Sylvester Stallone Rambo Decision (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Sylvester Stallone once made a jaw-dropping decision: he turned down a massive $34 million payday for Rambo IV in the late ’80s. And yet, two decades later, he did the movie anyway — for much less.
When Rambo III was about to hit theaters, studios were ready to keep the franchise rolling. Stallone, already making a fortune, got a staggering offer: $34 million, guaranteed, to do Rambo IV. But he hesitated.
“We thought it was going to be the biggest hit—this was before it came out,” he said. “And I was paid a fortune for it. Then they go, ‘We want Rambo IV. Here it is: Pay or play, 34.’ I go, ‘Let’s not jump the gun here.’”

Robert De Niro knows a thing or two about playing mobsters. He’s done it multiple times across his legendary career – but as it turns out, The Alto Knights might just be the most De Niro mobster movie. That’s because he’s playing both central mob boss roles in the film, penned by none other than Nicholas ‘GoodFellas’ Pileggi, and directed by Barry Levinson. As well as mafia don Frank Costello, De Niro also plays… well, mafia don Vito Genovese, former friends who find themselves going head-to-head in mid-20th Century New York. Roll up for double De Niro.
For the actor, stepping into the shoes of both mafiosos – each with their own unique way of running things – was a compelling challenge. “The idea of playing the two different characters was intriguing to me,” De Niro tells Empire. And each had their own notes to play. “They’re like...

Did Dolph Lundgren Accidentally Hit Sylvester Stallone On Rocky IV Set? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sylvester Stallone didn’t just act like he was fighting for his life in Rocky IV – he actually was. One punch from Dolph Lundgren sent him straight to intensive care. “He pulverized me,” Stallone admitted, and that was putting it lightly. The hit was no stunt. Stallone wanted real punches to make the fight scenes feel authentic.
Lundgren, a legit 4th dan black belt, was happy to oblige. Bad idea. Stallone took a full-force shot to the chest. At first, he brushed it off. Then, reality hit – hard. “I didn’t feel it in the moment, but later that night my heart started to swell,” he said, per the National Post.
His blood pressure skyrocketed to 260. The next thing he knew, he was on a low-altitude emergency flight from Vancouver to California. Doctors didn’t sugarcoat it.

Robert De Niro goes up against Robert De Niro in biographical gangster drama The Alto Knights. Here’s a trailer.
When discussing mob drama The Alto Knights, formerly known as Wiseguys, it is impossible not to think about Martin Scorsese’s seminal gangster film Goodfellas, in which Robert De Niro played the smooth talking Jimmy Conway opposite Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci. The Alto Knights reunites De Niro and screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi for a story that sees De Niro play the dual roles of quarrelling mob bosses.
It’s safe to say we’re rather excited to see this.
The Alto Knights has been a long time coming. The film was stuck in development hell for a number of decades before Warner Bros revived the project in the summer of 2022.
The synopsis reads as follows:
“The most dangerous enemy is an old friend.” This mobster thriller movie follows two of...

Robert De Niro is starring as the Mafia boss in a mob drama. Sounds about right. But this time, he’s playing both lead roles: Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. De Niro will double his acting expertise in The Alto Knights, a crime drama inspired by the true story behind Costello and Genovese’s deadly rivalry.
The film’s newly released trailer finds Genovese and Costello in a dimly lit restaurant, talking over their different approaches to organized crime. Costello informs Genovese, “You’re not where I am. I give to charities,...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for The Alto Knights, starring Academy Award winner Robert De Niro in a dual role. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Levinson, the film is rated R for violence and pervasive language.
The Alto Knights follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello (De Niro) and Vito Genovese (De Niro), as they vie for control of the city’s streets. Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever.
The film was written by Oscar nominee Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas) and produced by Oscar winner Irwin Winkler, Levinson, Jason Sosnoff, Charles Winkler and David Winkler, with Mike Drake executive producing.
Robert De Niro stars alongside Debra Messing (Will & Grace), Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), Kathrine Narducci (The Irishman), Michael Rispoli (Billions), Michael Adler (Peppermint) and Ed Amatrudo.

Robert De Niro pulls double duty for his latest crime drama in the trailer for The Alto Knights, a new film from director Barry Levinson focusing on the story of the real-life gangsters Vito Genovese (De Niro) and Frank Costello (De Niro).
Goodfellas screenwriter and Oscar nominee Nicholas Pileggi wrote the script for The Alto Knights, which stars Robert De Niro as Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two Italian Americans who head two New York-based crime families in the mid-20th century. Reports about their reign show that in 1957, Genovese tried to assassinate Costello, resulting in Costello exiting the mob to recover from his injuries and distance himself from “the life.”
In the Alto Knights trailer, Vito Genovese does not approve of how Frank Costello runs his family. Genovese says Costello is fooling himself if he thinks he can present himself as an upstanding citizen while running a shadowy organization behind closed doors.

‘The Alto Knights’ Trailer: Robert De Niro Portrays Two Real-Life Mob Bosses in ‘Goodfellas’ Reunion

Robert De Niro is reuniting with his “Goodfellas” screenwriter Nick Pileggi for yet another true story of the Italian-American mafia.
De Niro in the first trailer for “The Alto Knights” portrays not one but two real-life mob bosses, Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, during their turf rivalry in the 1950s. “Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever,” the official synopsis for the film reads.
“The Sopranos” and “The Wire” producer Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”) directs the film; Levinson previously collaborated with De Niro on the HBO TV movie “The Wizard of Lies” (2017) and political satire film “Wag the Dog” (1997).

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky was a surprise worldwide hit despite starring mostly unknown faces, especially Stallone himself. The story of the action legend being almost homeless and out of money before he wrote the screenplay for the sports drama in three days and sold it to a studio is nothing short of legendary.
With Stallone, the studio took a gamble and reportedly only assigned $1 million for the production mostly because the actor insisted on playing the lead man. While it ended up being highly profitable with a worldwide gross of $225 million, Stallone himself could not recreate the feat with another franchise he created decades later.

Sandra Bullock, the definitive star and America’s certified sweetheart has not only possessed the collective love of the movie fandom since the 1990s but also owned the box office with her unfailing blockbusters (erasing Speed 2: Cruise Control from the history books). However, what makes Bullock most special beyond the screen is her relentless charm and sunshine personality.

In hindsight, the Oscar-winning star has perhaps bewitched most of Hollywood with her undeniable, magnetic on-screen presence. From starring in one of the highest-rated films of all time to being the highest-paid actress in the industry (twice!), there is nothing that can stop Sandra Bullock from dominating Hollywood – on-screen and off.
And so, it isn’t that unbelievable for her to leave even the most influential filmmaker alive shocked by her antics.

Tom Cruise could’ve played gangster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s epic gangster film Goodfellas. Cruise was, at one point, considered for the role that eventually went to Ray Liotta. The Mission: Impossible actor worked with Scorsese in the film, The Color of Money, in 1986. Interestingly, the filmmakers tried to pair Cruise with Madonna in this film.

Liotta constantly campaigned for a role in Goodfellas after reading the source material, Nicholas Pileggi’s novel Wiseguy, when it was released. He managed to win over both Scorsese and producer Irwin Winkler, beating other famous actors in the process. Goodfellas, one of the greatest films in film history, was snubbed at the Oscars in a major way.

The tragic trajectory of the Rocky franchise after it reached its third movie is a troubling sign for where Creed IV could take Adonis story next. Following the blockbuster success of Creed III, Creed IV was quickly put into active development by producer Irwin Winkler. After franchise star Michael B. Jordan made his directorial debut with the threequel, hell be back in the directors chair for the fourth film. But if the Creed series continues to follow the trajectory of the Rocky series, then Creed IV could bring tragedy to Donnies home life.

Sylvester Stallone has become iconic through Rocky, but his stardom in the Hollywood arena would not have been the same without the failed Paradise Alley. Spanning decades, Sylvester Stallone has enjoyed an abundant movie career, accumulating numerous accolades, including Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.
Following years of financial struggles and picking up odd jobs, Stallone achieved worldwide fame with the release of his breakthrough role in the first Rocky movie. It was thanks to Rocky that Stallone was able to go on to star in a long list of other now-popular projects. Multiple Rocky sequels, his Rambo movies, and more, were all born from the fame Stallone earned with his role in the 1976 classic. Interestingly enough, they also owe their success to a Stallone story that received a film adaptation two years later.

Now here’s a real underdog story. Peter Farrelly (“Green Book”) is set to direct a film inspired by the story of how Sylvester Stallone came to make his seminal 1976 boxing film “Rocky.”
The film is titled “I Play Rocky,” and per its official logline, which never names Stallone directly, the film “follows a struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment who writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead.”
The logline continues: “Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role.” The movie becomes the biggest box office hit of 1976, garnering 10 Academy Award nominations and winning Best Picture.

During the TMZ special Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons, Stallone revealed that he tore his pec muscle right off the bone while training with Franco Columbu. Creed 4 is unlikely to feature Stallone due to the direction the franchise is heading. Rocky's absence in Creed III indicates the franchise's shift beyond Stallone's involvement. Stallone's return to the Rocky franchise could revitalize his career and appeal to newer audiences.
Sylvester Stallone's work as Rocky Balboa is arguably his most influential, but the direction Creed 4 is heading in proves a harsh reality about the franchise. Creed 4 is in development, and while it is the follow-up to 2023's acclaimed Creed III, it also brings into question how much the franchise will innovate things going forward. Brearton has been VP Pvs Corporate Strategy, MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television, since November 2022.

Raging Bull is one of the best films in actor Robert De Niro’s career. The 1980 sports-drama film is based on the book Raging Bull: My Story, based on the life of boxer Jake Lamotta. The film was a critical success and won De Niro several accolades. However, the film’s production wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.
Robert De Niro as Jake Lamotta in Raging Bull
Irwin Winkler, who produced the film, has revealed the argument he had with the legendary actor while filming the movie. The argument involved the dramatic physical transformation De Niro had to undergo for the role and how it ultimately impacted the final product for better or worse. Here is what Winkler said about his argument with De Niro while they were working on Raging Bull.

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky franchise made him the star he is today, but it is also his brainchild. As he wrote the captivating story of the first movie of the franchise, he had very little idea of the future of the franchise’s astonishing success.
Sylvester Stallone in Rocky
Stallone, who was a struggling actor at the time, convinced the producers to star himself in the movie, and it made all the difference. However, despite writing several movies in the franchise and being its original creator, the actor had no rights to anything related to the franchise.

Sylvester Stallone paid tribute today to Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and died Thursday at 76.
In an emotional Instagram video post (watch it below), the three-time Oscar nominee recalled his longtime friend in a sometimes-quivering voice: “”My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. … He was magic, and I was fortunate to be part of his life. … Rest in power and keep punching.”
Standing in front of an abstract painting from their Rocky days in the ring, Stallone says in the video: “Hello, everyone. Today is an incredibly sad day for me. … Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life which he says everything about it. I give him incredible credit …. because when he walked into that room, and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t realize how great.

Ivan Drago was Rocky Balboa’s most fearsome foe and Dolph Lundgren’s chilling performance helped turn Rocky IV into a genuine classic. Thirty years later, Drago returned in Creed II, training his son Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu) to face off against Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). Following the positive fan reaction to Lundgren’s return, MGM announced a Drago spinoff movie, but we haven’t heard all that much about it over the last two years.
Our own Tyler Nichols recently spoke with Dolph Lundgren about his upcoming movie, Wanted Man, and couldn’t resist asking if there was any movement on the Drago spinoff movie.
“You know it was really tracking well for a while and there was a script,” Lundgren said. “And then there were comments on the script and then it kind of had to deal with Ukraine and and things like that. But right now,...

I joined Outlier Society as president and became Michael B. Jordan’s producing partner after serving as president of production at Paramount Pictures. When I arrived at Outlier, the Creed III team was already in development on the script from a story by the franchise’s originator, the incomparable Ryan Coogler, to be written by King Richard Oscar nominee Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler, Ryan’s brother. While I was of course excited to support Michael in his directorial debut and produce this film alongside Michael and Ryan, another great joy for me was reuniting with producer Irwin Winkler, with whom I had worked over many years and films in my Paramount days and who won the Oscar for best picture with Rocky.

Michael B. Jordan is directing Creed 4, making it the first movie in the Rocky franchise to have the same director for consecutive films. Jordan's decision to direct Creed 4 elevates his presence in the Rocky franchise, as he joins Sylvester Stallone and John G. Avildsen as one of the few directors to helm multiple films in the series. Creed 4's continuation with Jordan as director is exciting news following the success of Creed 3, which featured a compelling villain and unique fight sequences. Expectations are high for Creed 4 to deliver a great villain and push the boundaries even further.
The latest update for Michael B. Jordan and Creed 4 means the franchise is breaking an eight-year trend. Michael B. Jordan took on an elevated role in regard to the Creed franchise with the third installment. Not only was it the first movie not to include Sylvester Stallone's...

In 1973, producer Irwin Winkler attended the New York Film Festival and decided to check out a new film by a talented young director. Winkler liked what he saw in Martin Scorsese‘s “Mean Streets,” and he was flattered by the fact that Scorsese paid tribute to one of Winkler’s early films by featuring a poster for “Point Blank” at a key moment. “Somebody arranged for Marty and I to have coffee, and we just hit it off,” Winkler told IndieWire. Thus began a producer-director partnership that would yield some of the greatest movies ever made, including “Raging Bull,” “Goodfellas,” and “Silence.”
Winkler would be a legend in the business based on just the movies he made with Scorsese, but they’re the tip of the iceberg. “You look at his credits and it’s astonishing, even if you know him and even if your own films are among them,...

Creed 4 could break a Rocky franchise record if it continues the trend of increasing box office earnings with each film. The popularity of the Creed series continues to grow, as shown by the worldwide earnings of each new outing. While audiences would love to see Sylvester Stallone's Rocky return in Creed 4, the success of the series does not necessarily rely on his presence.
Creed 4 could break a Rocky franchise record if it continues a particular trend. The Rocky movie franchise looked like it had wrapped up with Rocky Balboa. Sylvester Stallone has stated this 2006 sequel is the movie he's the proudest of, as it redeemed the franchise after the lackluster fifth film, and it's the outing that is the most personal to him. Nearly a decade later, the first Creed movie, starring Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, proved there was plenty of life left in the property.

“Creed III” cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau knew Michael B. Jordan had the mind of a filmmaker from their first collaboration together, the 2018 HBO film “Fahrenheit 451.”
“Even back then he had a very strong interest in the camera and cinematography and filmmaking,” Morgenthau tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview.
But after working together as cinematographer and actor on “Creed 2,” the pair took their collaborative relationship to the next level with “Creed III.” The boxing drama was Jordan’s directorial debut, and he enlisted Morgenthau to expand not just on the visual language the director of photography helped establish in “Creed 2” but also the “Rocky” franchise as a whole.

After “Creed III” grossed $275 million at the worldwide box office and established Michael B. Jordan as a formidable director, there was never much real doubt about whether the “Rocky” spin-off series would continue. The biggest question was whether Jordan would return to the director’s chair or use his newfound filmmaking clout to pursue other projects.

Making Creed IV has to be one of the biggest no-brainers in Hollywood. After all, Creed III grossed a robust $156 million domestically, making it the biggest film in the franchise. The gang behind the well-reviewed movie is currently doing the awards circuit, and sure enough, producer Irwin Winkler is teeing up a Creed IV. At a recent Deadline Contenders event, Winkler promised a fourth movie was on the way, saying, “We have a really good story [and] a really good plot. We got a little delayed because of the strikes, but about a year from now we’re going into pre-production.”
Winkler also confirmed that star Michael B. Jordan, who directed Creed III to great acclaim, would return to direct the next film. “He did such a great job — he was comfortable with the camera.” Of course, this isn’t the first time there’s been talk of another Creed movie.

Warner Bros. has a new title and new release date for its upcoming Robert De Niro mob movie. The film previously known as The Wise Guys is now titled Alto Knights. The project from director Barry Levinson also has a new release date of Nov. 15, 2024 (back from Feb. 2, 2024).
The film is one of multiple across Hollywood expected to shift dates amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has shut down production, though insiders say this move is not strike related.
It was the first movies greenlit under the new Warners regime after Warner Bros. Discovery was formed in 2022.
Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci also star in the feature, written by Nicholas Pileggi and produced by Irwin Winkler and Jason Sosnoff. The logline states that it “follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, and how their separate paths to power place them on a deadly collision course.

Burt Young, a former boxer who was in Sylvester Stallone’s corner as his brother-in-law Paulie in the six Rocky films and received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his turn in the original, has died. He was 83.
He died on Oct. 8 in Los Angeles, his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, told The New York Times Wednesday.
A tough guy in real life who usually played tough guys onscreen, Young portrayed a rotten client of gumshoe Jack Nicholson’s in Chinatown (1974), was mobster “Bed Bug” Eddie in The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984) and played Rodney Dangerfield’s protector/chauffeur Lou in Back to School (1986).
Young also appeared in four movies in four straight years with fellow Queens guy James Caan — Cinderella Liberty (1973), The Gambler (1974), The Killer Elite (1975) and Harry and Walter Go to New York (1976) — before they worked together again in Mickey Blue Eyes (1999).

These last few years the Criterion Channel have made October viewing much easier to prioritize, and in the spirit of their ’70s and ’80s horror series we’ve graduated to––you guessed it––”’90s Horror.” A couple of obvious classics stand with cult favorites and more unknown entities (When a Stranger Calls Back and Def By Temptation are new to me). Three more series continue the trend: “Technothrillers” does what it says on the tin, courtesy the likes of eXistenZ and Demonlover; “Art-House Horror” is precisely the kind of place to host Cure, Suspiria, Onibaba; and “Pre-Code Horror” is a black-and-white dream. Phantom of the Paradise, Unfriended, and John Brahm’s The Lodger are added elsewhere.
