Hu slowly worked his way up as the director of “Sons of the Good Earth” (1965) under the influence of director Li Han Hsiang. Besides launching the film career of its star Cheng Pei Pei, Hu’s highly acclaimed wuxia film “Come Drink with Me” (1966) would put him on the world map. After leaving Shaw, he directed “Dragon Inn” (1967) in Taiwan which became a phenomenal cult classic in Southeast Asia.
Hu continued to achieve more fame with films like “A Touch of Zen” (1971), “The Valiant Ones” (1975), “Raining in the Mountain” and “Legend of the Mountain” both in 1979. Although his later films were less successful commercially, he returned from California to direct “Swordsman” (1990) and “Painted Skin” (1992). Actually, producer Tsui Hark‘s team had to finish...

Mark Scout’s fight against the faceless authority in Severance definitely has parallels to one of the darkest dystopian books ever written. George Orwell’s classic 1984 delves into the consequences of mass surveillance and based his book on the Soviet Union under Stalinism and Nazi Germany. Ben Stiller’s show is however set in the corporate world, possibly a satire of the entire system.

Severance follows a group of office employees entering the ‘Severance’ project which makes it impossible for them to remember their office life at home. Interestingly, the premise came to creator Dan Erickson when he was fantasizing about work-life balance while going to work one day.

When Malcolm Washington was working his first movie job — as a camera production assistant on Jon Favreau’s 2014 Chef — he struck up a friendship with Roy Choi, the film’s food consultant. As a lifelong Angeleno, Washington, 33, was a huge fan of Choi’s restaurants, and the two bonded over their shared experience of being new to a movie set (apart, of course, from Malcolm visiting his dad, Denzel Washington, at work as a kid).
“We didn’t stay in touch, because I was just a P.A.,” says Washington. But a decade later, he was celebrating picture lock on his directorial debut and decided to treat himself to dinner at a sushi bar. When he sat down at the only open seat, he found himself next to Choi: “I told him, ‘I just finished my first movie as a director 20 minutes ago,’ and he said, ‘I always knew you’d do something.

Jujutsu Kaisen might leave you with mixed feelings about the overall story that Gege Akutami told, but the one undeniably brilliant aspect was the action. The thrill of the fight and the smooth choreography kept us on our toes. In a world of sorcery, it relied on combat quite a lot.
One interesting fight involved the Strongest Sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, in close combat with Miguel Oduol. Formerly as a commander to Suguru Geto, he was loyal enough to go against the strongest to help his vision. That obviously didn’t end well for him but it landed him a different job.

What was curious about this fight wasn’t that Miguel fought Gojo on equal footing (almost) or that the strongest sorcerer went all out in a close combat situation. Gojo’s moves in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 perfectly mirrored a scene from a martial arts movie.

Known primarily for their work in The Five Deadly Venoms, a group of five martial arts actors starred in a slew of entertaining kung fu flicks. Martial arts movies have a tendency to recreate actor pairings that studio already know can lead to success. Jackie Chan's Three Dragons movies with Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung are a perfect example of this. Also worth mentioning are the various partnerships between Ti Lung and David Chiang in classic Shaw Brothers movies, as well as the films that boast Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins as co-stars.
The vast majority of these actor team-ups are duos and trios, but that's not the case for the Venom Mob. The Ip Man franchise is one of the most popular modern martial arts series, which tells the life story of the real Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. These films were only loosely based on Ip’s real life, as it was unlikely the actual man regularly faced off against the sinister villains portrayed by martial arts movie legends like Sammo Hung, Mike Tyson, and Scott Adkins in the movies. However, the Ip Man films broadly followed Ip’s life story from his early 40s in conflict-ridden China to his death at 79 in 1972.
Martial arts icon Donnie Yen powerfully portrayed Ip Man throughout the series. Although Yen was a similar age to Ip in the first installment, the kung fu star continued to tell the story of Ip’s life as he entered his 70s and beyond. As Survivor's host since the beginning (who later became the show's producer), Jeff Probst has had a lot of influence over the hit reality show. That makes sense, since even fans who are figuring out which seasons to watch first will realize Jeff has been a part of the show since the first player was medically evacuated. However, fans and Jeff have disagreed about things like which seasons are the best, who the greatest winners are, and who should be called the best players ever.
On the other hand, Jeff and Survivor fans all seem to agree that Cirie Fields is a legend of the show who deserves to be in the Survivor Hall of Fame. Despite how respected she is, Cirie once revealed what her biggest regret about the game was.

Like much of actor-choreographer-director Sammo Hung’s work behind the camera, 1987’s Eastern Condors is a collision of disparate tones held together through sheer force of will. During the Vietnam War, a group of Chinese prisoners get a chance at parole and American citizenship if they undertake a secret mission to destroy a cache of weapons before they can fall into the hands of the Viet Cong. This sets up a standard war movie abundant in heroic sacrifice, last-stand shootouts, and archetype characters, but Hung brings his martial arts expertise and propensity for slapstick to a film otherwise keyed to the tragic human waste of war.
Proof of the influence that Hung, who stars in the film as Tung Ming-sun, wielded within the Hong Kong industry, the members of the ad hoc suicide squad at the film’s center are played by a who’s-who of stars and character actors,...

For most, the world of anime and manga is dominated by shonen series, typically action-focused storyies aimed primarily at a young male demographic (famed hits like Dragon Ball Z and even Death Note included). However, there are also anime and manga aimed at an older demographic, and that category is known as seinen.
So, what is seinen? "Seinen" is media aimed at older males in their late teens and 20s. In general, these series tend to star older protagonists, feature more explicit content, and deal with darker subject matter (though not all have to). While that male audience is the only real requirement to be seinen, the series can be enjoyed by anyone, and contains the variety to do exactly that. Below are ten of the absolute best seinen series available, offering great entry points into this diverse and underappreciated genre.

In 2009, Disney purchased the film rights to Marvel Studios. In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm. In 2017, Disney purchased the 20th Century Fox library. Thanks to these major buys, Disney now owns some of the most bankable films of all time. When not adjusted for inflation, Disney also owns a controlling stake in nine out of the 10 highest-grossing movies ever, including two "Avatar" movies, "Titanic," three movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a Pixar film, a "Star Wars" film, and a remake of an animated classic.

Yuen began his directing career with a strong start thanks to the Jackie Chan films Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master. The combination of comedy and action seen in the films would continue to pop up throughout Yuen's career as he continued to collaborate with celebrated martial arts actors like Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen, and Michelle Yeoh.
Yuen is an undeniable talent, putting together some of the most famous action scenes in both Hong Kong and Hollywood films. Yet, Yuen is also referred to as one of the best martial arts directors of all time. His background as a choreographer has lent itself well to Yuen's job as a director. Master Chao Yun Yang (Lo Wei) of the Chao Manor in Death Valley is getting old and thinking of retiring. Since he has no children, he wants to give everything he owns to his nephew Chao Yu Lung (Yueh Hua), a righteous swordsman who wields a pair of deadly short swords. Angela Murray was a polarizing force on the Big Brother 26 cast. Some fans disliked her as a player, while others tuned in to see what she would do next.
During the first week of BB26, Angela turned some fans against her when she called Matt Hardeman “crazy eyes” in front of the other players.
Matt got evicted during that first week, and the people cheering for him immediately turned on Angela.
While some viewers hoped she would go home each week, many other Big Brother fans felt she brought the game back to some original gameplay on the reality competition show.
Despite being targeted early by several other houseguests, Angela made it to Day 73 before she was evicted.
The real estate agent from Utah finished seventh place on the season and became one of the top vote-getters for America’s Favorite Houseguest.

Legendary Hong Kong martial arts star and filmmaker Sammo Hung gave a masterclass at the Tokyo International Film Festival, where at age 72 he demonstrated that while he now uses a cane, his charismatic abilities and innovative spirit remain. Hung held an engaging talk where he shared lessons from over 60 years in the industry developing martial arts cinema.
Born into a performing family, Hung’s journey began with training at Hong Kong’s prestigious Peking Opera school. “The training was very rigorous,” Hung recalled. “We learned fundamental movements so by graduation you could perform nearly any move.” This training laid the groundwork for his future success in martial arts films.
Hung’s film career started early, with his debut at age 9 in the 1960s. A pivotal moment came in 1973’s “Enter the Dragon” where Hung fought Bruce Lee in the opening scene. After Lee’s tragic death, Hung took on choreographing...

In a career that has spanned seven decades, Hong Kong action movie legend Sammo Hung has seen a lot, and moreover, his body has been through a lot. So it wasn’t a surprise to see the 72-year-old use a cane as he took the stage for a masterclass session at the Tokyo International Film Festival. But as he captivated an appreciative audience, the confidence and humor that have seen Hung through his illustrious career in martial arts movies shone bright.
Born into a showbiz family, Hung’s career began as a child actor while at the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera school in Hong Kong. He made his film debut in the early 1960s, aged nine. A slightly grainy, black and white clip of the film showed a fresh-faced boy Hung, to coos from his assembled admirers. “Training at the school was very severe. We learned all the fundamental movements.

Many Big Brother alumni dressed up for Halloween this year, and some of the great costumes included their family members.
It’s a yearly event to see former Big Brother houseguests dressed up, almost suggesting that being on the show indicates they have fun doing it.
Most of these folks had to wear costumes during their time in the Big Brother house, whether it was from a theme or due to a punishment.
Some folks are quite impressive with their costume game, especially when they put together a couple’s theme.
Big Brother fans have even gotten into the game again this year, with several people dressing as a BB26 cast member.
Early costumes featured Big Brother fans dressed as Angela Murray, and they pulled it off.

Hong Kong martial arts legend Sammo Hung, prolific Japanese martial arts actor Yasuaki Kurata and action director Kenji Tanigaki discussed martial arts cinema and shared behind-the-scenes anecdotes together in Tokyo.
They appeared as part of a panel titled “Martial Arts on the Silver Screen: Past, Present, and Future” during Tiffcom, the market held alongside the Tokyo International Film Festival.

We really invested ourselves fully in our film work and we want to convey this spirit to the next generation.”

One of the biggest reasons Big Brother is widely recognized as one of the best reality shows ever is because of how invested fans are in the show. After all, Big Brother fans care about things like ranking every season, what happened to the first winner, and where the first female winner is now. On top of that, Big Brother viewers also want what is best for the players, so they hope they get paid well and they were rooting for Adam Jasinski throughout his struggles and recovery.
On the other hand, sometimes Big Brother fans reject a houseguest because they are concerned about the other players. A perfect example of that is the fact that many Big Brother fans were outraged that Jc Mounduix wasn't ejected from the house.

Scott Adkins is a modern legend of martial arts movies, with his best on-screen fights up there with some of the greats in the genre. The British actor and martial artist first got his start in movies in the early 2000s Hong Kong kung fu film scene, getting early opportunities to work with legends like Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. However, it wasn't until his villainous portrayal of the mad Russian fighter Yuri Boyka in the Undisputed series that he became a regular in some of Hollywood's greatest unarmed combat sequences.
Over Scott Adkins' lengthy filmography, he has crossed fists with some household name actors like Donnie Yen, Keanu Reeves, and Iko Uwais, just to name a few. However, Adkins himself can be just as valuable when fighting hordes of no-name thugs or one-off character performances in lesser-known films as well, a worthy center of the action in his own right.

Sammo Hung is a legend in martial arts and kung fu cinema, playing many different roles as an actor and also producing, directing, and choreographing fight sequences, setting the trend on many aspects of the genre overall. He was a pivotal figure in the Hong Kong New Wave movement, creating some of the best kung fu films of the 1980s, popularizing the kung fu genre to a larger, international audience with his focus on clever stories, dramatic narratives, and more Western-style action and special effects, as well as other technical aspects, like synchronous sound and filming movies on different locations.
