Why do crime caper films have so much appeal? Are we all closet criminals, eager to watch less timid souls risk life and limb to get the big payout and live happily ever after? Peter Yates’ stylish re-telling of England’s Great Train Robbery makes for an excitingly detailed, nonsense-free heist straight from real life, with a just-the-facts clarity. The show begins with an influential car chase — straight through the heart of London.

Citizen Gangster, Nathan Morlando’s gripping directorial debut, is inspired by the true story of notorious Canadian bank robber and gang leader Eddie Boyd. After serving in World War II, Boyd finds himself at home in Toronto with a growing family and no real prospects. There are few jobs, and Boyd is both a dreamer and impulsive—a dangerous combination....

Looking to capitalize on Jennifer Lawrence's spiking fame, Relativity has released a trailer for House at the End of the Street. The low-budget horror film uses the familiar plot line of a divorced mother and her daughter who find a house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But then inexplicable events start to happen… House arrives in theaters September 21 and should probably make back its $7 million budget in one weekend. Based on a real World War II veteran and family man turned bank robber, Scott Speedman stars as Eddie Boyd in Citizen Gangster. Disillusioned by his post war circumstances and torn between a need to provide for his young family and an unfulfilled dream to become a Hollywood star, he discovers a way to do both by robbing...

If you were disappointed that Scott Speedman took a flyer on the last “Underworld” movie, you’re probably not the only one. So what has the former lycan/vampire hybrid been doing with his time now that he isn’t battling alongside Kate Beckinsale? Starring in a true-life gangster movie about a bank robber in Canada post-wwii, apparently. Check out the trailer, poster, and some images for Scott Speedman’s “Citizen Gangster”. It sure has a great cast, including the always great Brian Cox and Kevin Durand, who is always shamefully underrated in my opinion. Based on a real WWII vet and family man turned bank robber. Disillusioned by his post war circumstances, Eddie Boyd is torn between the need to provide for his young family and an unfulfilled dream to head to Hollywood to become a star. He discovers a way to do both, robbing banks Hollywood style, but...

There's a little interesting piece of Canadian history that's about to become a lot more familiar to movie goers. It's the true story of Edwin Boyd, a WWII vet and family man turned bank robber. The idea of first-time feature film-maker Nathan Morlando, Canadian Eddie Boyd's life is depicted from his post-war years on, chronicling his notoriety and almost hero-like status to his eventual downfall.
Nathan spent time getting to know the real Edwin Boyd before his passing in 2002, and always had an interest in the Canuck legend. Scott Speedman plays the titular role, while Kevin Durand plays Boyd Gang member Lenny Jackson.
Cineplex sat down with all three as the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Find out what they had to say after the jump!
