Actress Charlize Theron played the role of former Fox News host Megyn Kelly in the 2019 biographical drama film Bombshell. It explores the accounts of women at Fox, who faced sexual assault at their workplace. The film received positive reviews from critics and earned Theron an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

The film’s focus primarily lies on the struggles of women like Kelly who overcame adverse circumstances and spoke out against a powerful figure like former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. However, the film could not escape the shadow of Donald Trump, whose political career was on the rise at the time of allegations against Ailes. Here is what Theron had to say about Trump’s impact on Bombshell.

On the night of the 2000 presidential election, as the counting began in a tight race between Texas Gov. George W. Bush and incumbent Vice President Al Gore, it all came down to Florida. And then, all hell broke loose.
Director Jay Roach and writer Danny Strong captured the stakes and the personalities that drove that strange moment in “Recount,” the Emmy-winning 2008 HBO movie starring Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey, Bob Balaban and Laura Dern. Instead of “Stop the Steal,” the rally cry in 2000 for Bush supporters was “Stop the Recount.”
“The events in ‘Recount’ were in some way a rehearsal for January 6,” Roach says. “It proved that there was potential to physically disrupt an election.”

When Charlize Theron first stepped into the role of Megyn Kelly in Bombshell, viewers needed a moment to separate the layers of reality from performance as she sat flawlessly made up behind the news desk. While Bombshell addressed a serious topic, it did so with a distinct and creative flair.

Searchlight UK executive vice president Katie Goodson-Thomas revealed the Disney-owned studio gets outbid on a “daily basis” by streaming platforms for projects, during a spotlight conversation at the BFI London Film Festival today (October 15).
“We can’t be competitive with Netflix, or Apple, or Amazon,” said Goodson-Thomas, in response to an audience question on whether Searchlight gets outbid at development or acquisition stage on projects from the streamers.
Goodson-Thomas noted she would love to work with Emerald Fennell, whose next project will be an adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, produced by LuckyChap and financed by MRC.

Searchlight Pictures’ top international exec Katie Goodson-Thomas has acknowledged the constant battle the specialty studio has against the deep-pockets of streamers when it comes to securing projects.
Speaking at an industry talk at the BFI London Film Festival, Goodson-Thomas, head of international production and development, said that Searchlight being “priced out” by streamers was something “that happens on a daily basis, it really does.”
She added: “But we just can’t be competitive with Netflix of Apple or Amazon.”
Goodson-Thomas pointed to Emerald Fennell — someone she said she’d “love to work with” — and her upcoming “Wuthering Heights” adaptation, a film Searchlight simply wouldn’t have the finances to support. “But I think she’s an extraordinary filmmaker and I want her film to be made so I’m happy for her to go to those people who have the money to finance it,” she said.

Searchlight Pictures “Can’t Be Competitive” With Giants Like Netflix But Score With “Humanity”: Exec
Searchlight Pictures top executive Katie Goodson-Thomas told the BFI London Film Festival (Lff) on Tuesday how passion and “humanity” make the studio special even though it gets “priced out” by streaming giants on a daily basis.
Sharing her thoughts and behind-the-scenes insight during a spotlight conversation at the 68th edition of the festival in the British capital, the studio’s head of international production and development said “we are quite light” in the U.K. as a team, with eight staffers in Britain, four of which are lawyers who work across the whole company. The studio is behind movies like The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Poor Things, All of Us Strangers, Jojo Rabbit, Boys Don’t Cry, Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine.

Bleecker Street executives Kent Sanderson and Myles Bender can vividly remember their first time seeing “Eye in the Sky,” a drone warfare thriller starring Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman that premiered in 2015 at Toronto Film Festival with hopes of finding distribution. Not long into the Canadian screening, they were held rapt by film but quickly realized their contemporaries in the room didn’t feel the same way.
“Within 15 minutes, I started watching a lot of other buyers get up and leave. I guess they felt the film was too challenging,” says Sanderson, Bleecker Street’s president. He and Bender, head of marketing and creative advertising, pushed for their boss, the film company’s co-founder and CEO, Andrew Karpen, to watch the film so they could bid on the distribution rights. Bender recalls, “We were looking at each other and saying, ‘What are we seeing that they aren’t?’”

When Margot Robbie Revealed Not Knowing The Definition Of S*xual Harassment(Photo Credit – Instagram)
Women face sexual harassment almost daily, and this is common everywhere. However, some people do not know which things or activities could be labeled as sexual harassment. As a result, some predators get away. Barbie star Margot Robbie once admitted that she was unaware of what it meant until she did this Oscar-winning movie.
Robbie is an excellent actress and one of the highest-paid ones, too. In 2017, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Last year, she was the highest-paid actress because of her cultural phenomenon of a movie, Barbie. It was one of last year’s biggest films, earning over $1.4 billion globally, and it completed a year yesterday. It was released on the same day as Oppenheimer, and the phenomenon was collectively termed as Barbenheimer.

“The last day of operation for the Bruin & Village Theaters under Regency is Thursday, July 25,” Regency president Lyndon Golin confirmed to the Los Angeles Times in a story published Sunday.
Regency also operates Westwood’s Village Theater, the historic theater famed for its art deco tower, but that venue was saved back in February when a group of 35 filmmakers led by Jason Reitman clubbed together to rescue the 93-year-old cinema.
The coalition of filmmakers to save the Village Theater included J.J. "Austin Powers" is arguably one of the most beloved comedy movie franchises in history. Beginning with "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" in 1997, Mike Myers helped craft a James Bond spoof that came at just the right time, with "GoldenEye" reviving 007 to kick off Pierce Brosnan's tenure with the character. For as much as the movie is remembered, it actually didn't top the box office when it opened -- the film lost out to an oft-forgotten Kurt Russell thriller.
Directed by Jonathan Mostow, "Breakdown" centers on a married couple Jeff (Kurt Russell) and Amy Taylor (Kathleen Quinlan) who run into some car trouble as they're driving across the country. A passing truck driver offers to help, and that's where things go wrong; Amy goes missing, leading Jeff on a chase to find her. Steven Soderbergh revived Lewis Milestone’s casino heist Ocean’s 11 with a stellar cast, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon, among others. The film has since become a beloved classic along with the highest-grossing film of his career, so far. Following its success, he expanded the story into a trilogy with subsequent sequels.

However, creating a visually impressive heist film was not without its challenges, particularly in light of Soderbergh’s artistic intentions, as he aimed to create a cinematic experience that diverged sharply from Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 crime thriller.

In an interview with BBC, Steven Soderbergh discussed his approach to the 2001 heist film Ocean’s 11. The filmmaker expressed his intent to create a film that stood in stark contrast to Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 crime thriller Reservoir Dogs.

The full ensemble cast is announced for the remake of 1989’s The War Of The Roses which will star Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
It’s been just over a month since we learned that Jay Roach would be remaking the 1989 relationship comedy, War Of The Roses and we now have a fuller idea of what the film’s cast looks like.
We already knew that the new adaptation would be starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the central couple, who just like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in the 1989 original, proceed with a nasty yet entertaining divorce.
A fresh report (via Deadline) has now confirmed that the film’s cast will be rounded out by Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg and Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa.
McKinnon and Samberg are both established comedy stars who’ve led films themselves, so grabbing them both in supporting roles is a real coup.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are back together on film — outside of the “Ocean’s” cinematic universe.
The duo co-star in action-comedy movie “Wolfs,” which is written and directed by Jon Watts. In “Wolfs,” Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected. Just another night in the fixer industry, we imagine.

Determining Ben Stiller's best role is no easy task, as the prolific performer has more than a few borderline iconic characters to his name. Tony Perkis in "Heavyweights," Mr. Furious in "Mystery Men," White Goodman in "Dodgeball," Chas Tenenbaum in "The Royal Tenenbaums," Tugg Speedman in "Tropic Thunder," the titular Derek "Zoolander," and Ted Stroehmann in "There's Something About Mary" are all characters that feel synonymous with Stiller, and roles that no one else but him could pull off. And then there's Greg Focker in "Meet the Parents," a role Stiller has played in three different films, the lovable everyman who can't seem to impress his overbearing father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). For as much as Stiller has made a name for himself with distinctive characters like Hal the Orderly Guy in "Happy Gilmore," his genuine charm allowed him to flourish in relatable roles, with Greg arguably the best example of this.

Plot: Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut.
Review: It took nine years after the series finale of Seinfeld for Jerry Seinfeld’s big screen debut, Bee Movie. That surreal, animated adventure was a spot-on continuation of the stand-up comedian’s brand of observational humor told within the context of a strangely specific world. Unfrosted, which reunited Seinfeld with his team of writers from Bee Movie, is another glimpse into a surreal world that allows him to explore his distinct type of comedy with an all-star cast of talent playing real and fictional characters. Boasting glossy, retro visuals and capitalizing on Seinfeld’s well-known love of breakfast, Unfrosted looks like it was fun to make. I only wish it was as much fun to watch.

Mike Myers is set to play Austin Powers again, as Austin Powers 4 finally looks set to head towards the screen. More here.
Every since he walked off the screen as Austin Powers for the last time in 2002’s Austin Powers In Goldmember, Mike Myers has been fielding questions about a possible Austin Powers 4. Myers has taken on very, very few big screen roles in the last 20 years, but occasional rumblings have popped up about a new Austin Power adventure. Turns out, it might actually be happening.
Over at World Of Reel, it’s reporting that Austin Powers 4 has been developed in secret for at least the last year. The first three films were released by New Line Cinema, which has been entirely swallowed up by Warner Bros now. Warner Bros will this be backing the new film.

In Jay Roach's 1997 James Bond spoof "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," the film's villain, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers), aims to murder off his arch-nemesis by dropping him into a tank full of man-eating sharks. In a supervillainous twist, the sharks will be equipped with laser beams affixed to their heads. Dr. Evil says he likes his pets to have a well-cooked meal before eating. He then cackles maniacally. A lieutenant of his, however, informs Dr. Evil that buying sharks equipped with lasers is immensely difficult and that the tank is, instead, filled with flesh-eating sea bass. Dr. Evil isn't thrilled. "You know, I have one simple request," Dr. Evil says, "and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"
One cannot say if there's a direct connection to the above scene and a James Bond movie that Sean Connery once wrote, but there are a few uncanny similarities.

I’m not overly fond of politics. Given a choice, I’d rather talk food, or faraway places.
But I do have a weakness for political films — or, more precisely, films about political campaigns.
The best of them have been sharp, often witty, and self-aware to the point of cynicism. Bulworth. The Campaign. Wag the Dog. Primary Colors. Dave.
As a genre, they tend toward satire, if not broad comedy. In one of my favorites, David Gordon Green’s Our Brand Is Crisis, two inimical American political consultants corrupt Bolivian politics by transplanting our worst habits to foreign shores. It’s painfully funny stuff.
Where serious, the campaign genre tends to be confessional. With The Ides of March, progressive filmmaker George Clooney, adapting a play be Beau Willimon, unmasked Faustian bargains behind the gleaming ideals of a “good” politician in a hard-fought Ohio primary.

And just when you thought Hollywood would shift away from the remake and reboot craze, news of another remake just arrived. In 1989, Hollywood legend Danny DeVito directed the satirical black comedy The War of the Roses, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. The film was based on the 1981 novel of the same name written by Warren Adler. The movie follows a wealthy couple with a seemingly perfect life that crumbles at one point, and the perfection soon turns into a horrible and outrageous divorce.
The original movie was critically acclaimed and was a success for DeVito. Today, 35 years after the original, it has been reported that a remake of the movie is in the making, with Jay Roach attached to direct. On top of that, some interesting casting information has been revealed.
Namely, alongside this, it has been confirmed that Oscar-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for his interpretation of a...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman will star in Jay Roach’s remake of The War Of The Roses, titled The Roses.
Another day, another remake is in the works in La La Land. Well, technically, it’s another adaptation of Warren Adler’s 1981 novel The War Of The Roses, but most people are familiar with 1989’s film adaptation, which memorably starred Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas and was directed by Danny DeVito.
The new adaptation will star Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the central couple, who proceed with a very nasty, yet very entertaining, divorce.
Jay Roach has signed on to direct, while recent Oscar nominee Tony McNamara is penning the script. The film will simply be called The Roses.

With the film industry focusing more on remaking and retelling the stories from past times, Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be jumping on this bandwagon as he prepares to star in a reimagined version of the 1989 dark comedy The War of the Roses, which is newly titled The Roses.
Along with the MCU star, we will also witness Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman playing the role of the female lead in the upcoming film.

With this reimagination being made for modern times, the themes and elements of this classic film might be changed to a certain extent, which will be interesting to see. But at the same time, this news has not been taken too joyfully by audiences who loved the original and are calling it out for being non-creative and unnecessary.

If you say the phrase "war of the roses," chances are that most movie watchers will think of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as a combative couple rather than any historical bobbins between the houses of Lancaster and York. But going forward, film fans may instead picture Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the troubled pair, as they're starring in a reimagining of the William Adler novel that Danny DeVito brought to screens back in 1989.
Jay Roach, who has swung between comedy and political movies, is on board to direct what will this time be simply titled The Roses, with Poor Things' Tony McNamara writing the adaptation.

“Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest,” his family said. His wife, Hadassah, and other family members were at his side when he died, according to the statement.
At the time of his death, Lieberman was leading an effort to recruit a candidate for the group No Labels, which has been seeking a “unity” ticket to run independently of the Democratic and Republican parties.
Lieberman held to the view that, even in a time of hyper polarization, there was a common ground to be found in politics. His own career reflected that, and even those who criticized his positions found him friendly, kind and polite.

Jason Reitman and a coalition of 35 other filmmakers have together acquired one of Los Angeles’ most historic and iconic movie palaces.
The group together are the new owners and caretakers of the Village Theater in LA’s Westwood neighborhood. The 93-year-old theater, which is a block from the UCLA campus and continues to host many studio premieres weekly or monthly, is distinctive for its soaring tower, neon marquee, and massive screen. The Village Theater has been hosting premieres since the 1930s; in 2023 alone, 50 movies premiered there.
The new owners will work to preserve the theater and upgrade it to show both first-run films and repertory programming, equipping it with 35mm, 70mm, and digital projection. The group will also influence the lobby galleries, the theater’s programming, its picture and sound capabilities, and will even showcase memorabilia from their personal collections, such as props, costumes, and film prints.
