Robert De Niro’s “Goodfellas” reunion is now an official Tribeca event.

De Niro, who cofounded the festival and organization with producer Jane Rosenthal, leads the upcoming mob true story “The Alto Knights” in dual roles: De Niro portrays real-life mafia dons Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, with “Goodfellas” screenwriter Nick Pileggi penning the script.

IndieWire can announce that Tribeca members will be the among the first audiences for the feature, which will have its U.S. premiere March 15 as part of the membership program. “The Alto Knights” debuts in theaters March 21.

“The Alto Knights” is more than just a “Goodfellas” reunion for De Niro: he also is back with director Barry Levinson, who he previously collaborated with on the HBO TV movie “The Wizard of Lies” (2017) and the 1997 political satire film “Wag the Dog.” Levinson also produced “The Sopranos” and “The Wire.”

One punch from Dolph Lundgren sent him straight to intensive care. “He pulverized me,” Stallone admitted, and that was putting it lightly. The hit was no stunt. Stallone wanted real punches to make the fight scenes feel authentic.

Lundgren, a legit 4th dan black belt, was happy to oblige. Bad idea. Stallone took a full-force shot to the chest. At first, he brushed it off. Then, reality hit – hard. “I didn’t feel it in the moment, but later that night my heart started to swell,” he said, per the National Post.

His blood pressure skyrocketed to 260. The next thing he knew, he was on a low-altitude emergency flight from Vancouver to California. Doctors didn’t sugarcoat it.

When discussing mob drama The Alto Knights, formerly known as Wiseguys, it is impossible not to think about Martin Scorsese’s seminal gangster film Goodfellas, in which Robert De Niro played the smooth talking Jimmy Conway opposite Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci. The Alto Knights reunites De Niro and screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi for a story that sees De Niro play the dual roles of quarrelling mob bosses.

It’s safe to say we’re rather excited to see this.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for The Alto Knights, starring Academy Award winner Robert De Niro in a dual role. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Levinson, the film is rated R for violence and pervasive language.

The Alto Knights follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello (De Niro) and Vito Genovese (De Niro), as they vie for control of the city’s streets. Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever.

The film was written by Oscar nominee Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas) and produced by Oscar winner Irwin Winkler, Levinson, Jason Sosnoff, Charles Winkler and David Winkler, with Mike Drake executive producing.

Goodfellas screenwriter and Oscar nominee Nicholas Pileggi wrote the script for The Alto Knights, which stars Robert De Niro as Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two Italian Americans who head two New York-based crime families in the mid-20th century. Reports about their reign show that in 1957, Genovese tried to assassinate Costello, resulting in Costello exiting the mob to recover from his injuries and distance himself from “the life.”

In the Alto Knights trailer, Vito Genovese does not approve of how Frank Costello runs his family. Genovese says Costello is fooling himself if he thinks he can present himself as an upstanding citizen while running a shadowy organization behind closed doors.

The tragic trajectory of the Rocky franchise after it reached its third movie is a troubling sign for where Creed IV could take Adonis story next. Following the blockbuster success of Creed III, Creed IV was quickly put into active development by producer Irwin Winkler. After franchise star Michael B. Jordan made his directorial debut with the threequel, hell be back in the directors chair for the fourth film. But if the Creed series continues to follow the trajectory of the Rocky series, then Creed IV could bring tragedy to Donnies home life.

So far, the Creed movies have followed the Rocky movies pretty closely. In the first movie, Donnie proved himself by taking on a formidable opponent. Chris Brearton is exiting Amazon MGM Studios after a long career at MGM to pursue other opportunities, the company announced on Wednesday. Exclusive: Chris Brearton is stepping down from Amazon, 18 months after taking on a new role.

Brearton has been VP Pvs Corporate Strategy, MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television, since November 2022.

Brearton joined MGM as Chief Operating Officer in February 2018. He spent four years in that role before taking on a broader role following Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of the studio in 2022.

After shepherding MGM’s integration into Prime Video and Amazon Studios, Brearton took on the new role, leading business planning and corporate strategy for Prime Video and Studios and also overseeing MGM+ and MGM Alternative.

His new role coincided with Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke taking over leadership of MGM.

Deadline understands that Brearton, who also is chair of the board of directors at USA Swimming, is pursuing a “new opportunity outside of the company”.

Starting April 15, Brearton’s responsibilities will be divided among a number of senior execs.

While audiences would love to see Sylvester Stallone's Rocky return in Creed 4, the success of the series does not necessarily rely on his presence.

Creed 4 could break a Rocky franchise record if it continues a particular trend. The Rocky movie franchise looked like it had wrapped up with Rocky Balboa. Sylvester Stallone has stated this 2006 sequel is the movie he's the proudest of, as it redeemed the franchise after the lackluster fifth film, and it's the outing that is the most personal to him. Nearly a decade later, the first Creed movie, starring Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, proved there was plenty of life left in the property.

“Creed III” cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau knew Michael B. Jordan had the mind of a filmmaker from their first collaboration together, the 2018 HBO film “Fahrenheit 451.”

“Even back then he had a very strong interest in the camera and cinematography and filmmaking,” Morgenthau tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview.

But after working together as cinematographer and actor on “Creed 2,” the pair took their collaborative relationship to the next level with “Creed III.” The boxing drama was Jordan’s directorial debut, and he enlisted Morgenthau to expand not just on the visual language the director of photography helped establish in “Creed 2” but also the “Rocky” franchise as a whole.

“That was the challenge,” Morgenthau says. “Here is a franchise that is almost 50 years old. It’s a genre, or sub-genre [in terms of a boxing film], that everybody has seen before.
