back to where it all began for Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his band of thieves. The slick footage brings us back to the franchise’s start, with The Fast and the Furious, directed by Rob Cohen. In the film that started it all, Los Angeles police officer Brian O’Conner must decide where his loyalty lies when he becomes enamored with the street racing world he has been sent undercover to destroy. The action-packed street racing extravaganza stars a baby-faced Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg, Matt Schultze, and more.
The Fast and the Furious Legacy Trailer is, without a doubt, a cog in the hype machine for Fast X, the penultimate chapter of the core Fast and Furious series of films.

You'll have to get your scrolling finger ready to review the illustrious career of visual effects maestro Phil Tippett. From the gnarly (and LSD-tinged) conjuring of the Rancor in the far, far away galaxy of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" (for which he would earn a Best Visual Effects Oscar) to his contributions to the ever-popular fantasy "Willow" under the umbrella of the Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm) team, the award-winning designer and stop-motion artist is responsible for some of cinema's most breathtaking sights.

While many may know Vin Diesel as the tank top-wearing, Corona-drinking man that's all about family from the "Fast & Furious" franchise, it's easy to forget that Diesel's reach goes well beyond just one franchise. Diesel has appeared in the MCU, led the "Riddick" series, and will even be in James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" later this year. But there's another franchise that starred Diesel that launched around the same time as the "Fast & Furious" franchise.

American action movies produced during the early 2000s were a whole other breed. "xXx" followed in the wake of spy flicks like "Die Another Day" that wanted to appear more trendy to younger audiences, in addition to being one of the most eyebrow-raising movie titles to come across your browser history. Here Vin Diesel plays the appropriately named Xander Cage, an extreme sports stuntman turned secret agent with an affinity for breaking the rules and trying to look cool while doing it. If you've ever wondered what James Bond on Monster Energy would look like, "xXx" has you covered.
As a fascinating time capsule of its era, "xXx" boasts an impressive demonstration of practical stunts that are still pretty incredible to watch, even if the film itself leaves a lot to be desired. "xXx" never quite took off in the same way that "Fast and Furious" did though, despite launching two sequels.

On April 22, Vin Diesel posted a 19-second video to Instagram recapping the first week of production on “Fast X,” the latest entry in Universal’s 21-year-old franchise. In the clip, Diesel sidles up to Justin Lin to ask the film’s director and co-writer how he’s feeling at the end of the first week of production.
As Diesel grins into his selfie camera, Lin, seated and seemingly uncomfortable, nods his head as he tries to find the right words.
“It feels like the beginning of, uh, of an epic ending,” Lin says flatly.

“The Fast and the Furious” is a franchise it’s easy to dismiss as big, silly, or even bad — but that’s because it’s not good, it’s awesome. The distinction may seem nebulous, but measuring each film’s success or failure has less to do with whether or not you believe what’s happening on screen than whether what’s happening has just suitably blown your mind, scrambled your expectations, or shown you something so preposterous that you have to admire it. Ironically, the series began as a more mundane version of Kathryn Bigelow’s thriller about surfing bank robbers, “Point Break,” but over the course of nine installments, “The Fast and the Furious” has grown so far beyond the parameters of what in 1991 already seemed ridiculous that it’s impossible to evaluate them on a scale of anything from zero to 60 — the former number being the resting...
