The Television Academy today revealed its 2025-26 Board of Governors, who will begin serving their two-year terms on New Year’s Day. The organization notes that this is its most inclusive board ever.

Here’s a list of the 13 newly elected governors, and their fields, who will serve their first two-year term: Kevin Blank (Special Visual Effects), John Boyd, Allison Dorenbosch (Children’s Programming), Megan Galizia (Television Executives), Trayce Gigi Field (Costume Design & Supervision), Phil Gurin (Producers), Shana Hagan (Cinematographers), Siddhartha Khosla (Music), Vicki Lemar (Sound), Joseph Litzinger (Reality Programming), Angela Moos (Makeup Artist/Hairstylists), Sean Presant (Writers) and Megan Sleeper (Casting Directors).

Proving a book sometimes can be judged by its cover, Matt Ruff’s fantasy-horror novel “Lovecraft Country” left quite an impression on Kalina Ivanov, even before the production designer considered working on showrunner Misha Green’s HBO adaptation.

“I really chased this project,” said Ivanov in an interview with IndieWire. “I had read the book in 2017 and was quite taken with it, [even] the front cover graphics. It’s a really well-thought-out book. When I heard it was coming together for HBO, I pestered my agent and said, ‘We gotta go for this.'”

That pestering paid off, as Ivanov would land the challenging project by showing how it needed to go far beyond designing a single look for the series as whole. It’s truly a measure of the pandemic that the 19th annual Ves Awards (to be held virtually on April 6) was dominated by Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” with 13 nominations (topped by photoreal episode). Like the Oscar shortlist, there was an absence of big budget, VFX-intensive studio films. But, truth be told, Season 2 of Jon Favreau’s engaging “Star Wars” bounty hunter series offered the industry’s most innovative tech (wrapped around Industrial Light & Magic’s improved StageCraft virtual production system).

Pixar’s “Soul” was the top animation contender with five nominations, while the feature competition was split between “Project Power,” the Netflix superhero film, Robert Zemeckis’ “The Witches” (which streamed on HBO Max), and Disney’s live-action “Mulan” (which streamed on Disney+), each garnering three nominations.

“The Mandalorian” leads with 13 nominations including outstanding visual effects in a photoreal episode. “Soul” was next with five nominations, followed by “The Witches” and “Project Power.”

The Ves awards will be handed out in a virtual ceremony and will stream worldwide on April 6.

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.

First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

Rango, the animated film starring Johnny Depp as a fibbing lizard charged with saving a wild West town, won four trophies at the 10th annual Visual Effects Society Awards last night in Beverly Hills. The CG adventure won for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

The 10th annual Visual Effects Society Awards were handed out last night, with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Hugo and Rango picking up the top awards in their respective feature categories. Unlike the broad award category at the Oscars, I always like how in-depth they are here. Below you will find awards for specific CG models, environments, compositing and more.

The biggest oversight comes with The Tree of Life, a film I thought blew away anything I’d seen all year in terms of cohesive, jaw-dropping effects. They did give Douglas Trumbull the Georges Méliès award, but Terrence Malick‘s film certainly deserved more. Nonetheless, if you are looking for the best in blockbusters, it is a good round-up. hollywoodnews.com: The Ves announced the winners of the 10th Annual Ves Awards Tuesday evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Gore Verbinski’s Oscar-nominated “Rango” was the night’s biggest winner, collecting four awards including Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

“Hugo,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” all took home two awards in the Feature Motion Picture categories. The annual event recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games.

The Visual Effects Society (Ves) has weighed in with their 2012 awards and Paramount cleaned house beginning with their animated feature Rango which took home four awards followed by Hugo and Transformers: Dark of the Moon with two each. 20th Century Fox and their Oscar-frontrunner for the Visual Effects Award, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, also took home two. This is a nice bit of notoriety for Rango, which is largely considered the best seen animated movie from 2011, though not many have seen fellow animated Oscar nominees A Cat in Paris and Chico & Rita, the latter of which I will actually be seeing this Friday. Rango, however, was not nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars while the other three films I mentioned above are along with fellow nominees Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Real Steel. The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.

There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts? hollywoodnews.com: Over the weekend, the Visual Effects Society announced the nominees for its 10th Annual Ves Awards ceremony, recognizing summer tentpoles (“Harry Potter,” “Captain America”) and surprise hits (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Hugo”) for their outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games.

“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”

This panel was scheduled for long enough to allow us to see the entire pilot, though there was very little time for questions afterwards. That’s ok, We Saw The Pilot – Squee! More about that after the trailer below.

Also, though I took some photos of the panelists (Executive Producers Brannon Braga, Rene Echevarria, and Jose Molina, visual effects supervisor Kevin Blank, and star Stephen Lang), it was one of those situations where I would be doing no one any favors by posting them. You know, like when you pause your tv and gorgeous people look goofy? Eyes mid-blink, or neck tucked in making one look a bit Jabba the Hut-ish? Happily, Fox Broadcasting has uploaded some video that includes many of my favorite bits from the panel, and you’ll get to see what the panelists look like without the horrible pics:

My first panel of the day was for Steven Spielberg's long awaited sci-fi series Terra Nova, which stars Jason O'Mara and Stephen Lang. The only star among the panel was Lang along with producers Rene Echevarria, Brandon Braga, Kevin Blank and Jose Molina. Unlike many panels, we were treated to the entire first half of the pilot episode. Unfortunately, producer Steven Spielberg was not on hand to talk about the show, but his imprint was evident in the pilot episode.

All I can say is that everything about this show, from the pracitcal sets to the CGI, is Epic. The dinosaurs are amazing, the CGI looks as though a lot of time and money was spent in their creation. The Australian locations look simply beautiful and I can not wait to see more of it. This is going to be one heck of a cool show to watch on a weekly basis.

James Cameron's "Avatar" led the list of nominations announced Monday by the Visual Effects Society, scooping up 11.

The animated "Coraline," another movie released in 3D, followed with four nominations.

New Zealand-based Weta Digital, which worked on "Avatar," led the company noms with nine.

For visual effects in an effects-driven motion picture feature, the nominees are "2012," "Avatar," "District 9," "Star Trek" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

Noms for supporting visual effects in a movie went to "Angels & Demons," "The Box," "Invictus," "The Road" and "Sherlock Holmes."

  "9," "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," "Coraline," "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and "Up" were nominated for outstanding animation in an animated feature.

Ves noms in 20 categories, covering film, animation, TV, commercials and video games were chosen Saturday by blue-ribbon panels of Ves members, meeting in Burbank, San Francisco and London.

The eighth annual Ves Awards will be handed out on Feb.

From working FX on SNL and Letterman to creating monsters for Dark Shadows, Andrew Clement has some tales to tell. Recently-wrapped on the reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street (for which he redesigned Freddy Krueger), Jason Anders caught up with Clement for a candid conversation about his world of Creative Character Engineering.

Ja/Fangoria: So let's begin with your work as a make-up artist for NBC's Saturday Night Live; tell me about the work you did for the show, how you became involved, the memories you have being around the cast of actors, and which seasons you were involved in.

AC: I wish I had been involved in the first few seasons of SNL, it was such a fertile time for the show. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I’m not quite that old. As it is, I watched those shows in Jr. High and High School, and now I have the DVD’s.

Despite being nominated for Best Drama and having its star Anna Paquin win Best Actress in a TV Drama at this year's Golden Globes, "True Blood" was shut out of the major categories for the 2009 Emmy Awards, which announced its nominees earlier today. But that's not to say it, and a few other genre-related shows, won't be showing up at the party.
