Warner Bros. and HBO Max have released the first trailer for “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the sequel to the blockbuster 1996 comedy that featured NBA superstars alongside Looney Tunes characters. Stepping into Michael Jordan’s kicks this time around is LeBron James, who spearheaded the title’s return under his production company SpringHill Entertainment. Though he played a comedic role in Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck,” “Space Jam 2” marks his first foray into leading man territory, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself in the live-action/animated sports comedy.
“Girls Trip” director Malcolm D. Lee is helming the production after taking over from “Random Acts of Flyness” creator Terence Nance. The departure was said to be “amicable,” with both parties citing creative differences. While Lee is perhaps the more obvious choice, having proven himself a shrewd helmer of blockbuster comedies, Nance’s surrealist, stream-of-consciousness style could have added a...

Without live sports, one of the best alternatives around is to plop down and watch a sports film. Whether you’ve seen it before or are taking it in for the first time, there’s no shortage of options available on streaming platforms.
But let’s be honest: Plenty of sports movies are just plain terrible. You’re more likely to pick a lame one at random on Netflix than to score a winner.
Den of Geek is here to help, with a lineup of quality sports dramas and comedies — both based on fact and completely fantastic — available on Netflix (in the U.S.) that are bound to make your next streaming session a win.
Raging Bull (1980)
Arguably the greatest work of Martin Scorsese’s legendary directorial career, Raging Bull is as must-watch as it gets for film buffs and fans of sports movies alike. The biopic of former world middleweight boxing champion Jake Lamotta,...

You can officially stop calling it “Space Jam 2.” In an Instagram post Thursday, LeBron James revealed the title for the sequel to the Looney Tunes-Meets-Basketball film along with the film’s logo.
The sequel is now titled “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” and the film’s release date is still set for 2021.
The 1996 original film starred Michael Jordan playing basketball alongside Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” updates the premise with LeBron James leading the cast, and major current NBA stars are expected to make cameos. It also stars Don Cheadle.

Bill Skarsgård did a fantastic job of terrifying children in both of the It films as Pennywise. His chilling performance resulted in many members of the audience having to sleep with the lights on after witnessing his portrayal of the infamous Stephen King character. But now it seems as if his next appearance will be making folks laugh instead of cry, as the horrific clown is set to show up in the hugely anticipated Space Jam 2.
In the 90s, Michael Jordan was one of the biggest names in sports, and the Looney Tunes were a powerhouse in the world of cartoons, so naturally, the two would pair for a film that would be a massive success. Just as “Space Jam” didn’t star Michael Jordan by himself, neither can “Space Jam 2” focus exclusively on LeBron James. Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues all had their talents stolen by the Monstars, too, and so fans have been waiting to hear who will round out the starting five of this long-awaited sequel. FiveThirtyEight has thrown its hat into the ring, attempting to help LeBron and the filmmakers by using math to cast the rest of the film.

A lot of fans are excited about Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2, but apparently a lot of the NBA athletes aren’t. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Lebron James, who will star in and produce the movie, is having trouble recruiting players to be in the movie. He’s been making an effort, but only a few players have signed on.
Windhorst explained:
"In all honesty, he's been recruiting players to come and try to be in Space Jam with him this summer and he hasn't been able to close some of those deals. He's recruiting for his movie as well as he is for the Lakers."
When asked which NBA players James has been trying to get on board the film Windhorst said, "I'm not going to say right now but let's just say it's the top players."
It would make sense to get all of the top...

LeBron James' performance in Trainwreck, Judd Apatow's new comedy starring Amy Schumer, was far and away my favorite aspect of the film, even if James was only playing an enhanced version of himself. At 6-foot-8 he is a natural physical presence, and the guy has a lot of charisma, oodles of charm and an impressive knack for comedy. As mixed as I am on LeBron the basketball player, I am definitely on board with LeBron the actor. Much to my delight -- as well as the delight of others who liked his performance and all the true LeBron fans out there -- we could very well be seeing King James on screen again soon. According to Espn, LeBron's SpringHill Entertainment just inked a deal with Warner Bros. that includes plans for future films, television series and original digital programming. Warner Bros. Looney Tunes icon Chuck Jones hated it, kids loved it, and the rest of the world didn’t know what to make of it. We’re talking about Joe Pytka’s 1996 film Space Jam, of course. At the height of his popularity, basketball star Michael Jordan appeared in the movie as a mentor/captive to a slew of animated Looney Tunes characters as they planned a round of ball against a group of alien slavers. Yes, we’re talking about that movie — the one in which Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Charles Barkley, Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley were all turned into giant basketball-playing “Monstars.” Everyone needs a paycheck sometimes, we suppose. Last month, a group of actors and all-star ballers got together to perform a live read of Space...

After 18 years Space Jam is actually going to get a sequel. This time around it will star NBA superstar Labron James. Space Jam was released in 1996 and it starred Michael Jordan and a few other NBA players such as Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Danny Ainge, Tyron “Muggsy” Bogues, Vlade Divac, Cedric Ceballos, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Paul West acting along side Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang.
The first Space Jam movie made over $230 million, and I'm surprised they didn't make a sequel sooner. Space Jam was kind of a terrible film, but I can't deny that it was a ton of fun to watch. Like several others, I was a huge fan of basketball and the Looney Tunes growing up so of course it was exciting to see these two worlds collide.

Space Jam 2 is in the works, with the NBA's LeBron James in line to star.
Warner Bros. is developing a screenplay for the project with the production firm of brothers Charlie and Willie Ebersol, The Company, according to Deadline.
The original movie was released 18 years ago and starred Michael Jordan alongside characters from the Looney Tunes universe. Bill Murray, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues also appeared.
The sequel has been rumoured to feature James, who currently plays for the Miami Heat.
Charlie Ebersol, whose sports series NFL Characters Unite airs on USA Network, will produce, while Willie will write the screenplay. Willie previously won an Emmy for the London Olympics.

Needless to say, the squad went on to win the Gold Medal that year, supplanting their place in playground lore. However, for the Movie Olympics, rest assured that those types of blowouts will not be happening. That's because this year's basketball event has a very strong group of competitors going head-to-head for "Best Team In The Land" bragging rights.
